No videos of the tournament yet but here is a video of that kid playing a song on expert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yEjyuw42YY What happened was he picked a song and I lost by 2500 points(lost at the end cause I over strummed). Then I beat him the next round by like 23000 points. Then a damn wild card that was a song I dont like came up that the kid was good at. I would have gotten further if I would have practiced that song more.

Has anyone actually tested to see what happens if you press A in front of an upside down chest? I mean, with bomb hovers you kinda are standing on a ground though it's not really there. It's a pretty unique case and i don't think the programmers ever had the slightest thought of this possibility. Or is it simply programmed so that it's just a texture put there to make it look like a chest? So that it doesn't really have any functions?
Here is what I think. Firstoff the chest would be fully functional. Secondly and I'm sure AKA knows from my reply to his "dirty dodongo" vid, is that if you were to bombhover to the height of that door in dodongo's mouth (while his mouth is up), you can press A and open it even though you are in the air. The only thing that matters is that the texture is loaded and that you are at the correct physical location to open it. I'm sure it works exactly the same for chests. Only problem is that if it's facing or tilted wrong, who knows if you are in the correct physical position. Maybe yes, maybe no. Not hard to test for an experienced TASer like guano.

Not at all. This is your 2nd TAS of it. You have great understanding of how the game works and how it controls. You have your timings worked out and knowledge of frames. I'd say you are experienced. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TZXn7gaLmc I made this vid about 2 months ago. Never uploaded it. This was my theory for sequence breaking Forest. Too bad it didn't turn out. When you superslide after the vid starts, the movement is locked and so the superslide has no momentum, and you end up supersliding in place. This is crap. This means you have to use other magic spells and items to manipulate the timing of the bomb while time for the cutscene timer is not elapsing. This way you can have the bomb blow up before the cutscene starts, and also have the superslide be initiated. Then you can superslide onto the elevator as it goes down AND once it reaches the bottom... you can get back on and ride it up. Skipping all the poes. Then you just need to get the boss key and bow.

I think AKA may have gotten the superslide to work before the Poe cutscene initiates, but even with that, he had to turn on cheats and levitate a few times to get into the elevator. Here's his original post and video:
Here's what happens when you enter the lift early, I was trying to do it in a legit way on Mupen earlier but unfortunately it didn't work for the reason shown in the video, plus it literally needed to be frame perfect to activate the superslide without getting damaged, but amusing none the less. When I get trapped in the elavator I levate to land back on the lift again, but I'm sure it would work with a backflip also. http://files.filefront.com/Project64_2007_01_25_16_5Wavi/;6611307;;/fileinfo.html
With Kazooie going back to glitching OoT (he said so himself in the TP topic over on SDA), hopefully he'll be able to figure something out for us...

I;ll watch that vid. Also, I have an idea about what to do... I'll have to test it out to see if it's possible. Then I'll work from there.

Acryte, I tried that same thing and found myself just running in place. However, I managed (in the room before) to place a bombchu and go around the room and explode right by the poe door damaging me on the other side when I get to the door after I close it. This could be useful! However, for the superslide, Link needs to grab something and I have nothing to grab.....I was tryng to find a way to get a bomb to "Go through the door". I have found nothing yet. I tried things like Deku Nuts/Ocarina/bombchus/fish/bottle....nothing seemed to stop the timer of the poe cutscene. However, if we all keep looking, we will find something eventually! EDIT: I am 9 min 10 seconds ahead of my run, although my calculations show 9 min 16 seconds...... This leaves me with 24 min and 13 seconds to gain in the Adult Segment!

If you're doing a superslide then you'll need to have the hover boots on, becuase otherwise Link wil lose friction on the stairs and stop supersliding, the hardest part of all is that you'd need to superslide in a perfectly straight line otherwise Link will hug the lift and will eventually start slowly moving sideways.

simple really. He didn't know you were talking about a TAS. So, it is usually not beaten. We only play up till the bow and then leave. But using bottle adventure which he mentioned, requires beating it then. But he didn't know you are talking about using bottle adventure. Guanobowl - I had previously misread your post. THERE IS ALOT OF POTENTIAL THERE. I had been using a bomb and doing the same thing... but a bombchu is much better. So here is the idea (I'd test it but my emu is being gay ever since I reinstalled my graphics card drivers)... Cast Nayru's Love (this may be omittable if we have enough time to roll). use bombchu. Let timer run down. go through door. quickly shielddrop bomb and have bombchu blow up bomb at the same time you grab and then you will superslide :). Pause and put on hoverboots before you start picking up speed... you should be good to go. I'm pretty sure that this would work... if anyone has a mupen save there that they could give me I can test too. The one I'm on has no bombchus. I'm almost guaranteeing that this will work. I was on PJ64 at full speed, but if you stand all the way over by the 2nd step then drop it and backrun, you still have like half a sec to stand at the door for it to time right. Which means we have time to burn. Which means we have a working timer. Which means we can keep adjusting the time until it takes minimal frames to set the bomb and have it blow up the next frame after we grab it. go there.

I thought that idea might be good. When I get to the Forest Temple, Ill have a look into it. Btw, if you equip hover boots after you bomb levitate up to the top level in the Sacred Forest Meadow, you can do a superslide from there to the stairs to the next stairs and bypass the big guy with the club(forgot his Zelda name) Saves about 4 seconds!

Acryte, if you want a Mupen savestate then I can provide one for you, although no apoligies for not having magic or Nayru's love to assist you.

Just out of interest...what would happen if you were to perform the Ganon Early glitch immediately after getting the hover boots and without doing BA?

Thanks AKA it helps. Guano - hope it works out... I'll test it too. theenglishman - uuugh... we would go fight ganon and then not be able to kill him since we can't use arrows w/out a bow because we have no quiver and can thusly hold no arrows. This was tested in gerudo training ground I believe when they grabbed early ice arrows before having the bow.

So you can grab the bow and some arrows from the Forest Temple, killwarp and go straight to Ganon's Castle (after getting the hover boots obviously)...and you still need Bottle Adventure...how is it necessary? EDIT: Yeah, the explanation last time in Guano's comments was bleak at best for those who were watching OOT speedrunned for the first time...and JXQ's commentary, while hilarious, was uninformative (sorry :( )... maybe Guano should do the commentary track this time round explaining everything he couldn't in the submission comments?

Light arrows come from a cutscene in the temple of time or from using bottle adventure, but to go back to being a child to get it that way, sheik needs to disappear. Sheik does so when 1 temple is beaten.

If the game only required us to beat one temple in order to see off Shiek then we'd quite simply complete the Shadow Temple mainly becuase the cutscenes afterwards are much shorter compared to the Forest one. BTW Acryte I tried loading the Deku Sprout cutscene as a child, the one after the story about Links mother and it worked. The forest remains like it is when Child link is there but as soon as you re-enter the area it becomes like it normally is when your a child so there must be more to the game freezing than just the cutscene not being in the internal memory.

I didn't say it was any other temple, I'm not talking sequence breaking here but I understand why you both thought that since the game is totally destroyed.

heh sorry, I was actually programming a modified game of chess that I came up w/ and haven't been working on the trick for a while. I'll probably leave it up to you since I don't want to try frame advance to do it.

I'll think about writing a technical commentary if there is sufficient interest and I have time.

Do you mean subtitles to go with the game, perhaps in a seperate AVI. Too often has this request been turned down by the encoders. I wouldn't mind having another audio comentery. Someone who knows more about the game might be a better choice this time round.
