this is how imagine you now, after you played this game 584 times:
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Alright, I'm done! A sub-10 minute speedrun goal has been accomplished! Would have improved upon your time, Kuwaga, had I not been so cautious at the last boss, which killed me the previous time. I was lucky enough to meet an alien in the caves, so I had a free jetpack for the rest of the game.

I was actually surprised to get a sub 9 time as my first sub 10 one. I wasn't too cautious with the last boss though. Used some bombs, some ropes and let it stomp at the same place as often as possible. Congratulations btw! ;)

I recorded a failed sub-5:30 speedrun attempt where I miserably died on the last boss. I'll upload another one when I hit sub-5 and complete the game in the same run.

Still a heck of a lot better than I could do, even given the awesome luck with that shopkeeper. Nice run.

Just got 6:31 with AWFUL luck. I lost a shotgun when flipping over the ledge in caves, a jetpack was lost to an explosion, had only 4 bombs at the boss, and my only items were climbing gloves and spring shoes. I'm fairly confident I can push it sub-5.

Wow, good job! ^^ Especially at 3:33 with the spike trap. I didn't know you could do that. o.o

You can also trigger arrow traps that are above you when you're on a ladder, but that requires pixel precision, and takes more time than is feasible in a speedrun. I've very satisfied with the result, though. I could probably try to push it under 4:30, but gambling for jetpack in the first two levels is a pain I'd rather do without.

Ok, I decided to do some low% speedruns, but one of them resulted in a 4:32 any%. I recorded it just in case, but I think I'll be able to push the time further (I had a lame boss fight, only got Jetpack on stage 5, and had no scepter). Goals for sub-4:30 speedrun are following. Items. 1. Getting Jetpack before area 2. 2. Getting Compass and Shotgun before area 3. Time. Area 1 — under 0:50 (best was 0:32, has to be very lucky without items). Area 2 — under 1:55 (best was 1:32). Area 3 — under 2:25 (best was 2:09). Area 4 — under 3:00 (best was 2:53). The first run under 4:30 will be uploaded for viewing pleasure. :) [EDIT] Just had another run, 4:35. Finished area 3 in 2:09 without Compass, wow. [EDIT2] Edited with new best times for future reference.

I remember viewing a video of a sub 7 minute run using only the basic whip.
No.

You probably mean this run. In my attempts I've been reaching area 3 in under 3 minutes, so it should be pretty easy to go sub-6 minutes low%.

Guys, you won't believe me. :) I just finished an any% in 3:53! Everything went almost perfectly, I didn't get the compass, but had awesome level layouts in most cases. Enjoy!

Sick! I was going to post something about how I think sub-4 would easily be possible with a bit of luck after your sub 5 run, but decided not to because it would have sounded very anti-climatic. And now it turns out I was right. XD Now, seeing your run, sub 3:30 also seems possible. You haven't been trying for too long to achieve that time after all. Good job on 6, bad luck with 11 and sheer pwnage in the last few levels! Also cool to see the final boss getting owned! ^^

Man, that business on level 13 with the two slider traps was nuts. Nice reflexes there. And an awesome overall run. Pity about that dark level. My only concern is that the game will change enough by v1.0 that your speedrun will be invalidated. Say, if the jetpack were made impossible to get before level 8 or something. Or, y'know, if the final boss is made harder.

If the final boss is made faster, then all the better, heh. Possible improvements to this run: 1) getting Compass (would have saved 7–15 seconds depending on the level it's found on); 2) not getting a dark level (would have saved 3–4 seconds); 3) getting jetpack in level 1 (would have saved 2–4 seconds); 4) better boss fight (probably about 6–9 seconds); 5) better level layout — I'd rate mine with 8.5 out of 10 (10+ seconds). In total, practical limit for this game seems to be at around 3:10–3:20. I MAY try it again, but not earlier than I finish a low% run and Derek finishes 1.0.

Oh wow, it really does look like Dangerous Dave. It even has the jetpack and the strange, horizontal hallways connecting the levels. I'll be sure to check this out. Too bad it's Windows-only.

Well, you guys wouldn't believe. Yesterday I started running this game again, now on version 0.99.9B (man, Derek sure takes his time to roll the version number over). My estimated goal for a low%, as you remember, was sub-5:30. I just made a run that had me gameover to a VERY unfortunate clipping death at the last boss at around 5:08-5:09. I would have reached the goal if not for that dumb shit. If anyone cares, I'll YouTube it. The run itself isn't on par with my any%; area 4 is played rather conservatibely since I had no HP left. [EDIT] Wait a second! While cutting the video I realized I miscalculated: I died at around 4:51, which would have otherwise made the run nearly 40 seconds faster than I had originally planned! The new goal is sub-4:30, which is definitely realistic in light of this attempt. I'll keep trying at it, recently it became hard to bring myself not to run the game! Also, got a 1:32 upon finishing area 2 for the first time in one of the attempts, that's crazy unrealistic for a low%.

I would have done the exact same thing in that situation if it comforts you. xD Except that I'd probably never get that far in the first place on my current skill level. Also, since you seem to like KMFDM a lot, I think I'm going to recommend Schwein and their album Schweinstein to you. The album scores very high on the weirdness-scala for me and that's why I kind of like it, even though I feel some songs could be catchier and less repetitive, but I think that when listening to KMFDM too. My favourite track on it is actually the remix one, so yea, it's not the best album in the world, but whatever.
