I think a dedicated topic for this is a good idea, for the newcomers/newbies who don't check the wiki. My suggestions are: SNES Run Saber: A straightfoward Strider clone; optimization comes solely from killing enemies in good time and moving quickly. SNES Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: A straightforward beat-'em-up; optimization comes from killing enemies efficiently. That's all I have right now; I'll trawl my ROMs folders for some more easy-to-TAS games tonight.

Mr. Chins Gourmet Paradise (Game Boy) is so simple that even an idiot like me can touch it. =P The goal is in your face, luck manipulation is potentially simple (If not time consuming) and is simple to optimize. Plus have some unusual collision glitches that literally make you invincible.

Flashback needs an SNES run. It's almost entirely planning, since your movement options are precanned so all you really have to worry about is rolling on the first possible frame.

What is the purpose of these suggestions? Suggesting games to learn to use the TASing tools, or suggestions for games that can be TASed by newcomers (to be submitted at the site?)?

To learn about TASing I suggest taking a simple game yes, but one you're very familiar with and that you enjoy a lot. This will give you motivation. I think that's better than searching for other people's suggestions, unless you can't figure out exactly what "simple" means from a TAS perspective.

That one. The two I suggested in particular really only require frame advance; I've been working on both in ZSNES off and on for the better part of two years, and have a Run Saber run published.

To learn the TASing tools, these suggestions might be handy... but I think for making a really good TAS, you must love the game, or at least the result of the work you put into it.

I can suggest NES Legacy of the Wizard. The movement mechanics are very simple -- no acceleration to worry about. The challenges are all in route planning and luck manipulation, oh and a teensy bit of boss fighting. I did this game for my 1st 2 publications and it was very instructive; I didn't even use memory watch or any advanced techs. I also know of some further improvements if anyone is interested.

What is Shining Force: RotDD doing on there? DarkKobold has had enough trouble (Well, more improving his submission multiple times, but you get my point) on the Mega Drive edition alone, I wouldn't imagine a new guy handling the more complex remake. =\

I always thought that SNES Mechwarrior 3050 was a great way to practice simple skills associated with tool assisted work. It is open mission/objective based, so planning is involved. Ammo for better guns is limited (not by a lot, though), so refills and evasion tactics need to be used. Memory watcher can be used to find and track enemy HP levels. You can get a bit more control from the mech if you try switching to 2P mode, which then opens the door for people to try two inputs at once. Etc etc.
