Wouldn't it save time on get a hand star if you were land in the void after collecting the star?
You would just land on the bottom of the level and dance, there would be no point.
I thought it would be a "death star" and exit the level with the star collected without dancing?

No, to do that you have to die then get the star, not get the star then die.

So it is slower because of CPU limitations? Does that mean camera angles have to be optiomized for speed rather than entertainment throughout the complete run?

That's interesting and it makes sense to me. So I assume the best camera angle for the least CPU usage would be close-up mario camera.

Well you just have to monitor KTQ's speed, and whatever makes him faster you do. If anyone wants the memory addresses (courtesy of andymac) I will be happy to give them to you.

I remember, someone said a few time ago, that the frame rate goes slower when there are many things on screen, so camera angle can make a really difference. And now, for a different subject:

Hey guys, I'm new to TASing and I had a few questions. I'm not trying to be super great yet, just messing around and trying to get used to the mechanics at the moment. When BLJ in the lobby (from the pillar) how do you get through the front door so you are behind it? I keep running into it and opening it. Is it that I don't have enough speed built up from my BLJ or is it that I'm not hitting it at the right place? Also, this is more of a mupen question, but is the only way to get the exact frame you are on to be displayed to be recording? Thanks for any responses guys!

Try doing a few more BLJ's, then running through the door, you'll get through every time if you have enough speed. ;) Also, yes you have to be recording to see the frame.

Well, I got through. I did the most BLJs I could before he flew through the wall of the pillar lol. I got lucky and didn't move my analog direction and got through the door. However, when I recorded it and tried to store it on dehacked, it says: "M64 movie begins from external savestate. Rejected." how do I remedy this? Thanks for the help, and sorry for being a noob!

If the movie starts from a savestate, it cannot be posted on microstorage. There is no way around this, other than to post at a file sharing site.

Oh, so would I have had to loaded the savestate, advanced a frame, then start the recording? If so, I can probably just record again =)

Uh I think I am not understanding this correctly. When you record a movie, you select either start from start or from now, and if your movies starts from a savestate (not the very start of the game) you cannot post it on microstorage. You can post it on a site like this. Unless you are trying to do something else, and I am completely missing it. :P

Okay, sorry for all the questions. If this should go in the Mupen thread, just let me know and I'll take these questions there. However, I'm trying to record me going through the door. I start the savestate of me in the BLJ position, then start recording. I select "Start from Snapshot" I then, start TASing, and if I make a mistake, I load the savestate. My problem is though, when I reload the savestate, and try again, the recording doesn't count it as a rerecord, and just keeps going... Am I doing something wrong?

You are most likely loading a savestate not from the movie, from either before you started recording or from something else completely. Make sure the states you load are right. If that doesn't work, then I don't know.

Finally got the recording to work. I was being silly. This is a BLJ in the lobby trying to get through the door. Later, I'll try to get through the star door! http://www.mediafire.com/?ymmyiyywecn My first TAS! EDIT2: An Elevator BLJ on BoB. I tried to do this without looking at any reference material, and this is what I got. Next time I try, I'll try to figure out ow to get up those stairs without losing so much momentum. =) This is really fun though! http://www.mediafire.com/?m1gnind5ynz EDIT3: Sorry for all the edits. I forgot to include the savestates...

Ok, I'm still a little new here... Is there any one working on a 100% run? And who exactly is working on the 0-star run? (Just wondering P) And a trick I've been seeing lately A lot of people kick/punch (B) right before doing something... is there any timing that plays into this? And why does it help at all?
http//www.youtube.com/TheExarion Don't worry, I'm here to want to help! )

100% run: No 0 star run: Me, SilentSlayers, Johannes, Moltov, sonicpacker The punching trick gives you more speed from a stop saving a frame, but you can't turn around to do it, you must stay in the same direction.
