This is my timeattack for Nosferatu, finished in 25:45 on hard mode. The game plays like a mixture of Prince of Persia and any beat-em-up, but you can see that in the movie. If anyone is confused about the crystals: every 3 red crystals grants you a stronger standard combo, which makes boss fights much faster. There are also blue and green crystals, but those affect health bars, and therefore are a waste of time.
  • Takes no damage
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Plays on hardest difficulty
  • DOESNT use a cheat code (this time ¬_¬)
If the movie desynchs, I don't know what to tell you. I've been getting mixed feedback from people saying it works completely or that it will desynch at random areas. I suggest you let the program, the ROM, and the movie all fully load before viewing, and I recommend not using any sort of turbo. Also, if the music drives you crazy, I don't blame you. In my frustration at the game, i tore my headset 's wires out because I couldn't stand the music.
edit: Chis believes that this desynch can be solved by setting your audio sample rate to 32 kHz (default). Please try this if you get a desynch

Bisqwit: If your movie can't be viewed (and recorded) with audio at 48 kHz, I'm not happy.
Haven't tried yet.
Bisqwit: I can't get this movie to work. I tried various different sound settings to no avail. The ball is now in Phil's hands. If he can record it, I accept that. Otherwise this submission will be rejected.
Phil: This movie is working pretty well with my settings.
Phil: Published.
Flygon: Synced at 48kHz, take that!

adelikat: I got this to sync, at 48kHz with the following:
  • v1.43 improvement7
  • Use WIP1 Timing - On
  • Allow Left+Right - On
  • Volume Envelop Height - On
  • Fake Mute desync workaround - OFF
  • Sync samples with sound CPU - OFF

Looks good, up until the first couple of obstacles in stage 3. That's where it consistently desyncs for me. desynched for me aroudn Lv 3 just as you were passing that axe flipping back and forth. all in all i thought this was a pretty good attempt. i have 1 little question though. i noticed right away that you pass through monsters without getting hurt. i'm not sure what the deal is with this but it made the movie seem as if you had a invincibility cheat on. care to explain? (never even heard of this game before tonight, much less played it so cut me a little slack on this if its an easy answer) besides that, up to level 3 i thought you did quite well. the movement was smooth, fight scenes went quite well, i'm sure it could be improved but up to what i saw it was good standard to base another run on. however due to the fact that it desyncs i cant vote yes as i have yet to see the last parts. sorry about that

Like i said, there are no cheats on this time through. My initial run that I didnt submit used a 9crystals cheat, because I hated having to find the power ups. This was against the rules, though, so I redid it without any cheats. Plus, there is no invincibility cheat available in the game at all. The only monsters that hurt you when you pass through them are the Frankenstein monsters, the mummys, and a few enemies that can go into 'fight mode' (which is when the see you from afar and begin a ranged attack). Anything else, which is pretty much limited to the imps and the zombies, wont hurt you if you touch them, but that doesnt mean they arent able to hurt you. Basically, if I stop to kill it, its because I cant pass through them without taking damage. Youll see with the second frankenstein I encounter, I slide 'through' him and then trip. This isnt a hit, because I dont take damage: its more of an interaction with his shoes, or something. Also, youll see me 'block' a few punches by the.. uhhh... swashbuckler zombies: those arent hits either because I take no damage and, obviously, block them. Hope that clears everything up. Also, to anyone that has desynch problems: please either PM me or leave a message here stating where it happened and how it happened. So far, Ive heard of the movie desynching right before the first boss and in the beginning of the third level. I hope to pinpoint where the ROMs are screwing up so I can find out what the heck happened to the coding. Thanks.

Yeah. Sounds like Dark Mana and I lose the action in the exact same place. Strange.

It's even stranger considering that there is a schism between users who can see the whole movie and those get desynchs. If I knew any way to test the files for obvious flaws, then maybe we could figure this whole shebang out.

I'd be more inclined to believe there are ROMs with minor difference floating around. Does the checksum on your ROM match mine?

No. Even Zurreco says he has problems watching the run.

Ah, I see that now. After some more viewings, I'm seen desynchs in other places, such as the stage one boss, or beginning of stage 2. Those are rare though, and are probably my fault. The most consistent place is illustrated by this video [XviD]: http://www.geekjosh.com/nosferatu_problem_1.avi Hope that helps.

that should be 'had'. Overnight it decided to start working again. After Nrg told me he could watch it, I decided it mustve fixed itself. So far I'm hearing of three desynch areas: at the first Frankenstein, just before the first boss, and at the the beggining of the third level. It seems as if the ROM is "forgetting" to run at these points. Either the coding misses the double tap, or the ROM is off time by a few frames.

I watched this one and no desynchs whatsoever. Nice tricks you pull there every once in a while. :) For the ROM info:
File: Nosferatu (U).smc Name: NOSFERATU Speed: 30/FastROM ROM Map: LoROM Type: 00 Kart contents: ROM only Header ROM Size: 16Mbits Calculated ROM Size: 16 Mbits SRAM size: 0KB (0Kbit) Actual Checksum: 24DD Header Checksum: 24DD Header Checksum Compliment: DB22 Output: NTSC 60Hz CRC32: DE762764 Licensee: Seta Co.,Ltd. Which perfectly matches the GeekDragon's ROM.

FIXED. Okay, interestingly this happened to me in Gens as well, with another rom that I KNEW was correct. I have the same Nosferatu rom as Tombad, and the movie desynchronised immediately after stage 3 began (at the axe). I had audio sample rate set to 44.1kHz. Setting it to 32kHz fixed the error, and the entire movie played back fine. I also had "sound sync" ON. Bisqwit, if you see this, could you PLEASE post this info somewhere so that all forum-goers see it? It would seem that the audio samplerate is crucial to watching these xMV files correctly, at least certainly in Gens and Snes9x.

default sample rate is 32 kHz. blip specifically said that if there are choosy desynchs, copying the same audio set up should fix the problems.

Even better then, it would be nice if the authour of each movie could state specifically what samplerate was used when recording the movie? Oh yes, and I hope that the single no vote for this movie was simply due to the supposed desync... as this IS a fabulous run of an incredibly hard game.

not a bad idea. ill go back and tack it up there so people can be sure to avoid the desynchs (if the sound is the only reason for it). Also, I dont know what the no vote is for, but thanks for the compliment :D

It is a pity that even according to all setting information mentioned above, yet I cannot replay it correctly at boss1. The key point must not be just sampling rate: 32kHz. Sth. else should be done. Then Phil and Chis, since you both replayed it successfully, would you list out your audio settings in detail?

Then I use Improved Snes9x (v4), it become a little better ---- going bad in stage3 "at the axe". So what should I do then...

Way into the future. Heh, it plays for me. Just watched it. It certainly doesn't fall short on its graphics or animations, or even puzzles. Good job on the run. It was definitely entertaining. And this game is a somewhat lengthy one as well.
