I took a look now.
- It seems, especially in the downward vertical levels, that you can jump before the end of the platforms, to fall down faster. You miss doing this in several places.
- In the ice levels, does it help to jump when you start? You accelerate slowly on the ground.
- Does it help to duck next to the goal to reach it faster?
- The twitching is annoying. As hell.
I know the answer to q3. It does help to duck to reach the goal faster.
Crawling speed is equal to walking speed it seems. And the head reaches further than the feets. So by ducking you gain several frames. :)
Uh oh!! Damn! =O
And I thought it didn't matter if you walked or ducked, when you are going to
reach a goal! =/
I'm not good to use Ram addresses, so I use a framecounter to see the
fastest route, and what I could see it wasn't a difference what so ever...
But I belive ya, but why, oh why, do I get this information NOW? :P
If I'm doing an improvement of this TAS AFTER this run, I will have a
partner (if I can catch one on this site) cause I don't have the power to fix
a NEW TAS by myself where I fix the things Truncated was dissatisfied
about, cause there's probably more people which has the same opinions!
You truly are! :P
Edit: Bah! Who cares? So what? I have not gone crazy for nothing! The
minor flaws gets covered by all the positive moments and fantastic stunts
in this movie! But if I am planning to do a new movie then I will fix the
negative things as well! ;)
Sorry I didn't mention this earlier... I thought Highness would have noticed a mistake like that.
The movie was good otherwise, I especially liked using the enemies for platforms.
No, no! None of you have to apologize! :P
In fact I feel stupid, and I should have figured that out myself! I don't
know if it just me, or an illusion, but it looked like Toki was pulling his body
back as you duck! So it looked like it didn't matter if you walked or
crawled! I'm not mad at you guys, I don't
care cause, the movie is not perfect anyway as far as I'm concerned! =/
But if you find out timesavers- please let me now! :)
I can have a big usage of that info for the next TAS! =)
Thanks Truncated! And why not Highness? I would love teamwork to
master this almost impossible game!! =)
Edit: I discovered that you mentioned the crawling in your submission your
Highness! Bah! Why didn't I discover that earlier??! =(
It wasn't your fault at all!
Well, well!.. The good news at least, is that the movie is finally done!
http://tasvideos.org/1350S.html
Edit: I did cancel the submission. First I thought it was dumb to cancel it,
but then I thought it might be pointless to try to get my submission
accepted, when we want to do a new TAS! =/
Yes AngerFist, but what I meant with that was, when I was done with Toki!...
All done!.. But screw that! I don't want any disappointments or
missunderstandings here, so I will actually have two projects going on! This
and Final fight 3! My two other projects (rockin' kats and super C) can wait! =)
Diman, I don't know how we should divide the work. But we really have to analyze the game ALOT. Also we should look up all the good RAM-addresses and keep track of them when needed.
We really need all the boss addresses so we know when to fire at them to be most efficent etc.
Also a thing at the sub-marine boss, I think one can kill the captain that escapes to exit the level quicker. I have not yet tried this. But it should be an easy test to figure out.
I will need to finish my other TAS first before delving into this game again. So it might take some time. So I think you could lay your energy on another game mean while.
I decided to analyze the movie today.
Some of these statements are just to be picky, while others might open new ways for quicker finishing a level. Alot of testing must be done further to improve levels at all costs.
No missed shots should be a rule too.
Ok. So here is the analysis level by level.
Some of them doesn't say anything more or less.
The frames provided for the levels is the first frame that fades to black.
---------
Level 1-1
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
2317 exits level.
Level 1-2
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
4375 exits
Level 1-3
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
8903 exits
Boss - Stark's machine:
9931 Last hit
Level 2-1
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
12379 exits
Level 2-2
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
Perhaps not kill the flying white devil and use him to reach higher grounds quicker?
Same goes for the flying fishes.
14547 exits level
Level 2-3
Should be ducking to reach exit sooner.
Don't kill the flying white devils and use them to reach higher grounds quicker.
16833 exits level
Boss - Primeval:
17010 last hit
Level 3-1
18845 exits level
Level 3-2
Is it possible to rise upwards quicker in the beginning and fire away the wall to the shortcut?
20597 exits level
Level 3-3
Is it possible to swim backwards in order not to slow down and still evade/kill the fishes?
23615 exits level
Boss - boomer:
Is it possible to kill the captain in order to exit level quicker?
23879 last hit
Level 4-1
26611 exits level
Level 4-2
29403 exits level
Level 4-3
31843 exits level
Boss - Eyesore:
Perhaps wait with the last shot as Toki elevates faster in order to kill boss a few frames faster?
32211 last hit.
Level 5-1
33421 exits level
Level 5-2
Avoid using moving platforms in the wrong direction as this will slow toki down.
37867 exits level
Level 5-3
Better manipulation of fire in order to get cross gaps in a better manner?
41377 exits level
Boss - Belcher:
Better strategy to do more damage at the same time?
41936 last hit.
Level 6-1
Duck to hit exit faster.
Possible weapon drop to blast the wall and create an enormous shortcut?
46915 exits level
Level 6-2
Possible to jump over the spike with help from the blue devil?
48339 exits level (why turning around? it's not that cool. :D)
Level 6-3
51243 exits level. Again, turning around is not very useful and not stylish enough to be used.
Perhaps usage of the flying white devils can help in gaining a couple of frames?
Ducking should be used in this level too to exit the level.
Boss - Crystal mammoth:
This battle is just amazing. Let's keep it that way. :D
Level 7-1
55299 exits level.
Perhaps we should investigate to see if the jump-shoes must be used in order to reach the shortcut.
There is a posibility that the white devils can do the work and save all the tracking for the shoes.
Level 7-2
Better breakage of the floor near the exit.
59013 exits level
Level 7-3
There is chance that more fishes can be manipulated in a manner so that higher grounds can be reached faster.
61525 exits level. Ducking perhaps?
Boss - Bashtar:
62792 last hit, feels like it could be done quicker somehow, but I'm not sure.
Level 8-1
Ducking
63895 exits level.
Level 8-2
While walking through the slime, is it possible to jump a bit so that the corner stones knocks Toki out of the goo, sort of wall-omitting-style?
It looks like it's done for the first part.
68863 exits level
Level 8-3
Looks good and clean. Finaly ducking into the exit! :D
71775 exits the level
Boss - Stark
Getting in closer to deal damage quicker?
74039 last hit.
Level 9-1
Possible to get pass the falling spike before the walkman reaches you?
77379 exits level.
Level 9-2
Jump of the last skateboard to reach the exit earlier.
79833 exits level.
Level 9-3
Get's stalled very long for that walkman guy at the falling spikes. Not good.
85887 exits level
Boss - Stark again.
Missing alot of shots is not nice.
88146 last hit.
Boss - Membrane
Erm... What happend with your spirit in this battle?
It's way out of the league. A billion missed shots, and the strategy is not top of the line.
I don't think I tried to do a weapon pickup in my version. But we should investigate further if it is a real time saver.
This battle did not keep the same quality as the rest of the run. I think this alone would kept me from voting yes.
The coolest thing in this battle is where the last hit is dealt and toki evades death for the last time. :)
90844 Last hit.
No entering the hi-score board? Not needed but always fun. :D
All in all the run was great. Just some minor flaws here and there. Now it's time for us to do some more work and shape this baby up to it's true potential.
Cheers!
Nice review of the game my friend! Something tells me that this is going to be terrific! ;)
Yes, now when I'm aware of the ducking thing, I always will use that
technique to reach the exits faster! And it sounds wise to not miss any
shots either, it looks much, much better that way! Why did I miss shots in
my run in the end? Cause I did loose it! I did become bitter in other words!
I was sad cause I couldn't kill the last boss, like the good way you did!
So now, when we divide the work somehow, I suggest YOU kill
Membrane, so it looks nice! ;P
I have started to make a run! It's not long cause I want your help (if you
have any ideas how I can handle the situation). What situation am I talking
about then? Well, first everything goes right.. I don't have to stop for any
enemies so far... But THEN (before frame 1876) two spears attack me,
and I was wondering, if you had any ideas on how I could manipulate this,
so I don't have to stop for them... Maybe it isn't possible, but before I
continue with the run, I want some feedback from you! ;)
How about we take every other (varannan), stage?
Things you must know, very important info:
* Still use Toki - Going Ape Spit (UE) [c][!].bin rom.
* Recorded our TAS, in gens_movie_9Z.
Cheers! =)
The run:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/rfdd4d
I will check it out tomorrow I think. Sooo tired right now. :)
Glad you liked the analysis.
If you like you can contact me on MSN or ICQ.
It's always good to keep closer contact for quicker communication.
Ok! I can add you in my msn address. The address is
Majsuggla_@hotmail.com (so you know who is adding ya address (I know the
name of the address is crazy! :P). That's ok.
You can check it out some other time! ;)
Yes, I liked the analysis! And I have good news!! ;)
Remember when you told me that the game is a bitch when it comes to
hexediting? Well, I have learn how to master one hexediting-program so we
can actually get rid of mistakes we do in the movie! =D
It did work fine for me at least. The program I have knowledge in is EME (Emulator movie editor) v1.
Strange. I tried both EME and the other one which my brother made without good results.
If it works it's superb however since we can do level by level and paste them into the final product perhaps, if needed that is.
Edit:
I looked up the RAM-address for the bosses.
Add "00FF3601" to your RAM-watch. It's for all the bosses. Very useful when it comes to checking hits out.
This is however very tricky against the first boss, since it won't register the hits until it's actually starting to move.
Ok. Fun that I discovered a way to handle the program then! =)
And some other good news is that I have figured out a way how I can look
out for the two spears, which is very aggressive if you don't manipulate
them very well!... I will wait with a new post of a WIP cause, I don't want
to post short WIP's all of the time... Is better that I try to play longer OR
even finish stages!...
I like the idea about take every other stage... Do you think it sound
nice? Do you want to play the bosses maybe and I finish the rest of the
stages? Do you want to play much or little? These
are important questions that needs answers.. But you don't have to rush
with any answer! Take your time!.. Of course, we can improvise if
you suddenly want to play or know a faster route you want to show!..
Edit: I will log in at msn tommorow after the gymnasium. Maybe we can
have a talk there about the game! My msn is a little wicked so maybe I
won't come in! If I'm not there about 15:00 log in at time 19:00 instead
please! =)
And my nickname is "Diman" there also!
Bravo! Nice perusal again!! You truly deserve the nickname "Highness"
cause you truly are the king, your majesty! ;)
I will add that to my RAM-watch! Thanks! =)
Take care!
Feel free to post WIPs if you want some feedback. For hexediting, you can try out Maximus new program, TAS movie splicer. It is able to handle GMV movies, both for copypasting and editing the buttons on range of frames. It's linked from the Downloads page, or in the General forum.
Majsuggla? Okay, so it's not like I have the most normal nickname, but ...
Ok, thanks for the advice, Truncated! I haven't learn how to use TAS movie
splicer yet but I will practise every day to figure it out! Maybe you understand
it better, Highness?
Oops! Sorry, I didn't know that you worked so late! Ok we can discuss
tommorow then!
Hello y'all!
It's been months since someone have written something in this topic!
Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't a half year at least gone by?
Well well, I don't know, but anyway here is a WIP!
The reason why I haven't been working on our (mine and Highness) TAS is
because I need tips on stage 1-2 how to pass the first spike (or what you
wanna call it), and Highness is very busy, so he doesn't always have time
to talk with me 'bout our project, so, therefore I have been taking a rest
from TASing for a while... But now I'm back on track, ready to take this
project more serious even though I can't expect to always get help from
my TAS-partner! That's what forums for right? I didn't thought of that
(dumb as I were) until I this evening saw a mail from a someone which
wondered what happened to mine and Highness TASing project.
Like I wrote I need help with the first spike at stage 1-2, so if anyone can
give me an explanation, I would be grateful. I would love to see pics on
how to fix that, but feel also free to use WIP's on how you can deal with
that problem.
That's it! For NOW!
