I've decided to run Joe&Mac for the NES again.
After a trial using FCEU and submitting a TAS of this that i consequently cancelled, have re-realease this now that it is 100% optimised. It completes the game about 30% faster.
The Object of this TAS is to beat the game as fast as possible whilst making it as entertaining as possible without losing a frame.
After a long time working on this, i believe all boss fights are nearing flawlessness. no frames i believe is ever lost in any level either, and lag has been scrutinised (particularly 2nd last and last level)
- Made with FCE Ultra 0.98.15
- Takes Damage to save time
- Aims for fastest time
- Manipulates Luck
Hope you like joe on a bit of steroids. Enjoy.

adelikat: Rejecting. My reasons/comments are stated in the discussion thread.

Anyone ever told you that you sound "a little" like Phil? Anyway I'm going to give your run a watch to see if it matches up to what is being said... Btw, please provide the GoodNES rom name next time... EDIT: Just finished watching it, I'm wondering why didn't you take damage to bump yourself forward for most of the side scrolling? I mean your health is almost always full, so might as well make use of it to save time, no? The bosses look quite well done in general but just one question: during the green T-Rex fight, why do you keep moving back instead of standing still, letting it walk through you and spamming the crap out of it from behind? Will hold my vote till I hear from you again

At 17,000 with green dinosaur look like could be done faster, you came up to him up close then start to run away from him (spending alot more time to attack that way) 99.9% of runs can't be 100% optimized.

There was some occassional lag that I think killing more enemies could have averted. Once in the stage with the flowers, once when there's too many jumping fishes on screen. Both times you jump and could probably have hit one of the enemies to reduce the lag.

While this game does have some impressive visuals, the overall action does not make for a very exciting run. There is little in this run that would make it more impressive than a regular speed run. I am sure this is pretty well optimized, but that still doesn't make the run very entertaining. I vote meh. Well played, but bad game choice.

Hi there ventuz and xoinx In regards to the way i killed the green T-Rex whilst walking away and attacking slower, that was a tactical choice it turned out he could be killed faster this way instead of jumping and attacking from behind, in front, whilst jumping. For some reason jumping and spamming would only take off one box of damage each hit, meaning i could give him 4 hits in a full jump cycle. Frames are saved by defeating him in the manner i chose .For some reason attacking him like that is the only way he loses two boxes a hit. In regards to getting hit more to save frames, i contemplated doing a test level to indeed check if it would save frames, but didnt want to make the run look too sloppy. Although during boss fights, if i needed to get hit id take the damage to save frames. From all the re-records that i went through, even though it appears he may gain a frame from getting hit, they were enough to make my insinct think differently. Final words are hope you all like the movie, put a lot of work into it, hope it makes submission so it can give the community something else to challenge an beat - its fun to make and think the game is decent enough to add to the other 8bit nes games on the site. God bless the 8-bit nes Bye for now.

I too think the green dinosaur could be taken down a bit faster, even after seeing your explanation. However I didn't notice the lag, and it was decently short, so I didn't drift off... probably a bad choice of game, but it looks well done and the boss fights are fun to watch. I vote yes, but with meh tinged edges because of the game.

This game is hard in some stages.I can still remember the BOSS in stage 3,a very huge plant who can suck the hero into her mouth and throw up the skeletons after chewing(seems the hero is very delicious to her -_-!) However, this run is very good,it makes the game look to be easy.I vote Yes. I notice there are several slope places, will it be a little faster if you take a jump at such place. But the jump may also cause a lag.I just give an suggestion, maybe it is worth to have a try:)

Im voting 'meh'. Your effort was pretty okay but the game was too slow for my taste.

Just because the game is slow for some of you're tastes, doesn't mean the published film should be kept from others. I have played this game a ton when I was little and never beat it. A speed run for it would be great.

It was well played, though I found myself skipping parts in the end. Voting yes though.

Voted No. There is nothing interesting about this game. It is just running right and occasionaly avoiding enemies. The boss fights are slow and uninteresting as well. I find this to be a poor game choice.

Hmm… I'm pretty sure I remember playing a much more interesting version of this game when I was a kid, most likely it was the Genesis version. Does anyone remember if it's as long as the SNES one? Because the NES version, albeit short, is very bad. It was played fairly good, but I couldn't help fastforwarding it due to extreme repetitiveness. Voting meh.

You didn't finish the game, since technically you don't enter your name on the high score screen, but after a brief chat on IRC its not a mandatory part of completion. About the game; my personal opinion is that its not boring, mainly because its short enough to keep my attention, but its simply not interesting and it doesn't look like you could pull off a Widget run either. I also have grave doubts about your claim of perfection, some of the boss battles were a bit meh and forward damage boosting looks like it would save time, but you very rarely choose to do it when it looks like it'll save time. I'm gonna vote 'no' on this because I don't think it could make publishable even if it is fully frame perfect.
In regards to getting hit more to save frames, i contemplated doing a test level to indeed check if it would save frames, but didnt want to make the run look too sloppy. If damage boosting saves time then its not sloppy.

Seems that most agree this isn't a good game choice for TASing. This game is quite limited. The optimal time is achieved primarily by pressing right and avoiding the occasional enemy. The strategy seems limited in the boss fights as well. There aren't interesting movements/unorthodox play/insane luck manipulation/route planning/super fast motion/game-breaking glitche/unexpected gameplay or any other key aspect for a good TAS. So while this movie may be optimized, the game doesn't make a good contribution to the site. I will reject this movie. The technical quality of the run look promising, I hope the author will endeavor to find a more suitible game choice. Best of luck.

I beg to differ on this remaining not publishable, the game still is a tool assisted speedrun where the majority of the run is made up on prescise boss fights (which take up near 25% of the gameplay mind you) I feel this should be approved.. there is a lot of effort in making this and there still is improvement for new runs..

Wow, a two-year-old submission getting bumped to argue its publishability? Don't think I've seen that happen before.

It appears someone has been reading certain topics. It actually makes it sound as if you are desperate to get a game published, geogiek. Makes you sound a bit... whiney. :(
