F-Zero is a futuristic Racing Game.
Recorded on Snes9x 1.43 +v10
Settings that are enabled: WIP1 timing Fake Mute desync workaround Sync samples with sound CPU
   - no warps or passwords used
   - no programming errors or glitches used
   - aiming for fastest possible time
The lap times are:
  1. 27"13 (because of starting from 0 km/h and double bump on opponent)
  2. 24"89 (A new strategie is used to get lap times under 24"90)
  3. 24"88 (one reason for it is that i got far into the lap, that's why 2nd lap is 24"89 and this one is 24"88)
  4. 24"89
  5. 24"88 (same effect like in lap 2 and 3)
World Record Times of Big Blue:
Total: 2'06"96 (0"29 sec slower than this time)
Starting Lap: 27"20 (0"00 secs slower)
Fastest 1-Boost Lap: 24"90 (0"01 secs slower)
This is a run on the track called Big Blue which is 0"29 seconds faster then the previous World Record run, what is actually really a lot in this game.
The World Record on this track is 2'06"96.So there is a difference of 0"29 to this Tool-Assisted-Speedrun.Some of you might think it's not much, but in this Game 0"29 secs are a lot.
In order to make the TAS fast i used a new technique on boosts. A boost gives you more speed (from 562 km/h down to 486km/h for a while) with this technique i short the time of the boost where it has the speed of 530km/h to 486 km/h.Following to that i can use the part of a boost from 562 km/h to 430km/h more often during on boost.
That technique can save 0"06 during one boost.

Is this game easy to hex-edit? If so, you could work on each and every track separately, and just paste it all together when you are done with each and every level. For me it is a hard decision whether or not this run should be published. I most of the time prefer to watch a single segment of the entire game at once, instead of all the tracks separated. A segmented run would be easier for competition though, since players can select what ever track they want to compete on. All in all I think it is an impressive run, and I hope to see more from you either way. Cheers.

The game is practically impossible to hex-edit, because, as I mentioned earlier, the GP mode includes CPUs driving around that you would have to avoid.

So, you achieved what you wanted, and that is great. You made a TAS for yourself. That doesn't mean that this website has to accept a TAS you made for yourself. Whether or not it gets published at this site is inconsequential to your stated goals. So calm down, and enjoy your own TAS. Also, it should be noted, that the 'single track runs' that were or are published on the site are considered to be some of the worst publications, and are brought up every time someone mentions 'un-publication.'

I am sorry but I have to agree with FunStyle here. This is a good TAS and I'd love to see it published. It is sad to see yet another example of how tasvideos can build a wall in front of a talented newcomer. FunStyle: you are good, I am glad that you have a Youtube channel, I can't wait to see more of what you can do! Yes vote.

THis was really well done, but I think it would be more interesting to see all of the difficulty classes/all tracks TASed on this game.

I'm sure there's a to properly integrate an IL Table into the site without making it look messy and cluttered. That shouldn't be a reason to vote no. That said, this really wasn't a very interesting watch at all. I was bored about halfway through. I'm voting no for poor game/mode choice. (Playing with the computers in GP mode may be more interesting.)

Unlike a game like Super Mario Kart which can easily be broken to hell and beyond, F-Zero is the kind of racing game that wouldn't be too entertaining to see a full playthrough (all three leagues - 15 tracks). But at the same time, a single track is rarely accepted on the site for the reasons we know. An idea would be to do like the Top Gear 2 run, which started at the last "country" of the game (in F-Zero terms, that would be playing only the King League), on the hardest difficulty. Thoughts? Anyway, I voted yes, because I liked the run. However, I'd be happy to see it published, only to be obsoleted later by a King League or full run later on.
I lurk, okay?

Voting no. I don't see any reason to obsolete a largely disliked movie with another single track run. Even if someone did a full run that got bromidic halfway through, I still vote yes just to get rid of Saturn's run.

Voting no, this joke is getting old now, stop doing single track tas, it doesnt beat the game, and the concepts demos are something of an older age. Good exemple of quick rejection needed here, theres absolutly ZERO point in letting this taking dust in the workbench, aside from either spliting on the author because he obviously didnt followed the rules, or have fans trowing all theirs flowers, this could have been done in the forum instead workbench.

Entertaining and fast run but I voted no for the same reason that I'd much rather see an all track run than a bunch of miniature runs

Fun game to watch, and I especially liked how you handled tight turns, but not a TAS quality video. Too many corrections on straightaways, for one. Also, you CAN complete the game if you pick one mode. For example, you should pick the King League on Expert (or even Master) difficulty and play all of the tracks in that mode. Now THAT would be far more entertaining and worth the yes vote. As it is, one race on practice mode is not worth publication. But don't give up! Try to make a full run if you can. And leave it on YouTube; it'll inspire others to try, too!
If at first you don't succeed, load your savestate and try again!

I've heard this complaint earlier, and I know enough of the game to tell you these are what makes the run so fast. Due to the imprecision of the D-Pad, it is impossible to pick the best line immediately when coming out of a corner, so all these adjustments are used to adhere to the perfect line as much as possible. This run is technically very good, and very fast, that is absolutely no reason to reject it. If this run is rejected, it should be due to either lack of entertainment (with which I disagree) or the fact that it does not complete the game. I voted no for the latter. This run could easily be beaten thought, because there is a glitch that allows you to drive trough the walls of the tracks (without dieing) which means you can circle around the finish, completing the game much faster (note: although more suited for a run on this site, I do not find this the most entertaining way of doing so). And FunStyle: I really liked your run, and I do hope you keep making these (I'm very interested in how fast all tracks can be beaten with the aforementioned pause-glitch). I just thought I should make it clear that my (and I think many others) no-vote had nothing to do with the run itself. I merely voted no because I feel this site is meant for game-beating videos, which yours is not.

Hehe, the pause-glitch. Yeah i just wanted to show how fast the tracks can be beaten without that glitch. I see most of you like my run and i see what's wrong with it. In this case i can say last thing to those who liked my run.I will post in the forum if i don't forget to do and i surely will upload on my YouTube account.

I'd like to see some solution to the "racing game" issue. Having TAS'd Excitebike, it's clear that in some cases it is reasonable to have one published movie for all tracks. BUT, having started TASing N64 F-Zero X, it is clear to me that in some cases it is NOT reasonable. Doing the first track took me about 40 hours (granted, some of this due to unfamiliarity/difficulty with the emulator). There are 23 other tracks, though, so even for such a popular title, a complete TAS would be a massive effort. If some team were to complete this, obsoleting it would be another massive effort. The result, which I see as a negative, is we have no F-Zero X presence on the site. The SNES F-Zero seems about halfway between Excitebike and F-Zero X; it would be reasonable to think a single motivated TASer could complete all tracks, though no one has coming into the site's 7th year. Another reason I think the track-by-track approach is reasonable in cases where there are many tracks of moderate to high TASing difficulty is most racing games have no "state" that carries from track to track, ie it can reasonably be stated that 30 single track efforts is just as legitimate an accomplishment as a single 30 track effort.

I agree with Lord Tom, perhaps something like the individual level (IL) tables found over at SDA could pose a solution to this problem. However, even if we had these, F-Zero would be a difficult case as practice does not cover all tracks. This means that you would either have to do only some tracks, which seems an odd solution to me, or you'd do the GPs. Then again, as the latter does not allow you to pick certain levels, it would become more of a individual cup thing. Still, for racing games in which all levels can be done individually, I think an IL table is a very good solution that, at the very least, should be taking into consideration.

I acknowledge that a lot of effort is put into runs like these. However, as it is now, we don't accept runs of a single level out of many, that don't complete the game or do anything notable compared to other levels. That's just the way it is. The existing publication was an exception that was allowed over four years ago. Since then, the audience has generally been dissatisfied with single level tracks. There have been arguments before about to what extent this site should cover games (especially goals, because a single game can have many goals). Mostly it has been determined by audience response. As for the game itself, I personally don't think much about a full game run, but I would say such a run deserves publishing as technical merit. However, there is this other issue, with the pause glitch, that could make it more interesting, if it is possible to pull off the glitch on some laps in Grand Prix mode. Of course, anyone who makes a single-track improvement to the published run, whether glitched or not, will have it obsolete that run, even if such improvement stands to be rejected in its own right. However, one should not expect a good response for such a movie nowadays (though doing it glitched increases the chance of a good response, in my opinion).

I tend to judge TASes of games I didn't play growing up based purely on entertainment value, and though I do appreciate the effort that went into achieving what is probably excellent technical quality, I thought this was pretty boring. Nothing personal, but for me, it was just, you know, a car going really fast around a track a few times. As far as the "it's not a complete run" argument, I'm on the fence, as I think there should be certain exceptions to that rule, particularly for games like this. Sorry, but my vote is no.
Oh, play it cool. Play it cool. Here come the space cops.
