Looks great! Though you should probably analyze the reasons why the arrow long boost works sometimes, and why not. I think there is for sure a reason that could be manipulated to make it work everytime. Maybe I'm wrong though. GV1 is still the best one so far, but it also offered many more possibilities for crazy and unexpected shortcuts. Great work, hopefully the next tracks will also offer this nice shortcut-possibilities!

we both tried doing an extended boost in lap two from different angles and stuff. we even went back and tried not getting 10 coins. none of it worked. we're still not sure why. In order to make the gap Huffers simply did an infi-boost instead. Next course should also offer lots of nice shortcuts.

is it slower if you're going to turn Bowser to tiny when selecting a character.. ? i don't remember was it a "code" or a glitch you just need to press something while selecting the character.. i used this when i was a little child

Hmmm, maybe it's worth to ask a Super Mario Kart expert from the realtime record site? I think they could give a hint to this.

Great, can't wait to see the next course. :-) Shinryuu: It is definitely slower. To make a driver small you have to press Y and A in the same time before selecting the driver with B. Not only you lose time in the selection menu, a small driver is also much slower in the Races...

for the menu way at the beginning? I selected Bowser and hit the yellow ok button both on the same frame by hitting B and Start at the same time. you then have to wait for the screen to fade on its own. if you make a .smv showing faster menu, I can try to splice it in.

But I think the small versions might get better long boosts, and handling in the long boost. I still really doubt they'd be faster, though.

just watched the BC wip, saving the feather at the end to bounce out of bounds for a hack lap = classy. keep up the good work.

Boosting aside, which I know very little about despite being from the realtime competition site, this looks good. I'm wondering though, if you instead of hitting the wall before your feather jump, couldn't simply jump sooner and land in the very same spot, but I'm sure you tested this. It would quite likely also be faster to build up a boost as you slide around the wide turns. MC2 should be a really interesting display of boosting. The most peculiar thing might be acquiring Mushrooms efficiently. Andreas

I'm really curious to the wip but I don't have a zsnes set up for playing files. Could somebody record it to avi and put it on youtube/google or some download-site?

it's being recorded on the Snes9x, so it won't work in zsnes I don't think. Huffers and I have begun MC2, and when we're done we'll post a wip, at which point I'll give DeHackEd the pleading puppy eyes and hopefully he'll encode a movie, which will be the entire movie 25% done. One of the funny little things that Huffers and I noticed that makes the end result seem like it'll come soon is that each lap is 1% closer to our final product. :)

Looking great so far, my favorite is easily the Ghost house level. Although that will probably change in the final product ;D

*delurks* Hello all. I used to play Mario Kart a lot, and if I remember correctly, I once skipped a lap on Mario Circuit 2 by using a mushroom and landing in the grass to the left of the finish line, as shown: I did try to do a little bit of research before posting, but none of the SMK sites I went to mentioned it. Also, though I am an utter n00b at this emulation stuff (I just downloaded SNES9x today), I did try to do this on my own. The best I could come up with was going back a lap. Heh. Anyways, I'm pretty sure you can't simply hop into the grass, you must first cross to the right of the grass (past the finish line?) then curve back and land in the grass. Of course, my memory could be playing tricks on me and I could be making this whole thing up. Also, I remember finishing once and seeing Princess's time as ?'??"??, which I think would be fun to recreate on a TAS if you can spare a turtle shell or banana peel to trip her (or someone else) up and somehow get her to never cross the gap. I am very much looking forward to seeing this run.

well, I tried doing that (I could have sworn I did that myself once) But I got this! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3852/Kartjump.smv I doubt this would be useful to the tas as I did this without mushrooms, and from what I'm getting is that this tas will be loaded with 'shrooms. I forgot, when you load the movie, leave the first thing checked (WIP timing) and everything else unchecked (If it doesn't do it for you).

Thanks for the info. I thought of doing this trick myself, but after bad luck trying a similar thing on Bowser Castle 1 I didn't bother trying. Since you say it worked for you, I'll have a serious go at testing this trick. The only problem with this is that it requires some cunning turning, and Bowser isn't the best at turns (I'm guessing you weren't playing as Bowser). I'll be really annoyed if this trick is only possible with some character other than Bowser - it could be a major time saver (and I want this run to feature as many silly shortcuts as possible, too).

From my testing of this level that I've already done, I am certain this trick will work if you can pull off the mid-air turn.

Doubt I'll be able to spare a shell, but thanks for the encouragement.

I was already planning on doing that for the last lap ;-)

I didn't think of that. I was probably playing as Koopa or Toad, actually. Good luck with it. I hope you get it to work out.

Neato, I'd like to see that again, for the life of me I can't recreate it. It was a one in a brajolion shot.

Just posting to mention that Huffers is going to finish this run on his own. reasons: 1) I switched to MK64 2) Huffers always had better luck than me in getting the items. (he has his own luck bot too, which isn't ported to windows yet which means I don't have it.) 3) up to this point, it has been Huffers behind the wheel most of the time. I will still contribute when/where I can.

well who'd have thought it! Spekkio's trick is possible as Bowser :) Here's a proof of concept of the trick being done. I think I'll do this on the last lap. EDIT: note on this video, I spin out, do the jump and go from lap 1 seemingly straight to lap 3

beautiful. I at first watched it and thought it desynched, due to grabbing green shells and unoptimal driving/skidding out of control, but then I saw the lap times at the end was like "holy shit!"

Yeah, that was just me driving around real-time without save states just to get to the end, so you could see the lap times

Oh man, why would you save that for the last lap and not just use it as much as possible? It's glorious!
