Currently, I can't give out 'technical' ratings for published movies - I can give ratings for entertainment, but whatever I select in the other drop-down box, it doesn't seem to register (and records as 'missing' when I look at stuff I've rated).
I thought this was worth making a thread for. Hope that's cool.
I'm just some random guy. Don't let my words get you riled - I have my opinions but they're only mine.
I find it somewhat ironic that the very first feedback of the new voting UI is that it must be buggy because now there are two dropdown menus... :P
Does anyone have any suggestion about how to make it clearer that the first dropdown menu is the integer part and the second one the decimal part of the rating?
Maybe it would be enough to add some explanatory text to the rating page...
EDIT: Ok, I added some explanatory instructions to the rating page, which should help clearing up possible confusions.

Could it perchance use the same rating engine as on the forums?
It's forumsubmissionvoting.php. If you'd like to create a common module that would implement both the forum and site submission votings at once, it'd be nice...
I can think of three possible options:
1) Keep it as it is now. Basic engineer principle: If it works, don't fix it. (Unless people start complaining that the dropdown menu system really sucks and must be changed. ;) )
2) If Javascripts are detected, use the forum voting widget, else the dropdown menus.
3) Allow each user to choose in their user settings whether they want the dropdown menus or the forum voting widget.

Oh, so the additional dropdown boxes are decimals? That was far than obvious. Pretty funny mistake though!
If we're going to have decimals, I suggest using textboxes instead of dropdown boxes, and make it clear in the rating system description at the bottom of the page what is allowed as input.
The forum voting widget is pretty cool too, I agree that it would be a nice addition for those having Javascript enabled.

IMO the dropdown menus are way easier to use, once you know what they are for. Just a few mouse clicks.
It is probably right though. Entertainment ratings count for about 2/3, and technical ratings for about 1/3... so the person who only rated entertainment contributed about 2/3 which is roughly 0.6 (I know, rounded it would be 0.7, but there are other factors too). It's close enough to what one would expect for it to seem ok.

Wait, so there actually is a site guideline/calculation for entertainment > technical (aka speed)? That's hysterical!!!! I guess that "obsoletes" the speed vs. entertainment debate/topic. A TAS pun! hee hee!
I don't think that the category factors are a statement on what is more important (speed or entertainment), but a result of people complaining that they don't have the means to properly judge the technical quality in the same way as the entertainment value. Thus it sounds logical that the entertainment vote is given a larger weight than the technical vote.
