Great improvement indeed. My only fear is that as there are so many of them that it may become even harder to complete the new 120 star run, let alone hex in the stars you already finished.
Thats exactly what I was thinking; with all of us sm64 TASers, Robz's work is not going to get any easier. Especually lately, since there have been a good number of new tricks and such.

Rob_z has no work left, he dropped the run a month or so ago.

I would LOVE to do a 120 star speedrun. Hum, but I still need some practice. Maybe I'll attempt one. :|

That's too sad to hear. Maybe you guys can work out a collaboration for this run and start off with his old status (can he provide you with his latest m64 file?)?

I thought I might get you guys organised... I started up an SVN repository, which seems to be the best way to start community based projects. If anyone would like to contribute to the run, PM me, and I'll add you as a contributor. http://code.google.com/p/supermario64-120star-tas/

learn to grammar. Anyway, the m64 file is binary based, which makes it a little harder to hex edit than text based movie files, but it's definitely possible, and sm64 is very sync robust as well. Even lag doesn't affect the game's ability to sync due to the constant in-game time between frames regardless of real time differences. As long as you have a reference frame that is somehow distingushable from other frames, you should be able to easily hex the movie file. Some stars, however, will not be able to be hexed in because of randomness, and many tools (like TASedit) can stuff up your movie file, by misjudging the number of V/I's.

English isn't my first language. I make big efforts, so, please pardon me if I put a random "is" after my sentence.

I don't often post, but this was incredibly rude, I think you've been here long enough to realize that the forum does have some people that do not have English as their primary language.

If that was the nahoc I know (Nahoc10 on youtube) then I had no Idea English was your second language. I have never seen Nahoc make a grammatically incorrect sentence before, so I assumed this was a typo or mistake as such. If this is a different Nahoc, then I am terribly sorry. EDIT: If this is the Nahoc I know, then I'm also sorry.

But how does this community TAS project work, andymac ? I know you started it and got the "Blast To The Stone Pillar" star but, as you said, it didn't beat Grokken's run nor Mr_Robert_Z's run. So I have three questions : Is Robert still working on his run ? Could we hex in the stars that he made and that aren't obsolete ? Do we really need those MHS and speed adresses things for this 120 stars run ?

I assume people will TAS stars either individially or compete for each one ,then hex them assuming it's not a star which can be effected by randomness.

Probably not

Already answered

Unless you think a horse and cart is faster than a porsche.

Robz is no longer working on his run You definitely need the MHS values to make an optimal TAS. Even then it's difficult to optimise some things. Until we can meet sometime on IRC, for the moment, if you do a star, just PM me a link. To get on IRC click this link, then type in "nahoc" or whatever for your nickname and "tasvideos" or "sm64" for channels. As for hexing, I'm sure that frames can be saved off robz's WIP, so I would advise against it. As for "blast to the stone pillar" I know that there are at least 6 frames that can be saved off mine. I only realised later that I could save them. This was because of a counterintuitive technique that I hadn't considered. That said, it was a sloppy blj, and I only manipulated my initial speed to 15.7. In contrast, I manipulated my initial speed on the JRB stairs to 15.97 (the highest you can get is 15.99..). I was going to redo anyway. I'm pretty confident that 12.50 is possible.

You'll need to teach me how MHS works, then, andymac. :) Edit : Nvm, I just watched bobmario511's tutorial, it's pretty simple.

you have to start descending before you can do the butt stomp. Meaning I can have much less speed without losing any time for the blj. I can do one less blj, this will save 2 frames. The other frames can be saved by starting the blj further up the cannon, meaning less air time.

So instead of going as fast as possible, you need to be in a descending state on the stone pillar as soon as possible... makes sense to me. But the question arises whether this applies elsewhere in the run. Where certain conditions need to be met before the next movement can be applied. Although, I'm sure others have considered possibilities I couldn't even imagine.

Kyman found that it's faster to side-BLJ into JRB, andymac. It saves about... well... some time. :P You'll need to re-do this.

It saves I believe over half a second. Also why aren't you guys using Rob_z's route?

True, we should start with BitDW red coins, then PSS, then move up to JRB.
