About the run
so link must take this long journey across hyrule to save a princess like normal. aww screw it lets go under a castle staircase and forget the princess. thats basicly what happens here

mmbossman: This appears to be exactly the same as this movie. Except a minute and a half slower. And it uses an (E) ROM, when a (U) ROM is available, which breaks the Rules. Rejecting.
irthemann: o i cant believe i forgot the rules thing. aw well. il keep practising until i get it right. maybe i'll get it next time.

I have not watched this (therefore I am not voting), but is this game just a port of the SNES Zelda - A Link to the Past? If so, it is already published here: http://tasvideos.org/1125M.html If this game is just a port of the other game, then I highly doubt this would be published even if it was faster than the SNES version unless there is a huge glitch here that is not present in the other game (and yes, the SNES version has the staircase glitch too). You may want to browse through these pages before attempting another run (and search for the game on the site before starting too): http://tasvideos.org/WhyAndHow.html http://tasvideos.org/Guidelines.html http://tasvideos.org/Rules.html

While I fully encourage you to continue practicing, I suggest that unless theres a significant bug in the GBA version that isn't in the SNES version you use the SNES version instead, since that's the currently published version. We rarely publish runs of the same game on different platforms. Also, I also suggest you only submit runs faster than the SNES publication so as to avoid disappointment.

I'd also suggest that before submitting a next run, post it, or a wip on the forum first, so people can give you some pointers maybe. Most of the TASes at the site are made using frame advance (giving input one frame at a time) and lots of rerecords (in the order of 10000 and sometimes even a lot more). So for the next time, learn to use these tools, and use them a lot. Discuss the run you are planning to do, and post wips.

Maybe next time, you can attempt a run of the Four Swords portion with four players.

I'm not so sure VBA can emulate linking. :/

I have been trying several times with two different emulators. One worked, with the speed of like 1 frame/minute. Might be a good one that works though, not sure.

IIRC, the huge problem with link emulation is that the rated transfer rate on the link is 2 MB/s, which is quite a large bandwidth (especially over a LAN, where 100 MB/s is definitely not guaranteed). Why Nintendo made the link have such a high possible speed, who knows.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CE-TQ8pjz90 I personally can not give you any more info, as all I know about the subject comes from watching that and few replies I got here when I got my hopes up the first time. Hopefully patience will be rewarded though... still really want to see this one day.

There is such a thing as 'VBALink', a modified version of VBA that supports linking. This feature is not in the current VBA rerecording line, but could be added. The movie format would no doubt need to change to support additional controllers/network data or something, though.

I find this Youtube one more fun to watch (not TAS but interesting) because it shows the fastest way to kill not skip Ganon from scratch. whoops almost forgot to add the Youtube link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbOmmPFHEts

Would four players be best, or could it be faster with fewer players? Four Links might be a little slower when you have to get them to all do the same thing at the same time.

FYI, there is an GBA emulator which supports linking and (re-)recording, but it doesn't support (re-)recording linked gameplay.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

What the crap? How's that "Cursed Link" glitch work? It looks like by walking out of bounds you get garbage data to overwrite Link's stats somehow...
