An improvement is an improvement. And 3 minutes is a pretty significant margin for a normal speedrun to beat a TAS. Not that it matters, since the new TAS will completely blow that out of the water.

Hm... 3:17... at 60 FPS (Majora's runs at 20 on Mupen for some odd reason, but I've noticed every third frame actually plays sound or for that matter even advances the video at all) that's 11,820 frames. Even the author said he had a few mistakes that wouldn't be there in a TAS...

The answer is yes; I remember there was a period of several months during which the SDA record for OoT was faster than the published TAS, and given the speed improvements found since then I wouldn't be surprised to see that situation happen again.

Indeed, it's totally cyclical. A TAS pushes the speedrun limits, then the newly shortened route leads to better real-time runs, which continue to get shorter until they beat the published TAS. Then a new TAS is published, starting the cycle anew. The circle of life. This of course, doesn't happen to games where most of what is done simply CAN'T be done in a real-time run. Then the TAS reigns supreme.

I'm actually pretty convinced, that the new MM TAS will never get beaten by a non-TAS run in the future, because a TAS is normally around 10-15 minutes quicker than a non-TAS run. that means, that we had to figure out stuff, that saves 15 minutes off the run, which is pretty unlikely we've pretty much pushed the game to its limits. of course, there are small timesavers left to discover, but that should be all only thing, that could possible happen once, is an all temples skip, but I doubt, that we'll discover something like this

We're still waiting on that ActRaiser improvement too. It's only been 2 years since I beat OgreSlayer's time...

Btw. it's not like this comes as a suprise to us. Jijos route is heavily based on our TAS-route and we helped him planing here and there. We also saw this run when it was being made, through live streaming. ;)

Eh, I can agree with that. There does seem to be a critical point when a TAS becomes so far beyond a real-time run it's no longer in a position to catch up. This might be the TAS that does that for MM. Maybe not, though.

unless of course new glitches are discovered, a new route is uncovered and there is a a new sequence break, then yes, but then the TAS will beat it again

Just tried sequence breaking by only freeing one giant. (you need one to learn Oath to Order, of course) Turns out you *can* play the Oath to Order and *can* get the giant to come, but the moon doesn't stop. Will try with two and three giants and see if that works. lol, not only did the bad ending not finish, but for some reason Project64 gave an exception error... I have found something that may speed up the water hopping portions as a Deku Scrub though (if there are any left with new TAS runs): Spinning off the ledge causes you to hop forward at the same speed you spun with. (sorta like the shield/bomb trick only forward instead) I'm sure it's been noticed before, but just in case it hasn't... And looking at the SDA video, I see a good few minutes of improvement that are just due to human error... I could easily see this end up at close to 1:45 if not 1:30 TAS'ed...

The programmers would have been really stupid if they made it that easy. Less than 4 giants can't hold the moon. End of story. And yes we know that Deku Water umps are faster if you do them out of a spin. But out of a sidehop is even a little bit faster than that, so that is used in the TAS.
