I suspect a video edit.
I guess one could call it a "tool-assisted video" indeed then... ;)

The highest points possible is 999,950 on NES. More are only possible at SNES release Super Mario All-Stars. It can be, that I am wrong, but i am quite sure, 999,950 is the limit.
wrong. I've gotton 1,104,500 pts without leeching. no looping of the points. "I think it would be nearly if not impossible to get the star *and* get the koopa to kill every single goomba." thats really simple even without the use of emulators. I can get 50,000 on the first level without leeching points using a console.
have you got a screen or something?

I would trust andrewg in him saying that it's possible. He IS a WR holder for the game..

this is a translation FROM A FREE ONLINE TRANSLATOR, so it is most likely not 100% accurate. title: [Family Computer] it clears in sou perm Rio brothers 4 minute 54 seconds I dunno why sou perm rio got in there comments:It is the animated picture which tries aiming toward swift attack clearing with the Family Computer edition sou perm Rio brothers. Fine you adjust the operation a certain human playing with the computer, have played to the computer finally. After the play time pushing the start button, until the last hammer you step on, that the which it does, with proper form measurement 4 minute 54 seconds 15 is Very garbled but I think mostly it just means "this is a TAS, the time is 4:54 the timing is from when the player presses start until when the player touches the hammer."

Triple redundancy FTW. (Two other machine translations were already posted in this thread; the latest before your post was much better than this one.)

And don't waste your time, Pom's video is probably some frames faster.

Just wondering if anyone thinks the current movie could be improved, I'd be interested in having a go, although I'll have to refer to game resources to get an understanding of the game tricks. I've seen a video, which uses GG, but I'm confused if the games been hacked. The bit I'm refering to is located at 3:30, but when I did a wall jump to get above the pipe I wasn't able to advance any further, although would glitching into the pipe in the first level do anything at all. The only bit I could question is the previous run is the warp pipe section in 1-2 and the bit leading to the world 8 warp pipe in 4-2. Although I might not be able to find any improvements to it. [Edit by Bisqwit: Joined into existing thread. To quote hanzou: <hanzou>hmm a new topic about SMB1. I wonder if anyone has thought of TASing that game b4.]

normally, this won't work, because there is a "scroll-stop" on the screen after the pipe, so it can't scroll further the pipe. so you have to use gg-codes to get this.

This game is within Phil's area of expertise, AKA. Not only has Phil already beaten Pom's movie, but if you were to beat him, Phil would have to beat you, and then we'd all have to suffer through more bleating and chest beating and the like, and I'm not sure I can handle that what with Brett Favre being past his prime and all that.

If Phil has beaten his movie then why is it not published?

How big is phil's improvement over pom's published run? and just as Mukki asked: why is it not published?

I very much disagree with this "game X belongs to player Y, and noone else may attempt to beat the current record" way of thinking...

Xebra is saying that, if Phil's run is beaten, he will not rest, eat or care about personal hygiene until he has beaten that run.

I think that Phil's improvement is 1 frame, but I'm not sure.

in relation to jumping over the axe... this is not a glitch... this is intended and is present in the snes version aswell... it only works when bowser is dead tho... thus enforcing the axe to be a required item to get for fast accomplishment...

I have a question reguarding smb1, so i was thinkiong here is probably the best place to ask it. Is it actually humanly possible to get a 244 on level 8-3; that is, on a console? Do you have to press left and right at the same time in order to do it?

To be clear for everyone. Our video, me and Genisto, was 3 frames faster. Some people didn't like it, it discourages me and I decided to cancel it. Then Pom's beat me by 1 frame.

I think that instead of max points on a level, it should be the fastest time to reach 999,950. And no abusing "repeat" glitches, like turtle+stairs or that thing on 3-2. Ooh! How about ending the game with EXACTLY 999,950? THAT is entertainment! And you could establish the score in such a way that it would be given at the end that you would have 999,950. I mean, established like 3 levels beforehand so it would seem like a fluke that you made it at 999,950. You need to get 860900 points on top of what is there. If you played every level on top of what has been done (remember only 8 levels are run in the recordholder), you would need to average 35870.8333333333333333333333333 points per level. The other levels would be run just like in the current run.

You're missing a 9 there, Cham. It's 10 million, not 1 million.

Not only that, but you can't get 999,950 points and keep that exact score through three levels. You gain points from the score countdown at the end.

just time it so you'll have ...940 points and one second left ;) or something like that. I mean we're gods, we can do anything we want, move forward and backwards in (game)time :)

In the original game you dont get points at the end of any of the castles.
