I have beat this game so many times (15+), but I never thought to do a speed run. This is by far my favorite N64 game

i'm finishing watching it, but why does he leave in so many mistakes? i mean, he could do so much better if he would simply redo his mistakes (part 6, where he shoves that block just not far enough, or falls off the vains by the spiders, for instance) thats a real pity imo plus the moving around (rolling) all the time gets boring (luckily i can fastforward now :). yes i know its mandatory, i had to do it too, and much more, when i played it myself (i obviously didnt follow the fastest route first time ;) its a nice run, pity for the mistakes....

he had to do in one go, so he couldn't fix the mistakes.... there's no re-recording

Hmm, I wonder if this was that file my brother tried downloading but couldn't watch because of some "class" error... I've also seen a video for a Deku Tree speedrun with "director's commentary" on it. It's pretty helpful for doing your own speedrun.

Hey, author of the speed run here: It was a single run, no re-records. If I ever did another, it would be segmented in accordance with SDA's rules (to just get the fastest time possible). I also authored the Deku Tree video with commentary, but it was so bad in terms of what I can do now (sub 6 mins), I removed it.

well it was nice to watch once, few mistakes made for a single run, fast route taken, cutting edges etc. but there arent many major shortcuts taken, except perhaps using the green spell to warp back a few times. and skipping the eye of truth, which might make a few people wonder what thats all about. plus you're not getting epona. those are the major items i guess. the boring part about it is the movement though, there is a lot of rolling which is plain boring. oh yeah, impressive shadow fight :p how do you do that instant swirl glitch anyways?

It isn't a glitch, it's the Quick Spin Attack (told to you by the Great Fairy on top of Death Mountain). Also, I don't get what you mean by "major shortcuts". I took all but 2 - one in the Fire Temple and one in the Forest, which involve Farore's Wind. If you mean glitches - I can't use those for my runs, against the rules.

That would be it.

Yeah, you can do an instant spin by spinning your control stick and pressing B at the same time, I think, but a lot of players don't bother to learn it when they can charge up a spin by just holding B anyway.

I keep trying to do it, but get no luck. I keep running into the enemies once I've failed as well. I'm no good at spinning the control stick, not on Mario Party and certainly not on Zelda.

I was praticing it just yesterday. It seems as though you need to spin quickly and push B almost after spinning, and I don't think you need to spin a whole 360.

How I do it: Spin the stick around all the way one full time, and anytime after hit B - and continue swirling the stick as fast as you can while pressing B when the stick is at the "top" - pushed up. You start your rotations from there, at least I do - before performing the spin attack.

Oh, but I liked that. You should make more with commentary. That first level video was helpful for my current "minimalist quest" where I get as little in the game as possible.

Most of us already knew about that, especially since it was floating around the IRC for a week. Any reason you posted this?
