No you can't do the pause trick while side-BLJing.
With a normal stair blj and the new trick would we get enough speed to get past DDD?

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/77693025/Super%20Mario%2064%200%20Star%20TAS.m64 The latest in the new 0 star run by SilentSlayers, Johannes, Moltov and I. We have saved exactly 9 seconds so far over the previous run. That means if we hexed in the ending of the previous run, our time would be 5:20. So I think this guarantees a time of 5:18 or so. EDIT: This also is the last thing you will see from us before the run is submitted.

Also, yesterday we figured out how to skip the air BLJ on the DDD skip, saving roughly a second if optimized.

Love this new run! Super Mario 64 is what got me into watching TAS, and this has some great fresh tricks...I liked the little camera bloop during the intro, and that final BLJ in BitFS shows the type of creativity that makes these runs great. It's just too bad that you guys are so cliquey and secretive about your new strats, favoring more defined accreditation over a "communal" method that has every advantage short of the motivation created within ego-driven competition. Where's the heart, Joopy?

How are we being secretive? We posted two thirds of our run right there...:P

That's a pretty good point! I guess that I just expect you guys to post encodes of every new time-saving strat on YouTube. But you know what I mean...like, how long ago did you guys figure out the new BitFS route? You obviously have no obligation to share new strats, but it seems like the quickest way to achieve the fastest time on what seems to be a close-to-optimal run would be to put as many heads together as possible...just look at Linux.

It wasn't that long ago when we figured it out, it just took forever to optimize to the best of our ability. We all agreed that having better quality work and taking longer was better than getting the working done as quick as we could and submitting it sloppy.

I for one think that Kyman and his fellow team are doing us a very nice favor by posting all these strategies. That's been sorely missing from these message boards since about 2006ish... Of course I understand that you don't want to post all the tricks in the run before submitting, but what you have done is quite awesome nonetheless. I really bet that sharing will help improve this run (and others) even more, evident by the little frame wars that people are having on youtube as well as feedback given here. Thank you for all your amazing videos videos! :)

I don't think it's ever reasonable to expect someone to go to the effort of making and uploading an encode of a WIP. It's a pleasant bonus. People will share as much as they're willing to share. So long as they aren't going "neener neener neener I can do this faster than you but I'm not going to prove it", I don't have a problem with keeping new discoveries secret.

Yeah this is just the weirdest complaint ever when compared to the usual mouth breathers who TAS around here. Kudos on the run, and I too appreciate seeing it shared like you're doing, Kyman. Great work.

Just to remind everyone, this isn't really my project at all. It's more like SilentSlayers and Johannes' team, not my team :P

So the DDD skip on the WIP you posted will be re-done?

All of these videos are great! Yes, even the last one, I saw it before he edited his post. The existing 120-stars run is one hour and 39 minutes with something 60000 rerecords, the new one will be less than one hour, with 500 thousands rerecords, if you proceed like this. Hell I wish I could donate something to you for your hard work and dedication, I love Mario 64 :D

I am really impressed with the individual star TASes I see here, and on youtube. There are dozens of individual star runs online, and it is rather annoying to see people leave up slower TASes, and having to search for the fastest. An organized list of fastest times per star would be great to have, especially for the TASer who wants to "play" the game. Any have or creating such a list?
