It seems like some movie descriptions on the site contain very neutral wording, and some (more specifically the older ones) take some liberties with uses of words like "amazing" and "incredible" in regards to improvements made. Are there any specific reasons for this? EDIT: Post modified so I don't sound so foolish.

It's just that AKA (who more often than not opposes various kinds of compliments or trivia about movies in their descriptions), who changed that line in your movie's description, didn't notice or hadn't had the time to change it in nitsuja's movie. :P I don't know where you get the targeted vibes, though. I honestly believe I've already moved the rifle away from your living room's window.

Hello, ElectroSpecter, and thank you for the feedback. On this site, we do not follow strictly a Neutral Point Of View policy like Wikipedia does, though we try to come close to that. We provide entertainment, and for entertainment, there are no absolute truths. In order for the site to survive, our publications – the movies – must be considered entertaining and interesting by audience, and to do that, emphasis helps when used in moderation. We must be able to market our movies. I apologize if the movie descriptions seem to be unbalanced, unfairly favoring some authors / movies over others. My concern is mostly about movies that have a rather anticlimactic description, such as this*. Want to become an editor? *) Which currently reads: > TODO: describe this movie better > This movie is another one that's in the series of "hard games played to > look like they're easy." > > This is a 262 frame improvement over its predecessor.

If anything I feel we should encourage quirkiness in stuff like movie descriptions, because if there's a more appropriate insult than 'robot' to give a TASer, I'm yet to hear it.

Descriptions should be made so that there is little need to change them when an improvement comes along. Apart from maybe "improved by X amount over the previous movie by Y". The site as a whole is generally lazy when it comes to updating descriptions, so it would be useful if most movies were described in that way. I'm perfectly fine with jokes in decription, infact I largely encourage them. Provided they're relevent to the game; unlike the Bimmy reference made in the DD2 description. Aladdin is a game I'm very familar with, infact I was considering doing a run on it at some point. I also knew from watching the previous run that +2.5 minute improvement was a dead certainty. Also when the game was initially decribed I got the feeling that adelikat wasn't all that familar with the game to know that it was a fairly expected improvement. There is no need to take it personally, I can apologize if it came across that way but it certainly wasn't my intention.

in my completely unbiased opinion, wikipedia isn't so neutral, and neither is their "neutral point of view"

In my completely biased opinion tasvideos.org shouldn't even attempt to have a "neutral point of view". This site is for entertainment and fun. This is not some dead-serious encyclopedia (like wikipedia so hard tries to be, IMO often for the worse). Trivia, tidbits, anecdotes and jokes only add positively to the description of a movie. IMO if someone gets a good laugh when he reads the description of a movie, that description has succeeded in its mission.

I completely agree with Warp in this matter.

Regarding use of "incredible", etc: What's wrong with people being suprised when a previous run unlikely to be made faster is in fact submitted and published?

Thanks to everyone for being kind. I feel a bit foolish and I apologize, as my imagination can run away with itself. Specifically, sorry AKA if I was taking anything too far.

I think that expressive movie descriptions, with some humor thrown in are a good thing. However, I don't like sentences which only act to inflate the author's ego, such as "This shows the author controlling two characters, now that's really hard to do!". Thankfully, it seems that those types of descriptions are most common in the older publications here, and are slowly getting weeded out.

I didn't even get a description for my Tom & Jerry movie, they just kept using the old one.

Yeah, well, "they" are just editors with spare time :) I try to make new/update descriptions as much as I can but I "try" to do a lot of things. Perhaps a thread ala the screenshot update thread would be good for people who aren't editors to suggest changes. A lot are tagged with the TODO link which I usually where I look to find ones in need, but there are definitely many that could be expanded.

I suggest that suggestion be put into a new thread for suggesting changes.

The only problem with the humour and little jokes is that this site does get machine translated, and such idioms tend not to survive the translation very well. That said, I deeply enjoy most of the descriptions I've written and would hate for them to be turned into "neutral" point-of-view comments.
