I don't think TSA uses save states at all.
Okey, do they think thats like cheating or?? If theyre doing these speedruns, the best way is using snes9x with savestates?? all those other are that way, arent they??

If I have got this right, TSA makes speed runs on a real SNES. I, for example makes time attacks with emulators. Speed runs and time attacks are not the same thing by the definition I have learned and that I now use.

sxxxe83: Ok, let's try to clear this up. 1) Yes, it is possible in an emulator to start a run, make a savestate and continue some other day. RTFM: http://tasvideos.org/UsingEmulatorTools.html 2) TSA only does unassisted console runs. You couldn't know this, as a newcomer. When he says he's working on it it most likely means he is practicing. You can see some of his other runs here: http://www.planetquake.com/sda/other/other.html All runs on that page (SDA) are done with consoles, no savestates or slowdown. All runs on this page (Nesvideos) are done with emulators, savestates and slowdown.

These are the reasons it is taking so long: 1) It is not easy to produce a good run on ALttP, it takes tons of attempts. I've done about 120 in the last 60 days. That's 2 a day. 2) I have captured two runs below the WR time, but I have reviewed them and found potent enough mistakes that would leave the current WR holder an opportunity to beat me based on plain skill, not path choices. 3) I am trying to make a near flawless run for a human player. My goal is that once this video goes live, you must be TRULY better than me to beat it. I don't want it going online only to reveal my strategy so some other person just uses it to beat me. I have two other people (not the WR holder) saying they want to see this run so they can beat me. I want to make them eat their words. 4) The video files are around 2GB. I'm on WiFi. It is unreliable at this moment. I have to upload the video to Radix's server, which will take possibly a few days. If for some reason I can't get the video to Radix via internet before Dec 17th (when I leave college for home), I will mail him CDs with the files broken up. So when I say it's taking time, it means I'm trying runs and not succeeding, or testing out new strategies.

I am having a bit of a problem, i am trying to do a 100% speed run, but no matter what i do, the video desyncs at the boss in the desert palace. No matter how many times i redo the boss battle, it desyncs, but i did a video before and it didn't desync. I am using Legend of Zelda, The (U) Is there a specific rom version that will not desync, or is there a way around it?

Since this game has had some serious desync problems for us in the past, I'm not surprised. Flagitious said he wanted to wait for a new version of snes9x that might fix these problems. But for now, I'm not sure what you can do about it. On another note, I really think we should get this topic going again or are you all just waiting for TSA's next run? SMW shouldn't get all the attention!

Culden: How does it desynch, in what way? Do you move too far or too short a distance, what happens? If you're desperate, analyse it and try to copy or delete a frame and see if it helps. Deviance: Route discussion would be fun, but less so until we know it's recordable. Also it's easier to optimise a path which is known to be good (meaning TSAs vid) than starting all over from scratch. Personally, I'm not wellinformed enough to have much to say about this game...

If you are doing a time attack, then I hope my soon-to-be-online video will help. It is truly not the same as the 1:51 video online. I mean, drastically different Dark World route and strategy. I also hope the time impresses...as I said on my own forum, I nailed a run earlier Thurs morning that I think is going to turn quite a few heads...and I think this run surpasses my OoT run.

Well, it desynced in many places, but i have just changed my movement to fix the problem, but only during the the boss fight in the Desert Palace can i not fix the desync. It seems that the boss is too random?? I say this because he shows up in a different spot in the video i make, he shows up in a different sopt yet Link goes for the worm where he was when i was recording. I think it has to do with the save/load state. What i can do is make the run up to that point, then take the boss fight from my other video although i did get hit in my previous run(cause i didn't know how to rerecord) So is there a way i can implement a part of another video into this video? If there is i can just take my shitty boss fight and put it in until i find a way to fix the desync. I got the next 5 days off and i am almost done Illusion of Gaia 100% run, i may take it on again. (Off topic) For those who would like to see my runs, they are not as good as yours, but i am making video walkthroughs, not speed runs. So far i have Breath of Fire 1 and 2, Earthbound and Super Adventure Island 2 completed and Illusion of Gaia i will have finished tonight and i dont get hit in adventure island 2, and the rpg's i just fly through, i didn't record me leveling up so the RPG's are in parts. Its easier to follow and you don't have to watch it from the very begginging just to watch certain parts. I think i did good, i am very proud of my work and i didn't cheat at all. Still got to make a site for my walkthroughs though, but im not good at it so it may take me a long time to get a site going, unless someone wants to host them for me?? I know they are not good enough for this site already. ^-^

>I say this because he shows up in a different spot in the video i make, he shows up in a different sopt yet Link goes for the worm where he was when i was recording. Well that's a new one. O_o Usually a frame is lost or skipped somewhere and the character is in a sligtly different position than last time so that he's hit when playing back, but wasn't when recording. >If there is i can just take my shitty boss fight and put it in until i find a way to fix the desync. Yes. If you know how to use a hex editor, you can copy the relevant buttonpresses from your old run to the correct place in your new video. Note that only the button presses will be transfered - if monsters decide to behave differently because of pseudorandom factors, you're out of luck. (This is what usually happens.)

I would love to see your skilled speed run as soon as possible. I too will leave my apartment for christmas. However, don't rush TSA! The way you handled ZooT I don't think you'll have any problems with Zelda 3, which also in my opinion is one of the best games ever. So, I could wait another few months for it to see it done ;P

he's done over 200 runs over a period of months, so you can bet it won't be something rushed.

I tried various versions of LTTP roms, but they all seem to desync, i haven't tried it up to the Desert Palace boss though, maybe i will give that ago, but i was also thinking, if i save the state as the hole in the sand begins to open, maybe the video won't desync, but the exact point when it ddesynced in my last video(no matter how many times i finished the boss) was right after the first worm jumps out of the sand for the second time, after that all hell breaks loose and you see Link running into the wall slashing like there is no tomorrow...until he dies that is ^-^

OOOOO, i got passed the second palace boss ^-^ it desynced sooo many times and it took me about 5 and a half hours. So far i am up to Zora's waterfall about to go to the third dungeon, and i got everything so far, not taking any hits. Of course it doesn't look as professional as many players on this site but i am proud of it, and just realizing that i can work around all those desyncs makes me quite happy. But it takes a real long time. I should have the Light world fully beaten and everything aquired in a few hours then i will start working on the dark world. Oh and i am using Legend of Zelda, The (E). I thought it wouldn't desync as much but it does even more so it seems, but i will stick with it since i already put in many hours, i might try an even more professional looking video when i complete this one and work out my root alot more thoroughly.

Considering the game and its tendency to desync, if you do plan on submitting it you might want to post your progress anyway.

But the thing is, it will not get on this site, its definatly not professional enough, im just doing this cause its a very interesting game to play and watch. I am a bit sloppy compared to your runs. But i don't take any hits at all and i am aiming for 100% of the items. I just beat the level 3 boss. Took me literally 2 hours just to get the last 2 hits in. I had to study his movements alot because my movements altered his movements. It was very complicated to record but i am right up to leaving the forest after getting the master sword. Of course, since you will be seeing alot of faults, i am up for contructive critisism, and if you have any maps or plans, i would greatly appreciate them, cause i am going off my mind and the help of a walkthrough, and frankly, its quite hard since i don't remember all the events in the game or where every little thing is located, so i am rerecording alot. One more thing, i do not have a web site or anything, so would it be possible for one of you to host it for me please? I have no problem with people viewing my progress, but i don't think its good enough to be submitted...and if it is, then it would make this run worth the while.
