Wouldn't that waste more time than save? You would have to wait for the platform to get down.

Yep, the platform isn't in position when you get there with an optimal start

I understand the idea of TAS... but I don't really understand how to do it. I have Mupen 64(0.5.1) and the SM64 Rom file. I can play Super Mario on Mupen... and it's all good and fine... but I don't really understand where to go with it. I know some of the glitches, I guess, but all I know is: x = jump c = attack (space) = z WASD = C buttons and arrows to move - to slow down + to speed up(seems to have no effect even though I see "Speed Limit" go from 100% to 200%) The frame advance I have no idea how to use. I'm pretty sure it is bound to numberpad 1, but I am on a laptop. I don't know how to change the key binding of it because all tutorials use a different version, and I can't find the key bindings page anywhere. Even if I did, I don't understand the concept behind frame advance(guess I need to see it) Sorry, I'm partially retarded on occasions. I expect I will get some pretty retarded responses(but the community seems more respectful than that). I HAVE SEARCHED, but I find irrelevant things. Thanks, Sorry for any burden, Alk

You can change hotkeys by pressing ctrl + S and the hotkeys tab. Everything else you need to know is here: http://tasvideos.org/FAQ.html

There's also an IRC channel on freenode (#nesvideos) that would have people willing to help a newbie out. It's also much easier than having to post repeatedly. :P gluck

Thats the thing. There is no such tab. "Plugins" "Directories" "General" "Advanced Settings" I downloaded the most recent version from the mupen64 website

That's not the rerecording version. This is what you need. As for the IRC channel, it should be /server irc.freenode.net and then /join #nesvideos.

I think you're not using the version expected around here. . .and zOMG got to the post button first.

If you have chatzilla you can probably click this link. irc://irc.freenode.net/nesvideos
This signature is much better than its previous version.

Thanks, now that I have the correct version ( x.x ) it seems to be working out better. I will need to get used to the controls and what not... then learn how to do all the crazy shit. Anybody have a guide or willing to make one or something along those lines on how i can run up some wall corners, or do the glitch where they z+a jump on stairs and go 1000 miles an hour in reverse, and go through doorways? Just a few would help a bunch x.x edit: such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3laTGxwZVk

http://tasvideos.org/SuperMario64Tricks.html Looks like it still needs updating, but it appears to have a little of what you need.

thanks, that has a LOT of stuff.... The other day in the IRC I mentioned having issues using UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT in the place of the joystick, and somebody gave me a link to a plugin, but I seem to have lost it x.x Any help?

I'm sure there's no better guide than looking at any of the published (including obsoleted) tases of the game, slowing to frame advance near the points that interest you so that you can look at what buttons were pressed to produce the desired trick.

what I would really like to see is a playaround, because frankly the most entertaining videos of this game I have seen is those of Mario doing random extremely crazy stuff. Grabbing whatever stars you feel like, no restrictions on what glitches to use, and finish it in half an hour.
This might be what your looking for! A strange 16 star TAS I've been working on for a while, not for speed, but for entertainmet. Its in 3 segments due to my account having the upload limit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNdjfjK-CHE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdgIIOfY7qA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0ORpomq_70

Nice! Thanks for that. I especially liked the entrance to the castle and the first BLJ in the first level... This game has a lot of opportunities for entertainment. I think a "full" run of the game with a star/stars from ever level would be nice, especially if careful attention is paid to just doing crazy un-possible stuff not in the other runs.

That was awesome Bobmario! A couple things I would love to see: - Get to a high point in the level (like the floating island in the first level), fix the camera so it stays up there, and go and get one of the stars. Is it possible to do the BLJ backwards run up the mountain with the camera remaining up there on the island? - On the star select screen, press left and right to go back and forth between the stars so the sound effect goes to the music.

Hazy Maze Cave's butt was sore after that. I'm surprised you didn't BLJ off of the shattering star pieces in the final battle, but overall that was kickass and I would vote yes to the m64 in the submission queue... (where I'm sure a lengthy discussion will bring up how to obsolete it and if this game warrants a playaround or multiple ones or one with all the wacky shit that can be done like smb3).

Nicely done, a lot of those (esp HMC) would've made less careful viewers wipe their drinks off their monitors. And about half the stars seem faster than when last I saw them TASed, but that could just be because you didn't do them at all the same. :)

That's nice! The way you enter the castle is neat -- definitely will not see that in any published TAS on this site. Normally, I prefer to watch the movie on the emulator due to higher quality video and sound. Can you please upload the m64 file ?

Submit it! Edit: the emulator movie file is at the end of the description of the third movie.
