http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA2owbwlDyA&feature=related This is probably fake, but I need other peoples thought on this. This would save a bit of time. Is this the famicon version?

Whoever made the video was suprised that there is a warp zone that only contains a pipe to 5.

Well, the point of the video is to show that this is the default warpzone until the room scrolls fully into view.

What? I thought that it caused the 4-2 warpzone to appear in the 1-2 warpzone.

What I think Rridgway is referring to is: In this video, in 5-1, Mario takes a pipe that warps him to 4-2.

There is no warp from 5-1 that leads to 4-2 in this video. It is so obvious... There is not even screen transition. The guy edited his video to show people where are the warps. So at 5-1, he dies not warp, roflmao, then he cut-off the video and put his 4-2 video.

Well, you can. The warpzone that leads to 5-1 is possible in 1-2.

So I was pretty suprised to find out that holding left+right while on the left side of the vine warps you forwards. Could this be used for any levels in the 100% run?

I don't understand. So you're saying that left+right work!!? I did tried with Luigi yesterday but it didn't work. So I thought I misunderstood but it may be a Mario only bug as its engine different than Luigi.

I'd like to test a few things out, but it's odd that left+right while on the left side of a vine sends you somewhere. Most likely my theorys would prove to be slower, but still could be an entertaining thing to include if it meets the 21 frame rule.

just for clarification: on a vine, if you press left+right, it will teleport you either to the extreme right of the screen or to the extreme left. I'm not entirely sure what determines which way you'll go. regardless of what objects are on the extreme right or left of the screen, mario will be teleported there, so this can be used to get inside walls if the stage allows for it. if you're on the left side of the vine, the teleport is immediate. if you're on the right side of the vine, you will let go and start dropping to the ground. if you grab the vine again while you're falling, you'll teleport. the downside is that the screen will not scroll as a result of the teleport, therefore the time lost making the vine appear, getting to the vine and then performing the glitch will most likely not match the time it takes to simply travel to that location. the only place I can think where it would save time is at the end of 8-2 in SMB2, but I haven't tested anything yet. edit:and now that I test it, it's slower because the upper 1 block-tall platform at the edge of the screen is vertically aligned with the top of the vine, therefore mario can't get on top of it any faster, and teleporting anywhere lower is definitely slower than just running and jumping on the platform.

Im attempting to beat the current record of the game, but it most likely wont happen lol. Anyways, can any of you guys see why this run is 1 minute behind the current record? (I can't get the fcm file to run on my Rom). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TEYdeYFNB8

So you want us to try and help you improve a movie that was thought to be perfect for 2 years, until it was improved by 84 frames recently. And your time is currently 3600 frames behind. And you can't use the .fcm or the .avi. Sorry dude, but no one here will respond with any sort of constructive feedback because your request is pretty ridiculous. First bit of advice: get a better ISP that doesn't try and fuck you over by saying what you can and can't download.

Well, first off the music/timing is a bit off, it sounds like you are using PAL vs NTSC or something. You actually lag in 8-1 at points. Your pipe handling in 1-2 and 8-1 is a bit worse than perfect, but I just stopped watching when you got 6 fireworks in 8-1.

Several times you had less then maximum forward movement speed, wiating on pirana plants and such. Also, in 8-4 you wait for the fireball chain underwater when you can pass underneath it if you go full speed, but are as low as possible when you get to it.

Its also faster to wall jump and move through walls in a few places, it seems you played that "glitch free" somewhat. Executing those tricks optimally will probably be the biggest obsticle for Tasing this game.

Ya i should study up on glitches for this game, seeing as the run you saw is the same run ive used since i was 4 years old on the NES (of course not as fast). Im pretty sure you can jump into a spot on 1-2 that allowes you to walk through the wall to the warp zone.

You also didn't skip the flagpole animation at the end of each level.
