If there's already a Super C thread I'll be happy to take it over there, but search didn't yield much relevance.
I started this run, and I think I have the general concept down. First level is almost complete, just need to do the boss, which shouldn't take too long.
Anyone have some suggestions, ideas, or glitches to use? I'll be doing pacifist (obviously) and death as a shortcut (or damage to save time...contra is a one-hit-kill game, so I guess either would make sense), but any others?

Things to keep in mind:
- You should watch the currently published TAS if you haven't yet
- The Spread gun increases boss health by a non-trivial amount.
- The Fire gun is chargeable, and (IIRC) has the highest damage per second rate in the game.
- imho, the major choke-points will be the bubbles in Stage 4 and most of Stage 7. See if you can get past those stages before continuing.
- Bumping into a ceiling has no effect on your vertical speed (and by extension, your hang time).
- If you jump on the last boss after killing it, you can display your hero's amazing power of levitation.
Is he allowed to shoot the orbs to get different powerups? I don't really know how pacifist is defined... but if it is something like "shoots as little as possible", then getting other weapons would be a problem (if it is "kills as least enemies as possible", then I guess it's possible (if the orbs aren't considered enemies of course)).
Hmm, if it is "kills no enemies at all", then level 7 might be troublesome. I'm pretty sure the bubbles at level 4 can be bypassed. If, like he says, he my kill himself, the invulnerability time probably solves the level 7 problems too.
Either way, a 2-player run is always more interesting to watch than a single player run... just saying...
I believe orbs are friendly transporters who carry the reinforcements for the main hero. :) IIRC, shooting them has so far been allowed in all pacifist runs.
Indeed, judging by the Contra III pacifist run.
The bubbles should be irritating, but probably passable.
Level 7 might be the problem. I can only hope I have enough lives to sacrifice unless I can jump over them or something.
If not, would I be allowed to use the super c code?

I did an incredibly sloppy test of the first 6 stages* to determine the feasibility of this run. I was able to make it through all of those stages without killing anything (enemies or projectiles) or dying. I haven't bothered testing whether or not it's possible to make it over the tall aliens in Stage 7, but I should note that they inch forward when you shoot them.

Guess I'll post my progress as well. Hadn't had much time recently, so haven't gotten much done.

Obviously the first gun turret is passable, I guess I only thought otherwise because there was so much crap everywhere. It is my first tas, anyway.
But any suggestions/comments/criticisms?
Also, tried from RT's run, the aliens don't seem to be passable without dying. However, judging by his run, I should have enough lives to get past them.
I don't think it's possible to get past level 7 in a pacifist run, even with dying. I'd suggest you or someone else to make a movie clearing level 7 first in a pacifist way before starting to TAS this.
Nice job on showing it's possible :) You were only 1 life short of game over though :P
Either way... this kinda proofs that a 2 player run isn't possible (unless probably you would kill everything with one player to get him all lives, and let player 2 be gone for a short while of the TAS... but it would see kinda random.

I didn't write down notes what each was. There are some level position, character position, maybe for player 2 also, maybe lag adress, and lots and lots of enemy health adresses, which are also boss health adresses.
Edit: If you can't figure out what a certain adress does, let me know, and I'll give it a try figuring out.
With it, you can know important data you wouldn't normally be able to know about the game & how it behaves. This is really useful when you're doing a TAS. (You can also use them to create codes, but that's something not allowed to use here)
