Looks very nice, and brings some pleasant memories as well. The only thing that bugs me, though, is the fact that it could have aimed for fastest time as well as for 100% kills (I guess it is possible to have 100% kills if boosting all the time?).

Here are my goals, not necessarily in order of importance: 1) entertainment 2) 100% on each stage 3) speed So far in this run, they haven't been mutually exclusive. I boost whenever possible, kill all enemies, and do crazy-ass stunts that nobody ever teaches in pilot school. The only speed improvements I can see are perhaps a few frames on the bosses and lag reduction, neither of which I particularly care about. Also, lag reduction means less entertaining dodging-of-obstacles.

Nicely done.

Macbeth Complete I like this boss, the Spinning Core. The concept is so ridiculous; I mean seriously, what engineer in their right mind would design a weapon that spins on both ends, flips upside down, and has eyeballs circling it? Yet it's challenging to beat and just plain awesome to watch. Ingenious. Okay, here's an idea: first-person view on Venom. (Not ground, of course, just atmosphere.) My rationale is that there are few if any obstacles to dodge, I could move around the cursor in time with the music or something, and it would provide all three viewpoints in the run (cockpit, right behind, and farther behind). The disadvantages are no fancy spinning maneuvers and no view of the Arwing until the Great Commander. Does anyone strongly disagree (and why), or should I go ahead and see how this turns out?

Ytt, very nice work on the run so far. With regard to your idea for the venom atmosphere battle, i would vote against using 1st person and going dancetron with the crosshair. If you are going to sync with the music, why not just do it in 3rd person, that way we can see the arwing flipping around like crazy while still annihilating everything in its path? For the run so far, i am loving every second and cannot wait for this vid to go up for publication.

Ditto. 1st person view is generally not good at all, for this game nor the N64 remake. synching with the music sounds good. from what I glimpsed in Venom it seemed there were a lot of enemies, but if you can do musical stuff, kudos. side note, it feels weird every now and then with looking at this game of lines and polygons. it's hard to play StarFox 64 and then watch this run, and not the opposite by playing this and then seeing the way better graphics of SF64. and plus the planets look very different. thumbs up! looks good, and you're almost done!

While i would love to see the same effort go into a SF64 vid, i find the original SF to be very nostalgic. It was one of those games i would slack through my homework for just to play sooner when i was in like 6th grade.

that run is not dead, trust me. =D yeah this has good nostalgia. but for me, I played way more SF64 than SF. thus, the weirdness feeling I get when watching it.

Venom Atmosphere complete I decided to go with third person after all. After a bit of testing, I determined that first person didn't look very good. So instead I spin the Arwing around with the music up till the boss. I figured out completely on accident that shooting a nova bomb out in the middle of nowhere on a particular frame results in 50% damage to the Great Commander. I've always loved how, at the end of the next stage, the Great Commander returns and becomes amazingly inappropriate for children. I mean come on, his weapon is "iron balls"? His crotch, specifically the area where his genitalia should be, opens and closes? The entire stage is filled with phallic symbols? How could Nintendo get away with this?

Looked good. definetly shoot the Great Commander in his crotch. see if you can iterate with the arwing's movements/shooting pointing out how inappropriate the game is.

I love how every boss battle is different and entertaining. Watching the boss of Venom Surface really was confusing/amusing. He just kept floating around in circles and you randomly pegged him. Then he just sort of disappears. No big explosion. Nothing. Just whimpers away. It was a good ending to the stage considering that was probably the least "lively" one yet. I know Venom 2 is crazy busy, so it should have plenty of action.

I think it'd be really funny if, during that empty time after the first Great Commander battle, you make the Arwing sort of look down as it spirals toward the planet and then shrug. "Huh. Don't know what his problem was. Oh well." Kinda the impression I got from that battle. Anyway, keep up the awesome work! I love this game, and I love this TAS.

I like how this looks so far, though I think it would be better if you destroyed as many enemies as possible. It is entertaining however to say the least. By the way. Anyone else having trouble downloading any TASes by Torrent tonight?

Huh? There are some that can't be destroyed on Venom Surface, but I've gotten 100% on every stage. And for those doubters, screenshots to prove it: Oh yeah, I guess I should mention, I beat the game. So, is there anything I missed? Something that should be corrected or can be improved by a significant amount? Or should I go ahead and submit this?

Wow, great job with this one. :D As far as submitting, would it be published considering there are emulation errors?
<Zurreco> if so called professional players cant adapt to every playing field, theyre obviously not that great

I would hope so. the emulation errors are mostly speed-related which is good because the SDA run of this at normal speed was REALLY boring.

It could be nice to see a run of route 2 as well.

I was thinking of doing the other routes, possibly with the black hole, but I'm not sure how entertaining they could be compared to level 3. Difficulty decreased, fewer enemies, and one less stage. On the other hand, it might be nice to see some more of the cool bosses like the Plasma Hydra, the Dancing Insector, and the Attack Carrier. I'm even willing to bet that the Metal Smasher can be defeated before it "smashes". I'm not sure a lower-level run would be accepted though. A few people seem to be voting "meh" on the submitted run because they don't find it very entertaining to watch. Funny, I always enjoyed this game immensely. I played this so much back in the day that I could routinely get all 100% on level 1 and go through level 3 without dying. But I guess watching isn't the same as playing.

only 2 meh votes, and 21 yes. don't sweat it :-P I actually think different routes might be accepted, seeing as a few other games have alternate route runs.

I'd love to see the second route, too... that level near the end, with all those pillars and motorbike-type things. T'would be cool.

I'd love to see both Level 1 and 2. Mainly for Nostalgia. Used to play this on my SNES all the time a while back. ^^ I was never very good at it though. :3

Incidentally, I am planning on doing a level 1 run and a level 2 run sometime soon. I just got an assload of schoolwork dumped on me this week, plus a few tests, my endocrinologist experimenting on me, lack of sleep, general laziness, insert excuse here... I'll have something done after Mardi Gras. I just don't know what. :)

Start with #2 first. Everyone and their mom has played the first course to death.
