Duke Nukem 64 is a classic port of the PC classic Duke Nukem 3D, unfortunatley much of its charm has been lost through the port as Nintendo at the time were very strict on censorship and so much of the sexual and language content had been removed, but none of its gameplay engine or physics had changed and the level design are generally very simalar throughout.
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Plays on hardest difficulty
  • Takes damage to save time (no choice really)
  • manipulates luck
  • Abuses programming errors

Truncated: This movie has possible improvements of 30 seconds or more. As such it cannot be accepted in it's current state.
Many people seemed not to complain about that though, but instead voted No because of
  • low framerate
  • too dark
  • general incomprehensiveness about what is going on
A remade movie incorporating the known improvements with less lag would be acceptable. Playing on easy could be an option, if that helps the lag any. The movie can be encoded on higher brightness to make things more visible.
(On anther note, I find it strange that the site gives this movie 100% confidence rating, despite the large number of No votes.)

You have a yes vote for me. I found it entertaining though the fps & the dark segments bothered me. Not an awesome game for TASing but good enough. Is there not a brightness setting in the game/emulator, or perhaps some way to encode it that way? That would help a lot. Also, I see no problem with someone putting their work on other sites. It is their work, and they can do as they please. It does mean some competition to tasvideos.org I guess but not really. This site is still the place that provides quality control. You know that the runs on here aren't faked in some way whereas on other sites you only get an avi and have no way to confirm that the person used cheats and such. Also, we also strive to be the "best of the best" only hosting the most impressive/entertaining videos.

As an invisible member, I'll comment that I personally like to come home after work and pipe the AVIs through to my tv before going to sleep. I'm a pretty busy person and I don't really have time to dig up the specific emulator and rom for every movie (setting aside the fact that it's hard to get many emulators fullscreen on my TV instead of my monitor). I like the convenience of being able to just get the AVI and play it. I'm probably not representative, but that's my two cents.

Yes, indeed. Can the run be encoded like this? Or is this a setting that should have been done in the TAS itself?

Well, one could point out that with all the runs in the queue, why is an encoder going to bothering encoding that is already on youtube before any of the other videos? Providing it's not a game like Mario or Sonic I suppose, but those seem to follow a different set of rules or something. Edit: Apparently my post wasn't clear; I wasn't saying it would never be published. I meant the order which it gets published in. Why encode something which has already been encoded, when there are 40 other things which haven't. Why does it deserve to be bumped to the front of the line over other runs which have been waiting for months. Especially when it already has an 'avi' floating around out there.

The problem is that those tases don't become official until published by this site, and out of the many viewers there are some who know this site and question the video's validity.

Hoe, just wondering if its worth skipping the blue key car in Lunar Reactor, since I noticed that the main vents lead to the sewage room, and is there any way to blow up the wall next the orange cylinder from the floor above, also is there a video of that shortcut in Dark Side that involves the jet pack because I still can't figure out how to do the shortcut, BTW thx for doicumenting the glitches as there was no way I'd ever have figured out all that stuff myself.

Voted yes -- but is there any way whatsoever to change the brightness? Seems like you're just running in the dark, and it's difficult to see a few spots. Sorry if this question was already answered somewhere in this thread.

The question is whether it can be raised in the encoding, or would the run have to be redone and select a higher brightness setting in the run itself.

As far as I'm aware when I looked through the options there is no brightness setting for the game.

I watched this again using the full 190% brightness and its certainly makes a significant difference to say the least, for anyone who wants to know how to do it simply have 1.6 as your pluggin and then goto Options >> Video and there you'll see a brightness scroll bar.

Watched it and to be honest, I'm not really sure what to vote on. It's done well and I'm a fan of FPS games (like Doom), but the level of movement makes headaches. x.x Not to mention it's also dark, but it's been mentioned that 190% brightness can fix this problem. And there's not that much kiilllliiiiiiinggg :( Yes vote covered with meh-sprinkles and meh-frosting. =/

If I was doing another movie I'd probally look at breaking 14 mins although I'd probally just fall short of it. Playing on easy would save time although maybe not on the first level. Lag is generally avoided by looking at walls and floors but if people are complaining about how confusing the game is why should I resort to staring at walls and floors. Lag is generally at its worst when multiple enemies are firing all at once there is little that can be done about it other than killing or manipulating them so they can't shoot at you.

Actually, for a run like this that tries to avoid enemy confrontations in favour of speed, playing on easy would probably make for a faster, more entertaining run. You wouldn't have to stare at the walls, since there would be less enemies to cause lag (as you stated). If speed is the stated goal, there's no benefit to playing on hard, as it just adds repetition to the run, and would make it less enjoyable (kinda like playing River City Ransom on hard).

No thats a myth, there is simply more enemies on the higher difficulty and the more deadly ones early on, but I still must remind everyone that they shouldn't confuse lag with skipped frames.

The game runs at the same speed as the PC version, more enemies tend to cause more skipped frames as well as lag, lag can only be prevented by killing the enemies but firing causes slight pauses as well simalar to when a certain action has successfully happened, e.g. switch or door opening, generally you're better off ignoring them and trying get past them as quickly as possible. No enemies are exactly the same in the harder modes there is more of them and the harder ones appear earlier on and in groups, boss fights are exactly the same there is no damage or ammo difference either.

This sentence can either be interpreted as (commas added): 1) "No enemies are exactly the same in the harder modes, there is more of them and the harder ones appear earlier on and in groups, ..." The enemies are different from each other in hard mode. No enemies at all are the same. 2) "No, enemies are exactly the same, in the harder modes there is more of them and the harder ones appear earlier on and in groups, ..." The enemies are the same, but more numerous. From the context I think it is 2), but in any case, please use comma or period to separate your statements. Anyway, if I understand you correct now, the movie would be smoother on lower skill setting. Since PC runs use the lowest skill setting, I think this would be a good idea for a future version.
