Hello everyone!!Nice to meet you again.Let's have a look what movie I bring to us this time. Mabe, this game is about to be forgotten.I had never finished this game when I was a child. So,I improved this TAS

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: FCEU 0.98.25
  • Manipulates luck
  • Take damage to save time
  • Super-Fire!(up+B)

Comments

Try my best,5120 frames in my improvement. I had a better control on the power of weapon when I fight. I chose the spear expet for sword, though the spear has less power than sword.Because I can fight with Super-Fire 5 times! The BOSS is so easy to kill :)

Stage by stage comments

STAGE1( 283frames faster)

Improving some details.I jumb to take damage to let Astyanax can go forward all the time. Have a good control on the power of weapon to kill the BOSS

STAGE2to5(3794 frames faster)

Whith the Super-Fire,the BOSS was killed more faster. Another,The lag.I also fight with Super-Fire to avoid so much lag. Some times,I get spell up!

STAGE6 (1043 frames faster)

Have a good control on the power of weapon to kill all the BOSS.Saved so many times, PS:The final BOSS is so cool!:) Dragon!

THE END

Like Walker Boh said ,the game is really stupid.I finished it.Finished my dream in my memory of child. I'll hope you enjoy it!!

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. Oh! I also corrected the ROM name.
  • You indicated Astyanax (U).nes
  • I updated it to Astyanax (U) [!].nes

Truncated: This game seems to be hard to optimize. Even though this is probably not perfect, it is a big improvement over an old movie, I'm accepting it.

Bisqwit: Encoding. Desyncs for me at around frame 1360. Not encoding.

adelikat: My turn!

Looks good. Interesting how you managed to get the spell powerups, and still save over a minute.

I made a WIP of this game a long time ago but quit because I found the game quite dull to TAS. I haven't compared our two movies all the way through, but it seems that I'm 216 frames ahead after the first level. You gain some time on me on level 2, and I haven't checked any more levels after this (I'm very tired and need to sleep :P ) Anyway, you might want to check out the WIP I have, my guess is that we used different strategies here and there so combining our two movies will hopefully save even more time. :) Here's the WIP I have, it's about 30% through the game. Here are the RAM addresses I have: 006D X|position | | 008E Attack|power 008D Attack|meter 0089 Max|AP 05EE Weapon 0705 Enemy|HP 01FE Lag|when|!=|74 007C Dex|level 05B3 Time|stop|time | | | | 0091 Current HP 0093 Current MP 0725 Boss|hits Sorry for bringing this up now that you've submitted the run and all, but I had no idea anyone was working on Astyanax. I know it can be a pain having to redo a run just after you've submitted it, so I won't blame you or anything if you want to stick with this submission. Perhaps my run isn't much faster than yours after all, and doesn't warrant a new submission. And yes, the game is pretty stupid overall, it lags a lot and enemies and bosses move around in patterns that makes the game very hard to TAS. :(

You don't have to apoligize for that, I had no intention of finishing my WIP, so I'm only glad someone else picked up this game. :) Good luck on your improved version!

Good job on improving a really old movie, dragonxyk! Since Randil's WIP has some different techniques that save some time, will you be starting an improved run soon, or will you just stick with this submission? I have a hard time voting yes to a movie with some known improvements, but the previous movie is over 3 years old, and it looks like an incredibly difficult game to play, and certainly a tough one to TAS too. In any case, I think you did a good job and small improvements be damned, I vote yes.

Nice movie, feels faster than the old one especially towards the end. The damage and spell power management was excellent. It seemed like a couple of times you ran through the whole level flashing from taking damage, but it didn't matter. Good job, and I look forward to an improved version as well.
