Anyone try Brawl TASing yet? By this, I mean saving a replay file to a SD card and editing it with a computer. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, I'd sure be interested in seeing some optimal Target Smash games or Home Run contests.

That sounds pretty sexy, like how in DDR when you edit the memory card's edit data to make custom steps for the arcade. I wonder why I haven't heard anyone mention this before?
Working on a mod of an old favorite in my spare time. PM for updates!

Very good idea. There must be many other games on that too. But nintendo was pretty strict about "safety" in Brawl, so they probably made it hard to edit. Of course, it can't be impossible..

A novel idea and all, but once you get past the incredible amount of back and forth while getting the input windows down, you're still left with a game that sadly nobody seems to be impressed with once a demonstration is made. Not to be the pessimist, but I think it's more trouble than it's worth.
Kirby said so, so it must be true. ( >'.')>

Looks like JPleal10 is 10 steps ahead of us. Is Dolphin closer to full TAS capabilities than I was aware of?

He may have been just editing the replay file, though I don't know how possible that actually is.

I'd like to see some runs. Tired of elitist coming in going "nope its not Melee don't do it."

Wonder how long you can get in OOT before the trial time is over. The quality on that TAS is superb. I wish I could play at that res.

I am not an elitist. I hate brawl with the passion of the christ. Seriously, fuck that game. <3 melee, though. I don't know who that is being elitist.

Let me guess...you're using SSBB's built-in replay function to substitute for rerecording. Though that doesn't quite explain some of the recent SSBM TASes floating around that didn't use AR. EDIT: nvm, fixed that problem.

No I should say that you can TAS any game that works on gamecube/wii there are limited features, but enough to make a decent, although short, TAS video. I would make some, but I don't have time at the moment

Oh. So, which build has these features, and what about it limits the duration?

Considering that the subspace thing is just a big movie and the struggle to just get 1 ssb TAS published; I don't see any reason to make one of this game. But then again, short ones for fun could be great.

Well, the SSB fastest run relied on using the same moves over and over again. Subspace requires the use of multiple characters, and the characters using multiple abilities in order to complete it, so I don't think a full run of that would have any of the same problems SSB did. Also, Brawl does have the closest thing to a full platforming game of the series, so don't count it out.

The big problem with Subspace Emissary, as I see it, is that it's long -- which doesn't make it unpublishable, but does make it a daunting prospect in comparison to the other things you'd be tempted to TAS for SSBB. That said, a Subspace Emissary TAS would be an ideal starting point for having a savefile for the other TASes people might want to do, given that it unlocks all but three (?) of the characters.

If you do a Subspace Emissary TAS, you might as well make it a 100% TAS. I mean, the only real difference between an ANY% and a 100% is a few extra doors and a few extra characters. Not that a any% TAS wouldn't be just as fun to watch.

It's not mel-*gets shot* Please don't do the SSE though. Its too long and repetitive.

The issue with doing SSE 100% is that, IIRC, the last few percent aren't available until after you've beaten the campaign. So you'd go watch the credits and then skip out, get a few characters...and stop the movie. It'd be a much better movie, viewing-wise, if it ended with the credits.

found this funny also the sse can be finished by a human in about 2 hours i dont see how a tas of this would be boring considering it'd likely reduce this time a bit and the 100% movie could go back and beat tabuu again with one of the three characters they had to go back and unlock if they wanted to add entertainment value to it, just stop timing after the last character is unlocked

You know, I never got an answer to this question. Even the ability to make only short TASes would be incredibly useful for a number of games. Does anyone here know how to do what antd describes in his post?
