I saw this thread on xkcd and i think it would be nice to do it here too. If you could combine any 2 games, which would you do? Shenmue with Grand Theft Auto type freedom would be the greatest game ever, because it would be Shenmue where you could beat the shit out of anyone. ssb - current characters + all 151 pokemon = pokemon w/ smash gameplay. wii sports + mario tennis/golf

Super Metroid + Angband. Metroid-style exploration combined with procedural mapgen means no two games are ever identical! (Hey look, that's what the project I'm working on hopes to be)
Pyrel - an open-source rewrite of the Angband roguelike game in Python.

I remember something like this having been discussed years ago here as well. Anyways, my response back then and now is still: Final Fantasy (style of JRPG) + Tekken (style of combat). Tekken-type games are boring in the long run, at least in single-player mode. What would make them significantly more interesting would be if there was an involved storyline and gameplay outside of the fighting. A JRPG-style game with Tekken-style encounters would be the optimal. In JRPGs you usually learn new skills and get new armor, weapons and accessories as you advance. This could work well with Tekken-style fighting, not only in the form of weapons and armor, but also in the form of unlocking new, more effective combos.

You can try "Tobal" and "Shaolin", both for psone. Maybe you know these games, they feature a quest mode resembling a mix of jrpg and 3d brawler.

Grand Theft Auto (3 or later) and either Mass Effect. It would be absolutely incredible.

Bad Dudes + Ninja Gaiden. Replace the Dudes with Ryu in the Bad Dudes stages then in the Ninja Gaiden games, replace Ryu with the Dudes. That'd be too epic to handle. I'm shaking. "Are you a bad enough ninja to kidnap the president, then get your little asses kicked by damned dudes who are bad enough to punch you in the dick on a helicopter?"

Sonic + Metroid. Within a Deep Forest? Gunstar Super Heroes + Metroid. Castlevania + Metroid… wait, that one's been done. Planescape: Torment + ADoM. Alien Soldier + Radiant Silvergun. Iwanaga?

Umihara Kawase + Super Mario Galaxy. Metal Gear Solid + Katamari Damacy. (hide around the corner until the guard looks the other way, then quickly jump out roll him into your Katamari ball... it becomes progressively more challenging to be stealthy the bigger you get... maybe you can blend in with your surroundings by gathering up the right combination of stuff and holding still... yes I'm kind of joking, but I could see some sort of stealth + accumulation gameplay working in the right setting) Portal + Marble Madness. Chrono Trigger + Monkey Island. Ikaruga + Loco Roco. Yoshi's Island + Blast Corps. (1-1 could be called "Make Eggs, Throw Eggs, Demolish Neighborhood") Counter-Strike + Grand Theft Auto. Final Fantasy Tactics + Toribash. Ico + Bomberman. ROM CHECK FAIL ^2.

So you'd be shooting the dinosaurs with something like paintball guns? Nintendo World Cup (super kicks, almost no rules) + Street Fighter II (special attacks)
Current Projects: TAS: Wizards & Warriors III.

Barney's Hide and Seek Game + Elmo's Letter Adventure. S.O.S + Prince of Persia. The games have basically the same mechanics, except S.O.S is slower, and there's no combat. Commando + Front line. Rambo (NES) + Rambo (SMS)

I got another idea: A sandbox style game such as Fallout 3, and a golf game such as the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series. But not just regular par 3-5 golf courses. Have the tee at one corner of the outworld, and the hole at the other corner, and the objective is, naturally to get the ball in the hole in the least amount of hits. This could be something like par-100 or such holes. Online leaderboards could keep track of the best scores.

Grand Theft Auto gameplay with a Mass Effect conversation, morality, and leveling system.

GTA IV had those. Also, Mass Effect morality and conversations are all black and white and even grey if you like, so there's no big deal. My combination would be Tenchu + Spider-Man 2 (PS2 and those consoles). Stealth action in a sandbox, how awesome would that be?
