The Resident Evil games are kinda slow-paced. I downloaded the speed run for the Gamecube version and just couldn't watch it all. Just too boring.

As said, it could be cool if done right. For example, using only knife. Both challenging and fast. With regular guns and whatnot they could be kinda boring to watch.

Hey Kilu, I just realized that's Wesker in your avatar. That's funny to me. I would watch a Resident Evil time attack. How long would it take?

sorry if this isn't much, but once I finish my speedrunning (in the original) I may decide to put the run online. could take a month or more.

if there was a non-puzzle version of the game, it would be interesting. then again, that just leaves a lot of running and the occasional shot fired. if anything RE2 would be the most entertaining. going in with the rocket launcher would be entertaining enough, but the second character has the added affect of being hunted by that robotic dude from umbrella corp.

The best avatar ever, from the best video game opening movie ever :) I would be more than happy to see original REs speedrun. But that might be just because I'm a damn RE freak :)

I am going to attempt this game here in the next couple of weeks. It should be quite interesting. Bring back some memories. Need to plan the route 1st. Find glitches, shortcuts....etc....First thing is first.. I need to find out how to use and get the emulator working.
Change my sig. again, and I will murder your pet fish.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/ResidentEvil.html Check those runs first. Perhaps you can get something out of it?

Oh, yeah... really brings back some memories... remarkable interpretation... It's not just a poisonous snake... it's a MONSTER!

I'll be working on the Resident Evil : Director's Cut (not the Dual Shock Ver.) I have spoken yesterday with someone of great knowledge about the run and the route is ready, item management is ready and the run is started. here's the plan for those of you who knows a bit about RE. Get Bazooka 2 Rounds in 2F Dinning Room Handgun, First Aid Spray (Box Visit)(Serum Room) Knife Cancel Zombie near Brad Blow-up Zombie guarding Tiger statue? (or Knife Cancel?) Knife Cancel Zombie Guarding Manor's Exit 1 Round in Dorm 3 rounds for Plant 42 (Reload) Escape Hunter's attack on 2nd Floor 4 Acids round Yawn Possible to Avoid Laying Zombie Guarding Elevator Possible to Avoid Zombie Elevator (2F) (or KnifeCancel/Blow) Get Grenades rounds Either Shoot Black Tiger's Door or Knife/Acid Technique 2nd Book Room (Equip Rocket/Open Doom1) (if Knife/Acid used) Blow up Zombie guarding Control Room 3 Round Tyrant (Pause/Cancel?) Time in Inventory counted ?! (I still don't know about that) Check out if faster to cancel between each shot (it is) (CHECKED) Pause Cancel is simply pressing start ASAP and start again to cancel the shooting/knifing animation. It can also be use on zombies. I.E. Knife Zombie Pause/Pause Zombie is still stuck into it's «I've been attacked» animation Jill/Chris are back into the I can run mode That allows you to run pass him without getting hit. The trick can be seen in action here ----» The 2F Dinning Room Also, Doors triggering seems to work at either very specific pixel, complete luck or sometimes just letting all the controls go and press 'X'. Much Like dino crisis, In fact I think the engine is programmed to act very randomly when it comes to door triggering so it's mostly having luck, sometimes it's pixel precision, Informative Informations. A speedrun of 1:04:08 has been made on a Japanese Version of the game and via an emulator , although people can debate about it being done in real-time or it using savestates, I watched the run yesterday and it really looked like it was done in real-time; Many Mistakes and wall hugging. I don't really know if the Jap version Internal Clock runs Faster than the American version; I will have to verify this, but from what I know the fastest times I saw were done on this Version. That's pretty much it.

The reason for jap version to be faster is simple, it take less character to say the same thing, so the texts are shorter (quicker...), im not sure about this one but in re3 boss have less hp in jap version. It is usually prefered to use the usa version (see rules on the site)

I'm using the US version no worry I read the rules :) And yes jap version always has easier ennemies on most games.

Part I: The Mansion I had to redo half of the wip and save lots of frames, thanks to a trick I overlooked, knife/canceling the 1st 2f zombie. Anyway, there are several tricks included in that video, feel free to watch and comment/discuss it. I had to put tape on my monitor to delimit Jill's Feet and Head to place her perfectly so she could play the piano without movie (she moved 2 frames, it's unavoidable). Also dodging the zombie guarding the Tiger Statue was never been done before. Yawn caused me some trouble as I had to wait 5 frames so I redid the segment and changed some movement in order to put an end to the 'wait' time. I managed to also skip 3 loading transition (Chemical room/Serum Room/Paint Room). Testing has been done to determine if running with a 2 hander weapons takes more time than having nothing equipped. In RE2 and RE3, you walk slower with grenade/shotgun equipped but in RE1, there's no difference at all. Kitchen It is faster to take the right path to get to Barry in the beginning Right @ 5804 Frames Left @ 5809 Frames It is faster to turn after grabbing the shield Running against Wall (shield) @ 7293 Turning Instead @ 7287 Faster to go to the left after Barry kill the 1st zombie of the game Dinning Room (On the way back to Main Hall) From The Right @ 10521 From The Left @ 10517 Right Path is faster Chemical Room Right@ 34947 Left@ 34957 When meeting Richard for the 1st time, I always thought it was faster to go through the plant and trigger the cut-scene, it appears I was wrong. Direct Route @ 458803 Plants Route @ 458812 Upstairs Route is obviously faster Downstairs Serum Route @ 52883 Upstairs Serum Route @ 52081 In the Paint Room I tested if it was faster to run while turning or simply stop to turn. Stop-Turning @ 72773 Run-turn @ 72786 Yes it looks ugly, but it's faster! Time in Inventory is counted, for your information

The question is, if submitted and accepted, would this obsolete the DS run or be published alongside it?
Why, oh, why do I even try to understand my own species?

Well, it is a completely different console, but basically the same game... That's a good question really lol. But nice WIP so far :)

Why wouldn't it be. It's the same game? NOt quite sure. The zombie AI behave differently. You can skip door transitions, cutscenes. It's like a speedrun of Original SMB and the All-stars Version of it, apple and oranges.

I know you can run past the tentacles you normally use the chemical on, it takes a lot of running into and getting pushed back in real time, but eventually it should work. It might be possible to do it one try with tool assistance though, I don't know the mechanics of it. Coming back the other way works easy.
