Game objectives

  • Emulator used: BizHawk 2.9.1
  • Heavy luck manipulation
Note: I ended the input by opening the main menu showing the Limitation Tournaments were beaten, it may be better to end it sooner depending on what is considered as reaching the ending

About the game

Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition: Stairway to the Destined Duel, released in 2003, is based on the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga and anime franchise, and is the international release of the Japanese exclusive Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6 Expert 2.
There are some minor differences between the two versions, most notably a few cards were removed to match the real life cards released outside of Japan at the time.

Comments

Basic Yu-Gi-Oh rules

Cards are divided into 3 categories: monster cards, spell cards (called magic cards in the early years of the game) and trap cards
You win a duel by reducing your opponent's Life Points (LP) to 0. A few alternative victory conditions are possible in this game:
  • Decking out the opponent
  • Having all 5 pieces of Exodia in hand
  • Putting all 5 Destiny Board cards on the field
You can normal summon a monster once per turn, anything else can be done without any restriction as long as you meet the card's requirement.

Goal choice

The game doesn't have a proper ending leading to the credits, completing all the Limitation tournaments is the closest thing there is to "beating the game". To unlock the Limitation tournaments, you must first complete the Ghouls' Hideout event. To unlock it, you must defeat all 5 Ghouls without losing once. The current RTA WR for this category is 1:44:22

Run comments

You can chose between 6 different starting decks, they each have 35 cards in common and 5 unique (and powerful) ones :
  • 5 Exodia pieces
  • 5 strong or utility monster cards
  • 5 offensive trap cards
  • 5 defensive trap cards
  • 5 offensive magic cards
  • 5 defensive magic cards
Refer to my Youtube encode subtitles for my comments about this TAS

Possible improvements

  • Getting the Exodia starting deck was an option i considered, that would probably make the Ghoul fights faster but the Ghouls' Hideout event slower. The starting deck with 5 defensive magic cards was also an option for more consistent starting hands, but having to get Bell of Destruction from a glitch card would probably be an issue
  • I am not sure whether or not opponents placement on the map can be manipulated, but if so then I would be able to save some time be not spending extra days in the Limitation tournaments section

Special thanks

  • Olivier2Carglass for his RTA WR as a reference
  • KusogeMan for suggesting this game

eien86: As far as I can tell, this movie achieves the stated goal much faster than the current RTA WR by heavily manipulating the outcome of matches and deck building. Since the goal does not lead to a proper end-of-game scene, though I'm not sure one exists, there is more to the game to be considered for a baseline completion. Instead, this can be considered the fastest completion of an adequately categorized subset of the game.
