I didn't see a TAS of Cheetahmen at all, so I decided, why not. Other than that, it's your run of the mill TAS.
Action 52, by Active Enterprises, was a poorly made game for the NES. It's badly made quality and extreme price tag ($199) made it known in the gaming universe as a game that's "So bad you have to play it." Cheetahmen was the game that the publisher's wanted to advertise the most, using a comic book and hints of toys to be released.

Game objectives

Beat the final boss.
  • Emulator used: FCEUX 2.1.4a
  • Up+Down/Left+Right On

  • Takes damage to save time
  • Heavy glitch abuse
  • Abuses programming errors in the game

Comments

Before anyone says anything, yes, I missed one shortcut, in level one. But I really wanted to get all of level one in, since it's the only level in the game that has the whole nonjumping-bird's-eye-view-at-an-angle-side-scrolling gameplay.
This game is very precise about certain things to actually let the screen scroll to continue the level. In level two, in the beginning, I turned around to kill an enemy to allow the screen to scroll. Same thing in the last level, where I climb up a ladder, then climb down it a little.
The end boss battle may look a little strange, due to the fact his flight path is a little random, he, and all bosses in the game, kill with one hit, and the actual reload time on my character's weapon. The character I was using cannot use the jump glitch, as other character's can. His jump height only allows me to shoot once in midair.

Kind of a bad game choice and run looks kinda awkward in spots because of that. Still broken game gets broken. So I guess thats a meh.

Somehow, they managed to make the sequel even worse than the first game.
No.

I wanted to see all 52 games TASed in one video. Anyway, I say yes.

Yeah, this is much more fun to watch than any of the runs for the sequel. There's much more variety, it's much more colorful, much more interesting. I heartily approve. And to cheer on the publication of this run, I present this sprite edit I made to look like BYU's Cosmo the Cougar.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

I voted meh, but I think I should've voted no. The game is just horrible and the boss fights seem improvable. I don't know if they are and if they're not, it just underlines how bad this game is.

That was so bad, it's horrible... I'll make an encode at some point, when I can recover from having my ears and brains melted. Meh vote.

Thanks for the encode, NitroGenesis! So, I've been amused by the Cheetahmen II runs. This game looks marginally better. However, the play looks sloppy, and that may just be the game's fault, but it doesn't work for me. There should really be a better way to beat those bosses... Now, I'm up for bad games sometimes. I liked Ghostbusters. I liked Takeshi No Chousenjou. I liked Urban Champion. Those runs took an obnoxious game and made it look like no problem at all. This, however, still looks clumsy even when TASed, so that's what makes me vote No here. The music is still stuck in my head, though...
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Man, Rocksteady is moronic in this game, even more than usual even. The jumping sound effects were like a timewarp back to 1979 Atari 2600 games. I love how sound stops whenever Projectile Kitty fires his weapon. Would have voted yes were it Pumaman!

Guys, did you know there's a glitch in the game "Billy Bob". After you finish the last stage of this game, you are warped instantly to the screen you entered when you was in the bonus room (I mean that screen that flickers a few seconds).

Voting NO because it doesn't take the shortcut to beat level 1 quickly. You can't miss something like that and still claim it's a TAS. It's like a SMB1 TAS that gets fireworks.

Sorry but I can't judge this TAS with merely an encode. Note:

FCEUX 2.1.4a fails to clear certain memory pieces when it starts emulating a game. As a result, the menu selection of the last game played in Action 52 is always memorized with FCEUX, so that any precise TAS of the game will desync at the menu if any game has ever been selected once, even if you have re-opened the ROM after that. The only workaround requires re-launching the emulator.
<klmz> it reminds me of that people used to keep quoting adelikat's IRC statements in the old good days <adelikat> no doubt <adelikat> klmz, they still do

I think there's a warp in the first part of the first level somewhere. I saw it in another playthrough once. That'll cut off a good chunk of time. I think it's in a waterfall. I'm not certain.

M'kay, didn't glance over it that well. Honestly though, with this kind of game, because it sucks so bad, I'd just use the shortcut. If you know you missed an obvious timesaver, well...go back and do it again.

I was planning on redoing it with the shortcut at some point.

I was going to submit it here, but I was led to believe it would be rejected for being a bad game choice. What do you think?

I vote yes to Swordless Link's run. Those boss fights were so much cleaner. Really though, the game needs to be published because of the music.
