It will be possible !!!! As soon as there is a Wii emulator working full speed. Don't expect it to be any time soon, the ps2 emulator isn't finished yet.

Hold your horses. I hardly think Dolphin will have issues running Mega Man 9 at full speed since its a simple (NES-ish) game. Now for games like Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, that'll take a while, but it shouldn't be the case for Mega Man 9.

Oh, Dolphin emulates Wii now? That's cool, didn't know about that. I suppose leejunfan777 doesn't have to wait as much as 3-4 years, I'd say it's down to 1.5-2 years now.

If it were actually a NES game wrapped in a customized emulator, there'd be some hope of a TAS soon. But if that were the case, I'm sure someone would have extracted the ROM long ago.

If you haven't done so yet, check out individual level speedruns by MegaDestructor9. They are already almost TAS-like.

Oh yes, because Xbox 360 and PS3 TASing is wayyyyyy closer than what's been suggested already. lol

I kinda object. They are well-thought, yup, but TAS would'not look even close to that. Basically bacause he spends ~40% of time in menu striving for minimal ingame time while TAS version would avoid using that menu unless absolutely neccessary.

Well obviously in-game time and realtime runs would be in different categories.

If we were to have have those categories for Mega Man 9, I cannot imagine how awful the in-game time TAS run would look like. It would probably take advantage of the menu a lot more than the current speedruns. Maybe we should start discussing a preliminary TAS route?

What do you mean? Do you have some improvements or techniques in mind that would abuse weapon switching?

An In-Game TAS would also abuse the Challenge List menu popping up. In case you didn't know Pressing - on the Wiimote to bring up the challenge list DOESN'T remove the current weapon used on the screen. So in other words it's basically saves some "In game time" when it comes to attacking mid bosses like C.Shot against the Chankey Dragon. It would roughly be like: WRONG IDEA SEE THE NEXT POST (0001)1 (Button) (0002) - (Minus button) wait until you can exit the menu and then: (0369) 1 (0370) - THE SECOND POST LOOKS MORE ACCURATE. again for another 3 more times until the dragon is defeated. Although I don't know how useful it will be since the All Clear times doesn't show the milliseconds. So abusing that trick might not even save 1 second if the time gets rounded at all.

Why would it only save milliseconds, though? Is this like the Select trick from Megaman 1? I'm afraid I don't understand.

Normally like in most of the games now you want to turbo fire the B button. It works like this: (0001) B on (0002) B off (0003) B on (0004) B off (0005) B on (0006) B off. It takes around 5-6 frames to normally see 3 M.Buster shots. Now if my theory is correct: ( I accidently found out a flaw in my last post) It could be like this: (0001) B + SELECT (0002) onwards. This should Fire and also go to the challenge screen (then exit) so that you can fire again at the earliest possbile IN-GAME frame. This should save 1 IN-GAME frame per shot. But since it's roughly 4/60 frames (16/60 when counting 2 clock flower and 2 Chankey Dragon fights) difference, it might not save an entire second to find out the All Clear time.

Any popular game that includes a timer will end up with nearly-frame-perfect routes anyway, assuming that there aren't techniques that require repeated rapid frame-perfect button presses.

The Concrete Shot-zip abuse is very impressive. I wonder how much more it would break the game under actual TAS conditions.
