To bad there aren't any DS emulators out yet and even when they do come out it will be a while before they have the tools to create TAS. I wonder how you would optimize line drawing.

This is a glitch I discovered a while ago while playing around with Pictochat: Put the thumb pad down at one end of the line, then put the stylus down at the other end at the same time (which puts the "touched point" somewhere in between), and bring up the thumb pad (which moves the "touched point" to the stylus). It's an awesome way to really quickly draw lines. Now if only I had Canvas Curse...
...?

That's not a glitch, it's just a small exploit in how the touchscreen works. It would be obsolete in a TAS since you would be able to move the "stylus" infinitely fast anyway.

Kirby Canvas Curse would be in my opinion a very entertaining game to TAS at some point, and as soon as we have a DS emulator capable of making a TAS of this game on, i will give it a shot. It mainly features the touch screen, and it would be interesting to see if any glitches could be found for it (it would also just be plain cool watching the touch screen get tapped with perfect precision up to 15 times a second :)

Yeah, it would be fun to see what kind of crazy shapes you could make with the paintbrush, or try to paint minimally, making Kirby skip across dotted lines and such. And if I remember correctly, you can just tap enemies to kill them and tap Kirby to "energize" him, so this game might get pretty broken if you know exactly where to tap.

Just thought I'd add that i've worked out that a (non-broken) TAS of this game should go for roughly an hour, considering that i passed it in 1hr:24min played time when racing through the game as fast as possible. I think there may be some glitch that allows kirby to move quickly across short distances after taking damage, but ill need to wait for the emulator to have a proper look at it. But hopefully it will be fruitful and cut a decent chunk of time from the run. A 100% (250/250 medals) run would be unfortunately quite tedious as you would have to basically pass the game five times (you need to pass the game as each character to get the last 8 or so medals). An all in-game medals run might be a good second choice of run as it would probably be achievable in about 1:30 ish (but you would need to sit through the credits in the middle of it). Or alternatively it could be a 239/250 medals run, i.e. all medals except ones for passing the game as other characters and the subgame medals. Or a 242/250 which would be the same as previous, except including passing each of the subgames. I'll definately be doing an any% run when i can but any opinions on other run types that might be good to do?

One and a half hours when tassing? It didn't seem like that long to me.

To do an all in game medals run you would have to pass the game as kirby, then unlock meta knight to get the second medal in Mad Mechanism If it was in real-time and not just in-game time then i could see that kind of run going for up to 1:30 It was just a rough estimate :)

I just had a quick play through and changed my mind, to get something that actually looks optimal (as opposed to very fast) would require some very precise stylus work and a brutal number of rerecords. I don't have the time nor skill to pull off a passable quality TAS of this one. From what i've seen so far, it seems that kirby goes fastest when going through drawn loop-da-loops drawn in such a fashion that kirby just passes straight through them, but still gets a boost. Also tapping kirby every 4 or 5 frames seems to be faster than tapping kirby every alternate frame. Anyway, if you are after a real challenge/test of your TASing/optimisation abilities, then this is the game for you.

honestly, i'd be content with a TAS of paint roller. the hardest difficulty on that was completely ridiculous.

Super Princess Peach is a bitch and comicalflop needs his daily dose of touch screen absuive-ness, so I made an almost optimized 100% 1-1 TAS. I think that the fastest way of travel is actually Wheel on the star lines (that's what I call them), followed by Wheel and then dashing on the star lines, so I'll make a new one traveling the lines to see if it is faster. But, yeah, here you go. http://www.mediafire.com/?mteqjqmjkk2 <- Correct Link

arflech is right. My touch-fetish won't be fulfilled until you fix that.

Encode: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?undkmmmdlyx So, I watched it, and uh, I don't quite think the game met my expectations. I dunno, I guess Kirby moves slower when you multi-tap on him than I first thought. So here's some suggestions on improvements. -Find the X speed address; it looks like even when spamming the boost on kirby, his speed varies; you might find it more frustrating, but more optimal to maximize his speed per tap of the stylus. -Use the rainbow lines to make Kirby go over more enemies. The other Kirby games with wheel use jump to go over enemies; you plowed through every single one. Or, perhaps tap on an enemy enough times that it bounces into the air and over Kirby as he wheels underneath. regardless of what you do, you need to hit enemies and other obstacles less. -I get the feeling when you collect the last medal, that you can place that rainbow line closer to Kirby and make him turn around sooner, or create a half loop-de-loop in order to rockateer him in the other direction without losing wheel. If such a thing is possible. -1 LOL?? That's it? You have the power to draw words, use it to the fullest!

DeSmuME's memory address thing is confusing, but I'll keep trying. Or I'll get gocha to do it :P

Hmm..... I forgot about doing that XD. I managed to do it in a different level un-assisted, but I wonder if there's enough space to do it. Plus, with that small space I think that once the loop curved upwards, Kirby slam into it anyway, since the game only let' Kirby follow a line if it's twords the bottom of him, but we'll make it work. I hope.

Like I said, I did this knowing I was going to do it over anyway, and don't worry, I have something planned ;)

You should write a short story in the background while TASing the game. :)

I think this game has a lot of entertainment potential, speed-wise it probably won't be mind blowing but still decent. Also, spamming kirby's spin dash got annoying very quickly :P

Thanks! Well a few things to note: I learned (during my brief playaround with this game) that tapping kirby as fast as possible doesn't translate to kirby achieving the highest possible speed. You seem to realise this though by the second level, do you know what the optimal tapping speed is yet? Also drawing loop-da-loops will cause kirby to get a boost which i think is slightly faster (obviously we need to find out what the x-speed address is), it would be worth checking. On level 3 it is worth noting that hitting anything will cause kirby to slow down (except for when he's ice/fire/lightning/rock) so you might be able to get a faster time as a wheel flying through the air, avoiding most obstacles (unless you want to kill anything in your path for the sake of entertainment). And as comicalflop mentioned, it is definately possible to turn the wheel around with half loops, to stop kirby flying upwards afterwards, try drawing a second line under kirby after he(it?) gets off of the loop.

It doesn't seem to. I can access the site itself, for example when i click on the link i get the appropriate site, which is fine, but i will be stuck with the 'Processing download request . .' message and never able to download the file. Attempting to 'Save to My Files' will result in a 'Working..please wait..' message stuck on the screen. At a guess, its my firewall not allowing the download, i'll have a look at it later. Also (back on topic) are you really going to be doing an all medals run girfanatic? do you realise what a massive run that would be? We are talking 3+ hours easily unless you find some major game breaking glitches.

The MediaFire links didn't work for me until I wend into the address bar and added a space at the end of the url. Will edit with my opinion after I've downloaded/watched. Edit: Yeah. To be honest, that looked very unoptimized. I'm pretty sure you can go much faster by making loops. Also, you should tap the yellow star boxes before Kirby hits them, that way he won't slow down. Still though, I do see potential in this game. I just think it'll be one of the harder games to TAS, possibly one of the hardest, due to the "looseness" of the stylus input and how the game character reacts to the lines. If you know what I mean.

Keep in mind that the rainbow meter runs out; it's not infinite, and you need to wait a while before it refills. And, that precious resource will be needed to save time, draw ledges/slopes, and create shortcuts, so you're limited there as well, not to mention spam tapping Kirby when he doesn't have the wheel will prevent you from drawing. I thought it was only the explodish boxes (with the bomb symbol) that you could tap to remove them? Also, yes, the physics of the game (creating new routes using the rainbow lines) will be incredibly complicated. This is probably going to be one of those games where some different strategy is going to be inevitably faster per room. ThMarksman: does an all medals run really have that much detouring to collect everything to make it 3+ hours?
