I didn't find a thread of this game so I'm starting a thread. I have considered doing a run of this game and so far I have completed the first area/map/whatever the hell you want to call it. I didn't pick up anything useless or possibly time wasting so I dodge most of the crap on the Great Wall (by time wasting I mean it might add up in the end and waste time, I'm not sure). Here's a WIP of what I have so far: WIP, "Of Great Importance", just kidding. Much like VS The Space Mutants, this game carries an identical/the same gameplay as VS The Space Mutants so you'll see I have done my best to keep things short and sweet. I made sure that when I fought "Fu Manchu Burns" I struck him on the first possible frame regardless of where I am. You can only strike him when he lowers his fan so you'll see that is what makes it a slow-looking fight. Harsh criticism accepted, where available. Really, I would like feedback from what you may know. Edit: Hmm, it seems when you press back and jump on the same frame and then hold forward after that you jump farther and quicker, I shall redo my WIP then I guess.

I think Sami was done a run of this game but didn't submit it. Personally I don't blame him. I don't think this game has much TAS value. I highly doubt I would vote yes for even a high quality TAS of it.

yeah, but I think it's worth a shot, I might find out more stuff to make it more interesting after all I am doing it mostly in frame advance.

I'd certainly like to see the rest of it... more for the sake of nostalgia than balls to the walls, glitched-out TAS action. Well played, but boring so far.

I've started over and I'm ahead by several frames and since at least someone is interested that'll be my motivation, albeit not entirely. Edit: I tested out that picking up crap along the way does waste frames because it is added up at the end of an area of the world. Now with that in mind, I can finally put that factor to rest and actually get somewhere.

Seems that my fight with "Fu Manchu Burns" is more entertaining this time around but it is slower because before the last hit he decided not to lower his fan for a good sum of frames. I think I'll redo the fight and manipulate him a little better then I'll post a WIP. Edit: Okay, I have finally gotten my Internet connection back up (to a certain extent) and will now upload my "Real WIP", which is now 3 seconds faster than the WIP because I started the game up faster (by pressing A and Start at the same time on a specific frame, it allows the game to start much quicker), I optimized the first level to the best of my ability (I think?) by backward jumping when I need to jump (also by climbing at the peak of my jump), and the first boss fight (which I got incredible luck on) is quicker because he lowered his fan more frequently rather than dragging the fight on by being a jerk. I hope this "Real WIP" is more enjoyable, regardless of how similar it is of the other WIP.

Time for an Update. I have completed the second area of the World, the Icy kind of place. It may look kind of slow but this area has a lot of annoyances. When I start the first level, of the second area, the jumps I do were necessary to manipulate the ice sicles and where/when they fall (the jumps Do Not slow me down). Then I get to the part where I have to climb by jumping platform to platform. In this part I did the best I could to do it the fastest (even though it looks slow, now I know why this game may not be the best choice to TAS, Or Do I?) which you have to stop all movement, for 2 frames when you land, then move again in order to cancel out slipping. Also I jump to the best height possible and move in the opposite direction in mid-air before landing to ensure I'm in the right position. If you think this would be hell to do in real-time then you're in for a treat. Now the second level of the second area. By this time I really know why this game isn't the best to TAS. I made sure I jumped on the first possible frame and with the right height when landing on the floating platforms. There may be a couple of times in which I wait but they are for manipulating the SeaGulls' positions so that I may jump without getting hit. This level is boring and a pain in the ass but what the hell, you know?! For the boss I made sure I made short work of him and manipulating where he may come out to the best of my abilities. I think the third area of the world should prove to be a little more entertaining, hopefully, I have confidence in this run. Anyway, Here's the 'Real WIP # 2'

I think I'm going to end this run, unfinished. I played around in the third area of the world and it is even more irritating than the previous levels (does not look entertaining). Even if I did finish I doubt it would seem good enough. With that said I might finish the run but I will not submit it officially.

Nice effort. I know the third level does not seem easy at all. In fact, Bart could not even climb in the Valley of the Kings nor the Sphinx. I guess I had a bad ROM. But, that is why I had to put on the Bartman suit so I can get up there quicker that way. Then there are about two overkills I did. I tortured the first and last bosses. My first attempt is in 12:46 w/ re-record count of 694. There wasn't many re-records since I actually had the cartridge when I was young, and I beated the game several times knowing where to find what I need. Okay, as fun as it was and bored as I been, I finally placed myself into a TAS-er's shoes. I played this run again. My second run is exactly 11:54.71 (Power-on to last hit toward Eric Von Burns), that's about 40 to 50 seconds faster than my first. I do not know if I went through any shortcuts, but I know I cleaned up several mistakes. However, though, I am still not confident that this run was perfect. I guess because the ROM I had was a [b1] dump, the ammunition (red balls) still stayed at same value; it only increases by 10 for every ammo bag I pick up. To say the least, Bart did take damage to save/improve run time, but he never lost a single life. I guess we can say here that my goals were to: - Take damage to save/improve run time - Abuse programming errors/glitches in the game - Avoid as many "Krusty Collectibles" as possible to save time - Manipulate luck And the reason I say "avoiding Krusty collectibles" is because when you complete any stage before Hollywood, the number of collectibles being counted down to your score will waste frames. If any of you decide to perfectly TAS this game, keep this part in mind. I might do this again, but if I do, I will try to make bart dance to the "North Pole" music while standing on a floating iceburg in Frozen River. Because I know that North Pole is best for snowballs, not disco balls. UPDATE: I took another run and now my fastest is roughly 10:47.42. I did take a few shortcuts including a quick Bartman flight to the MAP sign at China\Junk. I'll post the unofficial FCM and AVI soon. I'll have to read more about this site before I re-submit these to the moderators. Oh, and why was the Egypt stages so irritating?

Okay, I watched your wip (with a good rom, no desynch) ... This is a really bad game choice... I don't know how hard it is but it look too easy... The music is too repetitive, my ear even started to bleed... Even the game seems repetitve, like they use the same scene over and over (on the Great wall level) . The mine level is very boring too (and the climbing scene doesn't seem optimized) Sorry, but even if your playing is 100% perfect (even with glitches) I'm pretty sure that if you submit a full run it will be rejected... Try a better game and read all the ressources on this site (faq, forum...).

Yeah, I know there were a lot of annoying things and that there were even times where Bart would not climb in the Sphinx or the Valley of the Kings levels in Egypt, but I had a good run through this one. I'll be glad to try my luck in another game! =) Because I gotta admit, lol, even with the "Bartman" suit, Bart is still full of shit in 8-bit Nintendo. He only looks a lot better in real animation. Call this the underground for now because I wasn't planning on submitting this movie anyway. But if anyone out there wants to challenge this game, just remember: the time to beat so far is still 10:47.42. =)

I own this game, and it's pretty difficult, I have a lot of difficulties to get through the Ice stage.

Re-did my TAS of this game again. This time, it is 33 seconds faster than my previous! And big thanx to user silverjazz for helping me find a clean ROM, cause I actually used that to re-do this TAS for superior improvement! The record now is 10:14.27 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1536506207/simpsons-bart-v-the-world-unofficial-tas-v2-symbolic-X.fcm Note that in the 3rd section of Hollywood/Soundstage 2 (where the "RIP" plates are at), I took a shortcut that saved much time. I was slightly slower in the Hollywood boss battle simply because I was limited with ammunition this time, but it was still improvement with a capital "I"! Also, I did a little bit of dancing in the boss battles in China and Egypt. =P I did slightly better avoiding Krusty junk, but it shouldn't make a big deal if I collect too many in Hollywood. Besides, it's all about defeating the final boss and stopping the movie at that point to see the ending; it shouldn't matter anyway. Video producer: At the ending, you can press "A" to read through Krusty's final message faster. On the other hand, the messages can switch through by itself but it will be slower. My recommendation would be to leave the controller alone so it can cycle through the final message itself, show Acclaim logo, the title screen, and then the rolling credits. Stop recording after the credit roll is complete. There should be no problem. =) I may submit this movie soon as long as the game still doesn't seem too boring. I'm feeling a little luckier now. =)

Is there a way to somehow manipulate a bit more ammo or take a hit somewhere to conserve ammo to speed that up? I only ask, as guaranteed, that's going to be the first place any future TAS will look to clean up and save some extra frames. Congratulations. :) I gave it a once-over last night. The only glaring fault I found was around frame 15,000 where, as bartman, you flew into a wall. I can't be certain that there's an improvement since I only tested this bit quickly, but it does look like you could have saved 15 frames. Also, the "Snow Burns" fight is likely improvable with better luck manipulation; Burns appears in the center hole and there's a delay before you hit him.

It looks like I controlled Bartman to where he missed the secret opening into the pyramid and ran into a brick. But I am deeply sure that was the only thing I remember running into. I only used Bartman in China and Egypt. Bartman power-ups are tougher to find elsewhere. Nothing else, I might use a TAS movie editor to fix the pyramid problem. But that was one good reason why my latest TAS of this game is unofficial. Another reason was that I wasted frames by hanging on a latter during a run through Hollywood - Soundstage 1 (pirate ship). I think we can make this a little bit smoother and slightly quicker, but with a breakthrough of over half of a minute, it's getting closer to near-perfect. =)
Is there a way to somehow manipulate a bit more ammo or take a hit somewhere to conserve ammo to speed that up?
Obviously, so far I have not discovered any other way to conserve limited ammunition per sets of 10. And sometimes I have to waste ammo just so that another ammo bag can drop; to get it, reload, and do another wave of unanswered rapid-fire. It does take manipulation to determine how ammo is best used to defeat bosses/enemies in this matter.

Significant improvement in my 4th attempt at my record. It is now 09:17.08 http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/933477903/NES-simpsons-bart-v-the-world-tas-v4-symbolic-X.fcm Here are the improvements I did: - I cleaned up the "crash into brick wall" mistake in Egypt's Great Pyramid. - I avoided the "invisible statue" power-up and 2 more Krusty heads in Egypt's Valley of the Kings. However, I still had to avoid and/or get rid of the dirt devils; they were still in my way for the most part. - I cleaned up the "unnecessary ladder-climbing" mistake in Hollywood's pirate ship (Soundstage 1) and took a shortcut that also saved much time. - The biggest improvement of all lies in the RIP wall section of Hollywood's "Crematory" (Soundstage 2). Based on the previous movie where Bart was able to jump onto a certain platform that was hard to reach, it was basically somewhat made up of stage layout patterns. I was able to have Bart achieve this goal three times which strictly served as a shortcut and saved a heap of time! There was a glitch I found in North Pole's Frozen River stage. It is where after Bart lands on side of an iceberg, the game warps him to the other side! Call this a program error worth abusing if the player is good at it. All I did was just show it one time; it does take practice! As soon as I gave the last hit to Erich Von Burns to end the game and the movie, Bart takes damage from Burns' last green cone! And that sucked. That can be almost similar to having klmz take a hit immediately after finishing the first boss in Journey to Silius. =/ I tell ya, some games will do that to ya. Wow... And one more thing that I think is without a doubt the most sickest and most twisted part of the movie. In fact, this should bring a little more entertainment. In the first part of Hollywood's "Crematory", Bart takes damage by shoving his head into a hopping statue! It is seen where the statue placed its hands on Bart's neck, but you can't see his head from underneath! Okay, so to summon things up, this game can now be beat in under 10 minutes and the improvement from my last run is 57 seconds! Be sure to have a clean ROM before you hit the emulators. hmm my TAS is still quicker than yours. Your time is 9.17 and mine is 8.05 :o You make lot better job in first boss as me but other stages i can't watch because it desynchs. What rom did you use?

Filename was "Simpsons,_The_-_Bart_Vs._the_World_(U)_[!]". I don't know if you had one with a [b?] dump but I'm sure its errors and glitches can make runs that fast. For me, there were limitations (speed, jump height, ammunition, timing) that made me had to settle for 9:17. So yeah. =)
