Hi Paused, sorry for the lack of wips, but I'm using some tricks that will be present in Comicalflop's any% improvement and he asked me to not spoil his run.
Comicalflop has sumbitted his run! How about now? :)

I must change some of my objectives... new glitches, new strategies. It may take a while for me to post a wip, but here's another "reusable" TAS, pay a special attention to Glimmer's Galleon and Castle Crush. I lost a few frames in K. Rool battle too, so this demo ends before him, just 1 frame ahead of Comicalflop's any% but with Stereo Sound.

Sorry for the above lazy demo, here's a 62 frames faster version. (Glimmer's Galleon is still the same, just Castle Crush is altered) There's a lot of garbage on K. Rool input, something like that: 0XX 0XXX 000 XXX, (copy protection?) so, the K. Rool fight can't be reused, but I managed to finish it. Um... a picture is worth a thousand words:

After many setups and plannings, I realized that there's no way for me to make an interesting playaround, it would be too long for my taste, sadly. So, I'm going to stick with my reusable TAS for good, and reuse the any% to improve the 102% (reuse to improve). Enough talk, let's get to work!

Best TAS ever? It would be great! But that's not going to happen. It's just a concept, I'm not going to submit it. I'm just showing my passion for this game, and my respect for the creator of the TAS, his hard work don't need to be wasted when tricks are discovered. I will also make sure to save as much time as I can, so, the progress will be a little slower on this one, but you can wait for a wip in a week or two. That being said, let's get back to work!

And how much ahead this wip is compared to the published run?

Wow, that's an impressive gain for what I believe is cut&paste work.

I tried to explain my project already, even on my own language, but failed... anyway, it's something like this: copy + paste + adjust + modify + TAS = this. /by the by, I'm still using snes9x 1.43 and TAS Movie Editor, and no, I don't know how to hex edit or watch memory yet :(

Alright, I see. You're copypasting when it syncs and playing by yourself when it doesn't! Can you estimate how many of these 742 frames of improvement come from Comicalflop's run, and how many from your own input?

NxCy and I are watching at the moment, and while there's some good improvements, there's a few that were missed. -Pirate Panic, you can team up/jump to the barrel right above where you spawn. -In warp stages, like topsail trouble, it's better to do one long roll rather than short roll+long roll -It might be faster to do a goal switch with topsail trouble, to avoid having to do a normal switch inside the last bonus -Jungle Jinkx bonus can be improved, by using the team jump/dismount trick to hit the last 3 dragonflies without holding Dixie -Lost time in lava lagoon -Using hard mode would force you to use Rambi in Castle Crush. Hard mode, when I calculated, might save 3ish seconds in the long run, but Castle crush negates this time saved. I think you have the right ideas going on, but I'd recommend a few things. If you're going to do the 102%, by all means you could create something that could obsolete the current run. If you do, you may have to ditch the copy/pasting, TAS every frame from scratch, and have either myself, NxCy, or Arne (who has said he knows of a few new 102% tricks) to co-author with you. 4 minds are greater than one as they say, and while your copy/paste idea lets you update previous runs quickly, it'll be far more satisfying to create a new run from scratch that does not miss any frames anywhere.

Co-author a TAS with you guys would be a dream come true! but... let's face the facts: Manipulate subpixels and luck is beyond my knowledge. I can only watch memory to find cheats, not character speed. In short, I am not a TASer yet, so I can't be a good partner. But I'm testing and applying the improvements you pointed right now, and will post a new wip as soon as I finish, thanks. results of the tests: -Pirate Panic barrel: Can't find the reason, but I'm 10 frames ahead on the first croc using the barrel, but 10 frames behind on the first bonus!(???) -Warp: one long roll: You're right! I was losing some frames on Kannon's Klain warp, so, I decided to left it the way it is. (I'll do it your way) -Topsail Trouble goal switch: No way! Dixie can slow you down more than a normal switch does. -Jungle Jinx bonus: I can't dismount in mid air, I must land on the ground first, or after press B for two frames. (is there any other way???) -Lost time in lava lagoon: In Red-Hot Ride I need Dixie to be the "playable" kong, and switch characters inside water in my tests is faster, so it's a kind of trade.

Nice WIP, Dooty! I was particularly surprised by Gangplank Galley and the way you collected the DK coin on Lockjaw's Locker. Good job! The only obvious copying error I saw seems to be at around frame 44265, where you hit the wall you're trying to jump over in Lava Lagoon. It's nothing big, but it's certainly going to lose a little bit of time. As for Jungle Jinx, this was what I had in mind for the bonus: smv If I remember correctly, it's around 47-50 frames faster. Also, before you edited your last post, I think you mentioned something about a double jump technique. Could you please elaborate on that?

Thanks for the tips. here's the double jump in use to reach a bonus barrel. Jump below a small enemy, like a croc tail or Neek's nose then put v+B. it worked in Castle Crush too, but there's a barrel that prevents Squawlks to go down where I want him... and to jump higher just crouch longer. /-error around frame 44265: um... thats why I wasn't able to get out of the water. thanks. //-Warp: one long roll: I reached Krow's Nest with the warp changes, but Krow is throwing useless eggs like crazy! It's better to leave the first world as is, sorry.

Very nice little trick. Think it'll save time anywhere? Also, I redid Jungle Jinx's bonus and saved 42 more frames. smv It might be possible to optimise it more; I didn't spend a lot of time on this. I think the route's pretty good though.

Ordinarily I wouldn't again, but I had to test out some encoding shit anyway, so: beep

Thank you Antoids for the encodes.

(double jump trick) Need some research, but I guess it's only useful for entertainment. I was using it on my playaround to collect some of the KONG letters.

Wow, and I mean it! I implemented your previous method, here 852 frames ahead before Kleever. by the way, I'm thinking to restart the run on "normal mode", ComicalFlop is right, Castle Crush can ruin the improvements. edit: Your Jungle Jinx bonus gave me another idea: No matter what, a bonus always synchronizes, why not TAS just the bonus stages, to create something like TAS plugins? (ok, it's stupid...)

A new wip, before Krockhead Klamber 1120 frames ahead. I'm going to lose some frames here... let's minimize the loss, shall we?

I need Dixie to reach the first bonus, so it's no use to sacrifice her here, and enter the stage twice to collect the DK coin wastes too much frames. um... I can't test it right now, (and it may be slower) but this might work: team up/dismount over the first bees and team up/throw over the last ones.
