Not entirely true. They give source code for v1.4 on their site. http://www.pj64.net/main/download/ Does v1.4 emulates games better than mupen64, I don't know.

Hmm...Blast Corps, perhaps? That game just flat-out fails on Mupen64.

Has anybody ever donated for PJ64 Beta 1.7? I heard that it is much more stable compared to the existing build... and the core of Mupen hasn't been updated for over a year now, whereas PJ64 1.7 will feature a brand new core with better compatibilities. Will there be any plans to make PJ64 the standard TAS emulator over Mupen when 1.7 is certified to be a better emulator (when I say emulator, I mean purely emulation rather than the tools)

Only source code of 1.4 is available. And PJ64 doesn't have built in movie rerecording. But I truly hope we will get a stable and desync free N64 emulator at some point.

I've gotten a hold of it and I don't notice any sort of improvements, graphically or otherwise. I havn't played a lot of games with it yet.

The point of an emulator isn't to improve graphics, it's to make them right, even if they are HLE. They are supposedly working on compatibility, implementing microcodes that were missing, and even adding LLE graphics emulation which is most accurate to the original but slower to process.

The core of the emulator handles little of the graphics(textures), it only adapts them from what the plugin understands.. Now how would anything else that's abnormal be fixed by the emulator itself? THE Z-PLANE?? (still plugin) anyway, it's about compatibility.. :\

Not really... At the moment, one of the devs of Project64 is interested in adding support for emulator-based movies into the next public release. Basically, I had a chat to one of the PJ64 team, and they want to know really what exact movie recording features need to be added to PJ64, to allow for tool-assisted speedruns. I was hoping if anyone can assist me in identifying what features are needed for N64 TASes, since you guys know exactly what you need for these. thanks :) BTW: Sorry for bumping, but I do beleive this is important and relevant.

The generally accepted requirements for a re-recording emulator are listed here. This should give them an idea of what's necessary if they want to implement this (which, IMO, would be an awesome addition to PJ64)

Thanks for the list, its really appreciated. This should help them out a lot in working out what to implement for N64 TASing (if they choose to go that route after adding in basic movie support). :)

the linked Maintainance Requirements will give them a bit of trouble:
The emulator must be freely available via Internet without subscriptions or fees.
  • It should be available for Windows.
  • It should be available for Linux.
  • It should be available for Mac OSX.
  • It should be customizable (source code included).

Yeah, it will, considering the current core is heavy on Win32 code....and its uncertain at this stage if they release the source or not...

You should also link them to vba or snes9x (also made by Nintendo) sorce code, that will help them implement bullet proof rerecording and maybe even rewinding Does anyone think they'll make a memory viewer ¦-) Edit: Oh wait, they are making a memory viewer
