I think Master Quest is an N64 ROM played by an on-disc emulator, but I'm not sure. At least I figure that's why that four-game collection picked the NES games and the N64 games, so they'd get four games in while only having to fit two emulators on there.

MQ originally came out for the gamecube. I would know, until a few weeks ago I had the game. It was a remake of OoT and had harder levels, though the graphics were the same at OoT, the controls were more adapted to be played on the GC. It came with The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker when you ordered it. If that is the case, should we be doing the GC games on the GC emulators?

If that is the case, then is RBA possible for Master Quest?Just because it is a OoT remake does not mean it has everything OoT has in terms of glitches etc. Nintendo might have gone in and cleaned up the game a little bit. You should find this out before you spend time doing it for nothing. Secondly, whats the point of doing Master Quest anyway? The only thing that is different about the game is the dungeons, and they are just a bit harder. Is it really necessary?

What would be the point of MQ BA anyway? The only difference between normal OoT and MQ are the dungeons, as you said. And since you wont finish one, the runs would be quite similar

So the current any% run is now pretty much obsolete? I guess it was a bad call to wait to complete it :P Nice job though, that's a very nice trick!

hmm, I improved the rupee route of the old TAS by 3 seconds back in july already and discovered a new way to escape the forest, so it was obsolete at that time already ;)

We still haven't settled on a new route, and I guess this will no doubt change it. Firstly you must successfully prove you can cross Gerudo bridge as AL without ISG or hookshot. Waits for someone to find a tecktite hover method into the pond. I'm not quite sure what the best method for getting 60r is in Kokiri apart from maybe additionally getting the blue ruppee in the shop and the one behind Mido's house. The YL route will be something like 1. Get sword + Shield + Stick 2. Old Forest Escape 3. SS to ZR using Peehat 4. Get Bean and return to HF 5. Water ESS to Kakariko (By this time it will nearly be night time) 6. Get Bottle and return to HF 7. Skip Owl, Water ESS, then use skullkid to SS to LH 8. Plant Bean 9. ?

The point of a MQ BA is when SWordless, aka and bloob finish theirs for OoT, Me and link will still have the best time for MQ.

hmm, 60 rupees lemme think. I got 50 rupees in my rupee route. you can get the 5 rupees from the platform jumping outside the shop twice and simply get the 5 rupees before sidehopping to the vines I'm currently testing all 4 possible new routes, btw

Don't go by a route that should work, you go by a route that WILL work. You obviously need more testing to be done. As for the game choice, I don't know if the run will be accepted. As everyone said before, its the same game, harder levels, for that reason, it makes it a bit of a poor game choice. What happened to the OoT run you were doing? you shaved about 14 seconds off of Bloobs run and then you stopped. If I were you, i'd wither finish it, or go ahead and TAS the Powerpuff girls. Which I think is for GB? EDIT: I know this post was sounding a little mean, but I had no intention of it being that way. All I intended to do was to say not to give up on the OoT run and to keep with it, it was clear you were going to beat the record. TASing is difficult. I know it came out a bit harsh, and I'm sorry if it came out that way. I wanted to try and say what Kirk was saying, basically just don't TAS a game for the record.

Please stop trying to put me down. We are CONFIDENT that the route will work. It is a different game and therefore we will have the record for MQ. It is a different game but has the same shit. We are not doing the dungeons. We are doing a RBA which involves NO DUNGEONS. The OoT run i was doing was NOT OPTIMIZED AT ALL. I learned how to optimize alot better and therefore can shave some MORE SECONDS OF THE RUN I AM DOING. And the powerpuff girls is for N64. I know what im doing if you would like to help than help I DO NOT APPRECIATE NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND COMMENTS THAT MAKE ME FEEL LIKE SHIT.

Hrm...how does MQ differ from the original game outside the dungeons? I only played it once, and that was years ago, but IIRC outside the dungeons isn't it identical to the original version?

More than likely the categories for N64 Zelda runs will be as follows: OoT any% (RBA etc.) OoT "all dungeons, etc." (no RBA) OoT 100% (probably if someone decides to do it) MQ "all dungeons" MM any% MM 100% MAYBE a MQ 100%, but it's a stretch. MAYBE a MM minimal game time, but I doubt it. The "all dungeons" is a bit trivial at this point because MrGrunz has managed to clip most of the boss rooms, but that is for discussion elsewhere. From what I've heard MQ any% is essentially the same run as OoT any%, because Bottle Adventure works the same. You'll notice we only have one of Pokemon Red and Blue published at this site. This is because Red and Blue will have almost exactly the same run, just on a different version. We have a Pokemon Yellow run because it demonstrates a radically different glitch. If the OoT and MQ any% are essentially the same run on "different games", both will not be accepted. As proved by JNX's and PDot's runs, if you cannot match the current quality standard for a game. It simply isn't going to be accepted. It isn't about "Setting the record for Master Quest". It is about producing a run that meets the current quality standards which have been set by Swordless, AKA, Bloob, MrGrunz, and others. It is NOT about "having the best time." It is about demonstrating the best quality of a run. I have not viewed your runs, but I just want to add that Bloob's all dungeons run does not have the pause fix, so any time you "gained" on his run, should be translated accordingly. You are not beating him by 5 seconds every time he pauses. The run is simply 5 seconds faster due to a technicality. If you gain 5 seconds on a pause and lose 2 seconds on optimization, you aren't actually producing a better run than his. A publishable run should beat or match his quality everywhere applicable for it to be "faster" and publishable. While it is good that you are constantly trying to improve, it is not good that you are trying to find the fastest ways of getting your own personal published record. There are no shortcuts in TASing, you just have to be persistent until you can match the quality standards. Obviously Ocarina of Time is a very difficult game to TAS very well, as most members of this site can't even TAS to the quality standards set in place. So my suggestion is to keep practicing in OoT until you can match the standards, or find another game. None of this is meant to condemn your efforts, I'm just trying to give you the big picture of what I (and many others) tend to look for in a publishable run. If you want to make a run ignoring what I've listed, no one is going to stop you or condemn you. It just probably won't get published here. We don't publish records, we publish quality.

There really isn't any difference outside dungeons. From what I can make of it, he just wants credit for doing a game even though it would basically mean it's the exact same thing. It makes no sense, and nobody in their right mind could think of such a thing. Arguments for J vs. U make more sense.

here is what we have so far http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1457879646/OoTBA.m64 We will have the best 'Quality' and best 'time'. Here is our route. We have thrown ideas back and forth and this route is not set in stone. 1. Get sword by regular rupee route 2. Get shield by regular rupee route 3. Ess out of the forest 5. SS off peehat to zora river. 6. Obtain 10r from the bushes. 7. Use Mrgrunz's boulder skip and get beans. 8. Sidehop to peehat and SS to a grotto for 20r 9. Go to Lake Hylia 10. Plant bean and play fisherman game and get gold scale 11. Show letter to zora king 12. Take owl to hyrule once it is am 13. Collect 40r from the chains. 14. DoT skip and become adult. 15. Go To Kakoriko town 16. Go to graveyard and get shield. 17. Get bugs from the kakoriko town. Thats what we have so far and it is not Set in stone we are in the process of brainstorming.

That means that not every game will have a TAS published for it. Some game are just plain boring, and can not make it to the front page because of that. Even if the TAS is perfect, it can be rejected. If there's no major difference between OoT and MQ, then MQ won't be published.

How much do the dungeons impact your route, though? MQ seems ideally-suited for an all-dungeons run, since that would highlight the differences between OoT and MQ. If you do RBA, then your run will look almost identical to the OoT RBA run currently being made by some very experienced TASers. That will make it difficult to justify publishing it in addition to that run; in all probability your submission would be rejected.

Look, do whatever you want, but don't expect people to necassarily accept your run on TASvideos. I'm just warning you, but if you really want to do an RBA run on MQ then go ahead. I won't stop you, and nether should anyone else for that matter.

They are working on this game, but they are in the process of testing routes, I think. Don't worry synx, you'll see a run while in your lifetime.
