Yes, I just saw it. It's incredibly faster than all those before it. Saw lots of time savers I hadn't thought about. There's some things I was thinking might be able to make it faster though. Like in top row of brinstar getting hit by the flying tube bug instead of using a bomb to boost. I was thinking this could be used in norfair at least 1 time too. I think I might be onto something with the morph jump out of icebeam. I'm pretty sure I did this on the real console and never on an emulator... I was going to try it out today but I can't find my NES power adapter for the life of me. It was packed away in great haste when moving out 3 years ago, might not even be with me now. :( maybe someone else can test on a real NES? to do the morph jump, press down then up quickly, immediately followed by pressing and holding jump. Takes some practice but I can get a good one over half the time now.

He means "morph jump out of the Brinstar Ice Beam area/pit."

I really think it's the NES/cartridge difference between the emulator/rom. This would finally solve the mystery. Could it be that FCEUX just doesn't emulate exactly the same? maybe this would also explain the rare TMNT glitches/tricks people have seen on a real NES but never an emu.

Ordered a NES power adapter, should be here by friday, and then I'm really hoping I can make a video of this trick actually working. This will bring up a lot of questions if I can make such a video.

No dice. This one really has me stumped. Metroid has some very strange things about it, maybe there's an explanation. There is a SLIGHT chance I was delusional as well. I really just have no answer now, I'd love to hear if anyone has got some bright ideas though.

So, we have relatively recent any% and 100% runs, but the current low% run is very old (and there's also the old "no miniboss" run). Is there any interest out there in creating improvements for the old runs? There are plenty of new tricks and strategies that have been developed since the old runs were published and I'd love to see more up-to-date versions of them.

Instead, I am wondering why they were published at first. Is there a way to make a new movie to obsolete both of them?
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

That has been discussed as an option, yes. It will have to be discussed when one of the runs (hopefully the 1 item run) is submitted, though.

Any chance you can summarize since I'm blocked from YouTube at my current location? BTW, have improvements to the low % and any % underway; any % is a small improvement (1.1s ahead as of gold corridor en route to ice beam) but I figured I'd redo it since I was already doing the low %. My est is the low % improvement will be in the 10-15s range, but that's real preliminary since our runs are not directly comparable.

Who is blocking you from YouTube? Anyway, the video shows frequent bomb-jumping to glitch through the floors to get into Tourian without needing to trick or freeze a Rio.

Ah, thx Arflech. I'm blocked from YouTube at work (proxy filter, rrrg). As for the bomb jumping, it would be cool, but unfortunately not useful in any of the runs on this site. This is because for the any % it's much faster to get the ice beam than bombs, and the low % and 100% beat both bosses, negating the need to glitch past the statues...

I guess your options are to 1) not take damage somewhere else (how much time does that cost?), or 2) not take damage here (how much time does that cost?). After you test both, choose the one which is faster.

Tanks Truncated. I discovered that we can kill a monster with a missile when his first appeared on the screen, so I can kill the monster who bloking the passage. Finally, my run is really bad, I start again from the beginning :p

I was thinking of making a Metroid Hack that would be worth a TAS and RTS. I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in this project. I'm going to post on romhacking.net as well. There's a good Metroid Editor out already, but some extra hex editing might be required as well. The first objective is to make a game that great for normal play, and then TAS and RTS implementation will also be kept in mind.

Sorry for the bump. I have a question for TASers of Metroid, regarding the last door in the game. I noticed that sometimes you can walk through the door just as it materializes (without shooting it), therefore advancing to the final room slightly faster. I was wondering if it's known what causes this behavior. Thanks.

I believe it's as simple as your position when the door ent is set to positive.

Basically, the game thinks Samus has entered a door (and starts the appropriate animation) if Samus' position enters within a certain box. Ordinarily, the door must be open for Samus to get into the appropriate position. However, in this case Samus is able to push into the right position just as the door comes into existence - actually IIRC the fastest entry pushes right for 1 frame, causing Samus to get ejected from the door to the left, thereby hitting the trigger.

For some reason, every dump I download is just a gray screen for the whole time when I load it on FCEUX, even the one with the ROM name of the current any% record! ---- Edit by FractalFusion: Deleted ROM request. ROM requests are not allowed. http://tasvideos.org/SiteRules.html
If I could have a tool-assisted real life, I'd... Being a novice, I'd probably load the wrong state, have the IRS AI bankrupt me, and eventually make me want to kill myself and redo 11 years of hard work.

I get it. But still, it would be nice to find a ROM that works.

It's not the rom, it's FCEUX. Just keep reloading the rom until it shows the title screen, then make a save state. After that, you can just load the state and it'll work every time.
