Pop goes the sands of time I thought was really well done, well, the 25 minutes I played of it so far.. Dont wanna spoil it really, just a little bit at a time. Not only are the cut scenes pictures you can scroll through with dialogue on the bottom, it's much better than the 3d version, which is slow, slow, slow. This one's faster and so far more fun to play and probably more fun to watch at that. You can play as either sword-dork or bow and arrow bimbo, as opposed in the 3d version you.. well, can't, just sword dork. You can jump diagonally which you couldn't do in the 3d platformer.. and, the DOUBLE JUMP. Never has there been a smoother feeling sidescroller that is prince of persia.. Then there's the sands that do things. I would consider, not sure.. probably would have to go through the game first though.

After reading your topic I played the game for a while. I agree that it'd make an interesting watch when speedrunned (either TAS or on a real console). I prefer the 3d version though ;) something I found while playing on the european version: Death can be evaded sometimes

I just found out you can pass through walls if you get hit while climbing a ledge. No idea if there are different ways to do it, I'm mostly playing in real-time with few savestates and didn't investigate further. Maybe there are other areas where it's more useful than here. Movie

I don't plan to do a run on this, but I will help anyone who wants to with sequence breaking and the like. In the meantime, check out this amazing guide on the GBA port. Luckily for us TASers, it seems this port was not given the polish gameplay-wise that its console parent was!

most of the PoP games have been pretty buggy, making for some interesting runs. The GC version of this had a bug that ruined my savegame >:(

Well, the GameCube version was programmed by one person. There you go. Anyway, important discovery: the very edge of spiked platforms don't register damage, so any puzzles that involve switches which turn them round can be skipped.

Nice. I'd love to see what opportunities these glitches can provide. Oh, and it's also possible to pass through walls without getting hit.

I'm looking for breaking points while creating a route. Basically none of the big shortcuts happen until after the first sand boss (Double Jump). I don't think it's posisble to skip absorption, unless somebody comes up with a clever way to skip the Lion Statues. You can skip DJ temporarily, but other puzzles later in the game require it. EDIT: More major cuts in time! This keeps getting better and better (if only anyone was actually following this thread...)

I'd love to, but for some reason your run desyncs right at the beginning. I too have a bad ROM, mine has a hacked intro. Otherwise I'd check this out as well.

Doesn't matter now, I've switched ROMs to 1232 - Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time (U) (M3).gba . Shorter intro and it's a bit faster. EDIT: WIP with new ROM!

Hm dunno what to think. I wasn't bored, and I watched through it all and didn't fast forward or anything. I think it's a good run and you seem to be doing it pretty well (I think there's a few spots where I tried to analyze, but I know nothing of PoP mechanics so I have no idea), so keep it up. Oh, and don't turbo if you can help it, frame advance ensures perfection.

Rolling is the fastest method of travel by mere frames, but you can't cancel out of a roll early unless you swing your sword, wasting precious frames while the animation cycles. However, when lining up the Lion Statues, it's best to roll because you can stop. The basic rule is: roll when you can, but if you can jump to a platform before rolling one last time, do so. I'm probably going to redo at least part of this (I'm particularly obsessed with perfecting the boss fight). Wait till you see what I have in store for the Farah levels, I'm really looking forward to doing those. Let me just say that, being the misogynistic bastard that he is, the Prince doesn't let Farah do much ;)

As Farah sits around bored, the Prince does all her work for her... (movie + savestate, microstorage isn't working for me, sorry XD) Yes it's sloppy, yes it's unoptomized, but I just wanted to give a gist of the breakage for the first three rooms without using Farah AT ALL. I end the movie as soon as I need to switch to her. I will definitely redo this section, and later I'll post a route of what I have planned for the Farah levels.

Hi, sorry for the delay but I'm currently researching an invincibility glitch. The one catch: they can't attack you, but you can't attack them. Also I can kill most in-game cutscenes and warp Farah by killing myself. Nice stuff ;)

Invincibility's all for naught, so I'm going to go ahead and finish Farah's rooms, including the Slow-Down Ring skip (one of my favourites in the run, saves about two minutes) and I'll post a WIP once I beat the second boss. *hears crickets chirping*

This game makes a nice TAS to watch. Good graphics and sound, and the character's animation is nice to watch. Of course we have some useless girl thrown in the mix (lame), but so far things are looking great. That first boss especially always gave me trouble, it's good to see him derailed.
