I know there are a few emulators that support recording. But is there any that support rerecording? I think it would be pretty cool doing Time Attacks on it. Specially on really hard games such as Haunted Castle.

I said this before but I'll do so again: I highly doubt we'll see MAME rerecording for a very long time, for a couple reasons: 1. Savestates tend not to work properly with a lot of games (i.e. Gradius). 2. Fixing this is not exactly a high priority for the MAME team. Sad, but true. -Josh
but then you take my 75 perchance chance of winning, if we was to go one-on-one, and then add 66 and two-thirds ch...percents...i got a 141 and two-thirds chance of winning at sacrifice

I haven't got these problems with MAME32 but I must tell I didn't test with that crappy Gradius. Anyway I think AdvanceMAME should be the one to implement rerecording since it works in both Linux and Windows.

I think was Josh is trying to say is take the current number of problems we have with rerecording support, and multiply it by the huge number of games that MAME supports. I tend to agree. Adding rerecording support might not be that hard, but making sure it works, with *all* of the games, is a very big task. This feature would need to benefit from the distributed community of MAME developers and testers who can find and fix many problems that just one person wouldn't be able to fix on their own. This would mean that the MAME community would need to be interested in the feature and would want to see it developed, and this is not the current reality.

It would be cool if you can invite them to register here so we can more closely discuss with "them" about any future rerecording feature.

Sorry to bump such an old topic, but was there any progress about mame rerecording? I wish I could do a speedrun of Over Top, or Pang 3.

FinalBurn Alpha was deemed a more feasible choice for arcade/NG TASing (MAME's code is huge, many things are not working, many things that can affect sync are constantly updated). There is a rerecording FBA version from 2005, but it kinda sucks alot. There's been an attempt to bring it up to date, but it seems the project is currently on hiatus of some sort. Check around the FBA thread.
