I'm willing to bet there's an invisible coin block above the block he broke. I find it hard to believe there'd be such a massive oversight when all the rest of the design is so deliberately sadistic.
More likely you can't actually use the flagpole from up that high - you'd get caught against the ceiling block and then automatically walk to the right forever.

Well, you could always just... you know... not go through the roof, since that would make for a very boring run anyway.

i stumbled upon the following link http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6204903272262158881 is this some kind of hack? It looks like this is originally from a chinese site, and has been (lamely) redubbed. I'm not sure, but this looks definitely ... interesting. Unplayable, though ;)

Hi everybody, I was wondering if somebody could tell me what Super Mario Bros hack is being played in these two videos on College Humor: http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1756138 http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1756133 [Neither is safe for work due to strong language] I would like to try that hack for myself, but more importantly it sparked my interest. I would love to see somebody try to make a speed-run of that game. It looks so hard, I would love to see somebody beat it as fast as possible. Thanks in advance! :)

Hello, what you posted has been posted here already four times. I merged your post into that thread where all the previous ones were merged too. Next time, use the search.

Oops. I'm sorry I did that. I just joined, and the other forums I'm in don't have a search function. I'll make sure next time I use that feature of this one! So... nobody seems to know what the hack is called, or where to find it?

According to Google translation, it is called Mario Metamorphosis.
(this is the third time I have made a post of nothing but quotes. maybe someday I'll no longer need to feel the need to refer people who ask questions to the answers posted previously in the same thread in which they ask questons, but today is not that day.)

Helpful fact: you can view more than 1 page of a thread.

Ah, don't worry about it too much. Welcome, and sorry if I was being too mean ^_^;; It's just a pet peeve of mine that people don't read an entire thread before posting (which is also why I tend to not read overly long threads, so I won't do it myself)

When I posted I didn't even realize I was on page 2 of this thread. I'm sorry I didn't check everything and use the search before posting, I'm not used to these forums that actually work! From now on, I'll check everything before even opening up the posting page!

Not to pick on you or anything, but I think this is the 3rd or 4th forum where this topic appears. So far no one knows where to find this ROM, which is a shame.

The first level looked like it could be majorly walked over (the irony), all you need is a mushroom and then to remove a block in the ceiling and run forever until you reach the flagpole.

AKA, the top blocks are all empty coin blocks.

Google translate seems to have figured that page out: http://translate.google.com/translate?u=tudou.com+&langpair=zh%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools But I don't see anything about the ROM or the video there...

For the second stage wouldn't you be able to use a wall jump or double wall jump at the start to skip over the whole stage.

I found that someone else had posted two videos of this hack on YouTube. I couldn't make out all the Japanese in the decription, but I did pretty clearly see the english title "Super Mario Forever." I thought "hmmm...could this be the true name of the hack?" And sure enough, after Googling "mario forever.ips", I indeed found that some Taiwanese site had posted a link to a zip containing the Nestopia emulator, the SMB1 ROM, and the IPS patch for the hack. Funny that one of the hardest Mario hacks on YouTube would share a name with one of the hardest standalone Mario fangames. XD Anyway, I've repackaged it into a more legal form: a zip with just the IPS patch, and the readme that came with the hack...though, as said readme appears to be written in Japanese, I dunno how much good it'll do English-speakers. :p Have fun, you sick masochists. Wow, thanks 4masty! I wonder how quickly we'll be seeing a speed run of it :) Also, on a side note: can anybody tell me how to use a path with OS X? It seems straight forward on Windows but I can't figure it out here...

You know, I made an "impossible ROM" superplay a while back. I made it at one point warping to 7-1, but it was so hard that I went warpless, and couldn't make it past after 3-1. I'll post the .fcm if you want.

Kosherbacon: Your favorite emulator might automatically apply IPS patches with the same location and name as a ROM. But if not, you can find a graphical patch tool here: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/patchutil.html

Thanks nitsujrehtona, I'll give it a shot! Can somebody tell me what the difference between the Super Mario Forever that 4masty spoke about and the obviously SNES Super Mario Forever here: http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=mario+forever I know they're different games, but I'm a little confused since they share the same title. Are the Mario Forever videos up on google video also games that somebody here on TAS could make a speed run of?
