What ages would there be? I am not so familiar with history, so, I can't do it better then this: Prehistoric Era (Doom Era)- Doom TASes Famtasia Era - NES runs with slowdowns, starts from famous SMB3 run Frame Advance Era - FCEU, Snes9x, GENS, VBA, M64 rerecording emulators show up And Upcoming Era - DS, PSX, DOS, MAME... I would like to know at least order in which available emulators first offered rerecording `^^

By funtionality used in TAS production: I. Engine-based (Doom). II. Primitive rerecording: savestates + slowdown (Famtasia, old DOS versions of ZSNES, etc). III. Expansion: bulletproof rerecording + frame advance (FCEU, Snes9x, Gens, VBA, maybe Mupen). IV. Technological advance: memory watch, ROM disassembly, using bots and macros, easy movie splicing (Mupen lags behind, yet again). V. ??? VI. Profit! By coverage: I. Engine-based (Doom). II. Cartridge-based console emulation with rerecording. III. Bulletproof optical media-based console emulation with rerecording (first PSX and Sega CD, later other platforms) and arcade machines emulation (Neo Geo, etc.). IV. Bulletproof computer systems emulation with rerecording (Atari ST+TOS, PC+DOS, Amiga+AmigaOS, etc.). V. Creating universal enviroments that would allow to TAS virtually any applications?

By public acceptance: I. The Doom era: Doom TASes are an accepted "curiosity" among Doom (and possibly other) speedrunners as a comparison between a "perfect" speedrun and a legit one. II. The post-morimoto-smb3 era: A large sector of the public gets the notion that TASes are "fakes", "cheating" and "hoaxes". The major part of the speedrunning community thinks so too and disses/attacks the genre. The existence of Doom TASes is forgotten/ignored for some reason. III. Public acceptance era: Most people, including most speedrunners, start accepting TASes as its own legit and separate form of speedrunning. Many regular speedrunners actually have a positive attitude towards TASes. Although some people still consider them "fake", they start being a minority. Wikipedia actually creates a separate page for TASes instead of keeping it as a little more than a footnote in the speedrun page. IV. The future: ?

"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

1. First-Person Shooter speed runs. (Honestly, I hope that with Bisqwit's new run that more people will do PC stuff.) 2. The Famtasia Era (The one I joined in! I feel like such a lazy vet. XD) 3. The frame-by-frame era. 4. The future!
