Trailer is up. http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetdreamcast/orochinagi/cyberfan/superplay/castlevania/sotn/sotn_2006p_speedrun_trailer_by_persona.mpg or http://home.coqui.net/evilaro/gamecombos/sotn_2006p_speedrun_trailer_by_persona.zip No glitches in the vid since I think they ruin the game although I did use some tricks. So far I'm almost done with the first castle in around an hour. Don't forget this is a 200.6% run, that's why the time is quite longer than an actual normal speedrun.

Saw the trailer, really nice. I have many questions: [1] Are you using a console or are you using an emulator? [2] Assuming the answer to [1] is "emulator," which one and how have you configured it? When I use ePSX, my gameplay has several "glitches" that I would love to expunge. [3] Is this a "speed run" without re-recording/slo-mo, or are you doing a "time attack" with tool assistance?

It's a legitimate console speedrun. Don't wanna spoil myself with the trailer, so I'll wait until the whole thing's done. Hats off to you for doing this, Josh.
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I am suddenly really looking forward to this, especially because it will eventually lead to a Time Attack of this extraordinary game.

Hey there, for those who didn't already know, Persona's run of the first castle has been posted to a couple places: Combovideos.com and Fileplanet. Both sites require registration, but it is WELL worth it. This is a multi-segment 100% (or 100.3% or whatever it is) speedrun which uses no glitches and takes no damage. The time is 1 hour and just under 11 minutes...simply incredible to watch IMO. EDIT: Actually, looking into it further, there is one major flaw in this run: Persona didn't know that you could keep doing the bat's shinespark-thingy without stopping. He estimates it could have saved him 5-6 minutes...other than that, though, the only mistakes are extremely minor ones. Also, he is currently about 80% done with the inverted castle but doesn't plan to finish it anytime soon. He says if he ever goes back to SotN it'll be to do a Richter run. -Josh

He left out the opening scene as Richter, unfortunately. Though, based on his stats, he did well.

How do you do non-stop wing smashes? That's not a trick I'm familiar with. It was a very good run, though.

I remember watching one of these and wondering why he didn't continue. I just assumed that it might have been a Saturn/Playstation difference, or he was trying to conserve mana or something strange (because of how you drift a bit after reverting). But if an endless wing smash IS possible, perhaps by holding right or something, then it is odd why they weren't doing it.
I like my "thank you"s in monetary form.

Pretty much, you just keep mashing the motion for it. Persona literally did not know this during the run. EDIT: In the Saturn version it keeps going for however long you want, but Persona was using PSX. -Josh

For a speedrun, it's real purty. The boss battles are amazingly brief. If I ever became a millionare without a care in the world I would time attack this game. This will probably never happen though.

Glad you enjoyed the run. :P It was actually done a long time ago but I didn't have the time to update the site I was on. As for the Richter battle, it was in the trailer so I didn't bother putting it in the castle 1 vid. If time also counts for my starting stats, I defeated Dracula in around 52 seconds. And ya, I didn't know about that technique. I lose around 1-3 secs after each wingsmash but the upside to it is that I actually gain some mana so I can do a few more. Maybe I could've gotten a better time from the route but I can't really think of a better route than this. And like what Josh said, I won't be going back to SOTN for awhile mainly cuz: 1. It really wasn't easy pulling this run off. 2. Not knowing about the technique really turned me off. 3. Even though I'm a CV fan, I'm not much of a SOTN fan (easy to say is, I "usually" do runs for games I enjoy) As for a Richter run, I won't be keeping anything that's over 7 mins, and since my Richter motion skills have become rusty, looks like it won't be anytime soon. :P If you want other speedcrud from me, this is what I have so far: Fatal Frame Fatal Frame 2 Castlevania Legacy of Darkness Silent Hill 3 (not really sure if I still have it or not) Final Fantasy 4 (uncomplete) Rockman X4 (uncomplete) Sonic Advance 3 I'm thinking of a AOS full castle run, but I'll look into that later. Ah ya, almost forgot, who do I have to contact if I want to use some of the timeattacks on this site onto mine? Bisqwit? :o

I'd love to see that :)

You mean 100%? Hm, someone made a run here although it's not 100% but it took him 1h 3min, http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/CastlevaniaAoS.html remember that there's a lot of randomness in AOS, it's still my favorite Castlevania.

if Bisqwit would let you, throw all your completed speed runs on the site. They'd be fun to watch.

In order to do that, you have to use a special password to give yourself 99 luck and a Lapis Lazuli (but your other stats are lowered). Using a cheat code to then exploit a bug isn't terribly impressive. The author of this movie isn't a regular around here, so I doubt he can hear you. It's not a "time attack" but a speedrun anyway, so there were plenty of mistakes.

i think Persona'd found a different and better route but i can't remember if he was reworking it or had given up.

I didn't use that trick since it's a glitch, and I think I said I didn't use any glitches in the run. And to be honest, I don't think it would be challenging or fun to use that trick at Death. :P As for SOTN, I'm seriously too lazy to get the other castle done, but I've been doing a AoS run recently. Same rules as the SOTN run, no damage, full %, etc. And good thing it's only 1 castle so I won't get bored like SOTN. :P

I think (As I heared) Persona don't use Emulators. Is it True? I can't imagine, how long it takes to do a superplay/timeattack without Tools. Sorry Off Topic :s

Too bad i am not as good as you are in castlevania sotn, i have the game and i know the game like the back of my hand, but if i were to try an get the second castle done, you would notice the differences in gameplay. Kind of tempts me to try and give er a shot though. Think my last time for a 100% was about 3 1/2 hours. Not sure if i can do it in less yet.

I won't be getting the 2nd castle done anytime soon, if ever. Although I have finished an AoS run with pretty much the same rules that applied to the SotN run. As for other games I'm doing for the summer, you can check the forums at Cyberfanatix.

Sorry to hear that, man. The first castle was probably the coolest speedrun I've ever seen. I loved the trick with the wolf segment breaks (the library, and clock room to be specific) and I learned a heck of a lot by watching it (and I thought I knew all there was to know lol). Once I get a little time I'll be SURE to check out that forum. You are the sole reason that I watch speedruns now. That run was the first I saw. Thank you. Thank you very much.
