It's a two lap skip right? use it twice then. First time it makes you skip the lap 3, 2nd time it makes you skip to lap 5. the 2nd time you do it, that will end the race right there. (right?)

well who'd have thought it! Spekkio's trick is possible as Bowser :) Here's a proof of concept of the trick being done.
Amazing! I'm glad you got it to work. Well, my work here is finished. Carry on. *goes back to lurking*

Would it be faster, in Bowser Castle, to use the last feather for a shortcut, and then get an item box (shroom) past the finish line, turn around, and get another item box (feather), and super boost (the things you did in GV) you along the way with a feather in your bank, to take the last shortcut? There will be some backtracking, but with the fourth lap shortcutted, you should save some time. Ok, to reiterate: On the 4rd lap: get a feather, take the normal shortcut, go past the finish line (final lap will display), get a shroom, u-turn, and boost yourself over another item box (feather), and take the final shortcut that would have normally done with a feather on the fourth lap. It could also be faster to eliminate the mushroom, and just go for a feather on the fourth lap.

Oh man, why would you save that for the last lap and not just use it as much as possible? It's glorious!
I think you lose more time if doing it in every other lap, because when Lakitu puts you back on track you lose much time during this animation, and the need to accelerate from 0 till top speed (which Bowser is the slowest in) after that costs also much time.

No. You only gain 1 lap with that (Huffers got 3rd instead of 2nd lap in his nice demo-smv). DK64: I think your suggestion would be slower in the end, because you just lose too much time on backtracking that way, and the time gain wouldn't make up for that.

Yes, but remember, to do this trick * the lap before goes slower (as you have to save the mushroom for the ramp), and * the lap after goes slower (lakitu drops you slowly, and you start off with 0 speed, rather than in a long boost (you could have obtained a long boost from the ramp/boost-arrows)) But I'm still going to try it both ways and see which is faster.

Tricky to say if this would be faster or not... You're swapping the shaped bit of track, for a race to the item boxes and back instead. I didn't think of this idea - so I'll give it a try now :)

Mario Circuit 2 is done. Here is WIP #5. Time = 41.96, non-tas record = 58.58. I'm going to try doing Spekkio's trick to skip lap 3 and 5 now, to see if thats faster.

I was surprised at the end of the bowser level. I thought you decided to take the long road :P At this rate, i would say that it would surely be published but the level that you turned all the way is very boring. Except for that, everything is amazing!

Amazing! Though the entertainment factor is sacrificed for a faster time again. But it still has 2 long boost laps, so it's not that bad and makes even more variety that way.

Hmm, looking back at that bc1 wip, and applying my 2 second shorter idea which I suggested beforehand... Why not do that same thing for all laps? Is lakitu way too slow to put you back on track? Or you could do it on the last 4 laps, and do the first lap like normal? Maybe I overestimate the time it takes for lakitu to put you back on track?

Racing to the item boxes and back with a mushroom and feather does one lap, and is slightly slower than just doing that lap the normal way (with the feather shortcut). Where did you get '2 second shorter' from?

Sorry, I meant 2 seconds longer. It was late last night :(.

No problem. Anyway, Choco Lake 1 is done. Time = 28.28, Non-TAS record = 41.71 I've cut this WIP so it starts from a savestate (for ease of viewing), but the actual run requires the version of snes9x modified to record/play resets. I'm sure you'll all be disappointed to hear that I couldn't get the "driving in little circles" glitch to work on this track :'(

I don't know, if that's due to the fact, that I'm not very familiar with Mario Kart speed gaming, but you blow my mind with every new WIP you post. Amazing!

why do you switch drivers during the run o_O

because it only costs about four frames to switch at this point. To be honest, I'm not sure who's better for the Flower Cup; Koopa or Princess.

One thing is for certain, driving with DK or bowser on any chocolate level means suicide. Good idea to change, and nice wip.

Do any of the flower cup courses suffer from switching away from Bowser? I'll have to look at the wip. I don't know if you're using the exact same reset patch that I'm using, but it might be helpful for me to check if the entire .smv works for me (the patch that I used for DKC2 enabled everyone to see it. I just want to confirm that we won't have Linux only viewers get to see the whole product.)

Not at all! I very much prefer to see such, simply mind blowing, laps you just showed in this WIP. This is not Super Mario Kart anymore, this is Super Crazy Kart man! You impress more and more with each WIP Huffers, thank you for that! Regarding Drivers, changing them would make a much more entertaining TAS IMO. The couple of frames you lose shouldn't matter at all if you make much more variety that way. Maybe you should ask a expert which driver is preferable for which cup though. Koopa seems to have better or longer long boosts, very good control in the corners, but for that he has the slowest top speed of all (along with Toad who is equally to Koopa in all driving skills). I doubt its a disadvantage though, because you use his strong long boosts all the time anyway.

Toad / Koopa do not have the slowest top speed. Yoshi / Princess do. I'm not sure Koopa can take the circular Ghost Valley 2 SC with a Mushroom, or the long finish line SC in Bowser Castle 2. Otherwise, I think it might be a good choice, since it makes for easier and possibly tighter cornering abilities in MC3, if you are planning on using infinite boosting. Andreas
