The RNG changes when a menu is open, which makes the manipulation pretty hard and very lenghty because you something have to way a lots of frame to accomplish what you want. I think there's a couple of WIP that you can download and see how it's done. What's the difference between U and J ? I know that J can open chest, and that I think you can lower magic damage with a trick. But other than that, is there any difference ? You should do a WIP of the first battle and see that you think about it. It will probably be a very very very hard game to TAS. Anyway, Good luck, and I hope to see a WIP of this soon :P
IIRC the RNG in the J version was different than the U. Also there is a very easy way to never take any damage just by holding right and c when an enemy attacks, as well as the reduced magic damage. There are rumors of being able to max stats with a glitch by leveling up under the effect of the muddle 2 spell. I have checked and the glitch to move outside of the normal movement range also still exists in the J version. Right now I can't post a WIP but I'll try and get one up of at least the first battle or so tonight.

I've already tested - the RNG is exactly the same for both J and U versions. Its even located at the exact same location in memory. I've even searched the entire code of the rom. It is only changed by 1 function. There is a ton of information on how the RNG works in this thread and the Shining Force 1 thread. I was planning on getting back to this run soon. Hoping to have this and SFCD done this year. Both games work the same, and have the same RNG address... again.

Awesome! I really hope you do, this is one of my all-time favorite games and I would love to see it abused the way you did SFI

The run might be more entertaining, but it will be quite different from Shining Force I because the way the RNG works. And I think that the enemy AI is better. And unless there's a boss on the map, you must kill every enemies, you can't enter a town to finish the battle. Also, there will be some damage and probably some casualties because of the way the RNG works. It wont be a no damage run. It will be fun to see what will be the final team. The planning will be different because you will have to kill more enemies, so the force might be bigger. Overall, it will be an awesome TAS, and there's the possibility of having to completely different team in the end depending on the strategy. I can't wait to see this game done. I think I'll replay the game on PS3 this weekend :)

All of the emulators used on this site were modified, almost all of them by people on this site; look around more to find what you seek: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7465 Specifically the state of the art on Windows is here: http://gens-rerecording.googlecode.com/files/Gens11a.zip

Unless it's luck manipulation, you moved Sarah over a character for no apparent reason on battle 5 You also manipulated a way for Bowie to block the attack of the knight (with the spear) but he finish the battle without getting hit. Is it necessary ? Your luck manipulation is really great. I like what you did with Sarah when it took a couple of seconds to manipulate something. It's good looking :P This walk a square away trick will prove to be useful. Good job :P

Not entirely. I try and maximize levels when possible. The first 11 battles are mostly 'kill all enemies.' That pretty much forces my hand, in having to level.

I was just showing off there. Its rare to be able to move over a character without having to double back. Here is a new one There is about 6-8 minutes of unavoidable talking during the tower escape cutscene. Ugh. Hopefully, after battle 10, the game will start to speed-up. Already 1 hour in.[/url]

Do you know who you will get at Creed's house ? And I don't know if it's useful, but you can give a centaur a special item to promote them to flying character, maybe it could speed up the game. But the item is pretty far in the game. After Creed, when you blow up the path to the cave in the mountain near New Granseal. Two castler later. It might be late in the game thought. Are you planning on getting the Rumming Pimento item ? Description : Use: Permanent MOV Increase of 2 Use on: Anyone in the Force who has been promoted already Find it in: Barrel in a pub at Hassan, Underground in Moun You would be able to give peter an extreme distance of flight. Which could save a lot of time. Peter + Power Ring + 9 move = Killing Machine.

Both Pimentos and the Running Ring are 100% guaranteed pick-ups. Chester got too weak too fast, so I think I will go with Elric in Creeds. With Jaro, I'll have 2 7 MOV flyer with Halberds. I'm pretty sure, at this point, I'll want 4 mithril for Gisarme, 2 Halberds, and an Atlas Axe (for Lemon). The first Pimento won't be used on who you think it will. After I finish the Kraken battle, it will become obvious. Here is a new version. The next battle is one i've been looking forward to. I'm pretty sure it won't go down the way anyone thinks it will. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/696070122/Shining%20Force%20II%20%28U%29%20%5B!%5D.gmv

You are using it on Luke? I guess the option for sword upgrades makes sense.

Hum do you plan on having Slade on your team ? If so, you might want to be create his sword with instead death chance. It might be faster in the later battle if you can kill the enemies in one hit. You could keep the DarkSword for Lemon no ? Even if it's cursed, it might be usefull. You may want to take a look at the cursed weapon, if you can manipulate the fact that you will attack and not being stunt, if might be useful. I'm pretty sure you will keep Luke, even if he sucks hard, you need all the flying characters you can to go faster.

Quick warning about using Lemon: I've heard a lot of people complain about not being able to equip things to him when playing the ROM. I don't know if it's just people with bad dumps or what, but you might want to look into it.

So, Luke is already dead. His attack power sucked too much, and the force that I stick with is too quickly out-leveling... everyone. Also, the Atlas Axe is the 2nd most-powerful mithril axe - but it has +1 to MOV. Gisarme is Slade's weapon that has a 1-hit kill possibility, and also his strongest weapon. If you watch the WIP, he is by far the most valuable force member until the Kraken battle. He will be quickly overtaken, in value. Also, the Lemon glitch... that's interesting... I'm worried about that now; however I may not even need him. I'm noticing that a smaller force pays off. Sticking with 4-5 characters (excluding Sarah!) seems more optimal.

Having a smaller force should be better, you don't have to attack more than a couple of ennemy each turns, and you don't have to move 6-7 other useless characters. I known that Luke was a pretty useless character, even with the power ring, he sucks :P There's still skreech that can fly, you should get him near when you get Taya, but you have to do something special after you see Volcanon. The glitch of Lemon only happen with Gens, but not with Kega. Hey it's not the Atlas Axe that have MOV+1 it's the Ground Axe Atlas Axe GLDT BRN RDBN +35 9600G Mithril Weapon Blaze 3 Repair Cost: 2400 Ground Axe GLDT BRN RDBN +39 MOV +1 10000G Mithril Weapon

So, the Kraken and Taros battles are completed. I'll post them soon. These are the first set of battles that look much like the battles in SF1. The Taros battle, in particular, took quite a bit of time to get right. I saved a minute over my first iteration. Hopefully you will all enjoy them.

Looking forward to them! I'm curious, why are you keeping Chester and Sarah alive since you aren't using them? Is it because their movement sucks so bad that you can't get them close enough to the battle to get them killed, or do you have plans for them? Can't wait to see Taros.

Chester, Gerhalt, Luke, and Jaha should have all been killed off faster. If I ever re-do this run, I'd probably kill them off a battle or 2 sooner. Sarah, on the other hand, serves possibly the most important role in the force. Since she is guaranteed to be in last place for every 'battle round', when her turn ends/menu closes, it selects the randomization for the next battle round. She will be alive, at level 1, for the entirety of the run. Technically, I could allow someone who 'falls behind' in levels to take over her position. However, that requires more manipulation than keeping her alive does. Her low, low agility and relative uselessness (as a healer) in a TAS makes her perfect for this job. The necessity of manipulating turn order will be very apparent once I'm home and able to post that WIP. I'll youtube those battles, hopefully, so ZeXr0 can watch them. Also, I'll post some Screenshots of my Lua scripts in action.
