- played on Visualboy Advance 1.7.2 w/rerecording (i suppose the newest one Nitsuja has released)
- prog errors - enemy manipulation (you'll see this a lot); exploiting horrible AI
- no warps or passwords used
- damage taken to save time; no deaths
- plays on hardest difficulty with NO RADAR and auto text scrolling (to end movie asap)
- Aims for Big Boss Rank (which i have no idea how to describe because it may or may not be the same as the PSX port... i never found anything much on it online, sorry). the basics are to literally never get spotted, never kill anyone, never continue, never use more than 1 ration, and to complete the game quickly.
- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel - in the year 2002, Solid Snake is brought out of solitude in order to stop the resurrection of a new Metal Gear.
this game is not a part of the official timeline, and never mentions MG2; it instead acts as an alternate reality sequel to MG (MSX version since it actually HAD a Metal Gear).
- movie making was quite easy because this version DID NOT desync. thank you very much for this BTW nitsuja. it was also quite easy because i have played this game through a lot. the hardest part was plotting what i would need to use where and how much would be too much of something. i tried to end with as little excess weaponry and items as possible. the only real problem came when i would stop on a later level for a night and come back to it the next day. it just took a while to remember where i was.
there are a few boring parts ill admit: the cardboard box conveyor belts in level 5; the vents in levels 8 & 9; the 50 floor elevator rides in level 11.
however, i do very well on all boss battles (Gander and the Hind D were he only problems; the Hind will stop blinking briefly from time to time because i couldn't get to it faster) and complete every level with an Excellent rank.
some pointers before you ask:
- i do get caught once, but i have NEVER found a way around that. it also doesnt take away from my rank in that level at all (i suppose they planned this part?). and going around would still get me caught by the Camera (not to mention it isnt worth the time that is wasted)
- level 4's maze puzzle (doors) is always random (random per game; as i had to redo that part and found the same pattern worked)
- in level 8, i dawdle a bit after each Nikita fired. this is because the elevators are not working and guards are out looking for you (AND THEY KNOW WHERE YOU ARE). staying still after the first one and switching screens resets the guards position
- level 9's placement of where i can detonate c4's is ALWAYS different (much like level 4's door puzzle)
- level 11's 2 elevator rides... the first 50 was an attempt at break-dancing; the second time was a bunch of push-ups and then the Konami code d-pad punched out... just for clarification. and while this is not necessary, it is one long and tedious elevator ride. and unlike the vents, i can actually get the chance to entertain the viewer. :)
- Gander's second form is a randomized pain. it seemed to change the outcome from frame to frame.
highlights (for me):
- almost any encounter with the basic grunt
- taking damage in the Flood in level 3 sewers
- sneaking through level 3 tower
- handling the extreme east and west fields before Slasher Hawk in level 4
- Marionette Owl's last shot stop right in front of me as he falls down and dies (level 6)
- level 8's Nikita handling
- stopping the behemoth Pyro Bison almost dead in tracks for a bit
- using a glitch at the end of level 9 to take damage on fire and fall forward saving me a few seconds.
- the fact that the Hind D NEVER went into its alternate attack patterns
- Gander's second form never called on those POT SHOT Cyphers
- in the final battle with Viper, the simple manipulation with him and corner shots
lastly, much like mookish said about his FF1 run, there will be some who watch this and find it boring. im sorry... i did everything i could but some parts are just very tedious and boring.
adelikat: Rejecting.
While any one section of this game by itself is entertaining, as a whole this movie is very repetitive and eventually boring. Game length is also a problem. While there are RPG's whis long (and longer). They are extremely short compared to what a theorical "speed run" would be (most of those game would take many days on a console). This element contributed to the entertainment value of the movie.
