Note: After the input ends, wait for the final Link to complete suicide so the credits would roll.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: VBA22
  • Aims for the fastest time to reach to the last possible frame that requires input
  • Abuses glitches
  • Minor luck mainipulation
  • Colors a dinosaur the world
  • Aims for the highest possible in-game time

Comments

I got the idea for this run after I saw Tompa's glitched run and Greenalink's Palace of Four Swords run. At first, I didn't know how to quickly collect weapons, until I saw this. Now armed with weapons, the only thing I had to figure out was how to bypass the electric gate. I messed around abit until I did and started this run.

Stage by stage comments

Hyrule Castle

Many thanks to Tompa for his LttP run which I used to get to the castle. Slight modifications were done to mainipulate the guard to approach Link.

Ganon's Castle

I entered here so that the mirror will warp me back here instead of Hyrule Castle. Also, to make some things appear and work correctly.

Palace of Four Swords

I had horrid luck with the Bari, with it refusing to move to the right earlier. I killed the boss with nothing but a poisonous boomerang. For the last Link, it was quite difficult. I had to be at cordinates (4479,5489) to activate the credits. I also had to kill Link without dying or with any input. I positioned myself so that when Link slashes the boomerang, it would push me to the right spot without him using his jump-stab attack.

Other Comments

This run could be improved with better luck and possibly ending the battle earlier.

klmz: The author should clarify whether the objective "Completes the game as fast as possible" was supposed to be achieved in this movie, or it was supposed to be a different goal instead. At the moment, the game can be completed faster with input appended to the end of the movie file, which would suggest that the objective is not achieved.

klmz: Clarification: By moving the glitched "game character" several steps downwards after the movie input ends, the player can let the "final boss" commit suicide faster than it did with only the movie input. Thus the movie didn't complete the game as fast as possible.

klmz: The issue stated above no longer presents after the author revised the objectives. Resetting status.
FractalFusion: Judging.
FractalFusion: Although I didn't really enjoy this movie, a number of people seem to like how glitched it is. Thus I will accept the movie for publication.
I also replaced the movie with a newer version which the author says will help with desync problems. I personally did not experience any.

You might want to actually look at your movie file, you probably uploaded the wrong one. Not only does it not reach the ending, you get yourself killed by the final link. Ignoring the above, while this is probably a technically good run, I rather dislike the huge graphical discoloration/etc. that occurs due to it, and it significantly reduces the entertainment I'd get from it. I shall abstain from voting until a fixed movie is posted, however.

I just downloaded the run and it seems to work fine. Note: You shouldn't do anything at all after the movie ends as the last Link should walk towards to the Boomerang twice and die.

The first to raise the middle bar. Funny how Link warped to a rainbow dungeon as a result of that glitch. Nice! [Y]

This has to be the most corrupted run I have seen this week, and there was some serious competition this week. Oh and I don't think this would win if it competed in the "fastest in game time" category ;)

Voting yes, I found the run rather entertaining. The broken palette actually made it slightly more entertaining for me.

I knew about the up+down trick from the Link to the Past video, but this one goes far beyond that in craziness. Yes vote. It would be nice if I knew what was going on.

Some room in the game you aren't supposed to get to causes some catastrophic memory overwriting, that leads to a bunch of other really nasty problems.

Sorry, but I can't do the encode. I only get the Game Over screen at the end. I'm using the right ROM (with the same exact number) and VBA22.

I just re-downloaded VBA v22 and got a desync. I think I can fix it. Sorry for any inconvience caused. Edit: I placed an empty frame just before the last boomerang and it seems to work on a "new" VBA v22. You can download it here. If this doesn't work, then try deleting the vba configuration file before starting the emulator.

Thank you for sharing Link's LSD trip with us. This would also explain his money constantly decreasing.

This wins glitchy award for the year. I have never seen a glitch recolor the entire game pallet.

I'm going to have to go against the flow and give this one a no. A high-range no (just below a meh), but still a no. The "under the floor" glitch is already showcased plenty in the SNES run. Stretching out the game by going for a farther ending point doesn't really add any additional entertainment except in those few instances where there is interaction with the environment going on. While invoking the "Cursed Link" glitch is fairly interesting, the side effects of the glitch are incredibly annoying. Making the low health and rupee sounds go constantly negates the entertainment that should have been gained by breaking the game so thoroughly. I also didn't care for the corrupted color palette, but that was far less offensive to the senses than the sounds. I liked the final boss fight (although I have no idea what was going on), but I have a nagging feeling that the input is ended too soon. I've never been a fan of movies that force the watcher not to touch anything for a significant period of time just so they can end input sooner. If null frames are required to beat the game, my opinion is that they are part of the run even if they can theoretically be omitted from the input. I don't see a big enough difference between forcing the viewer to leave null input after the input ends and forcing them to hold a button after the input ends. I'm not sure how much of the desync problem is due to how early input is ended, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is a large cause of the problem. To clarify, the "no" vote has nothing to do with when the input is ended and is based on the fact that this run primarily consists of more of the same things seen in the SNES run and a glitch that makes the rest of the run incredibly annoying. jlun2, don't take this personally. I fully admit I'm a harsh critic, especially when it comes to branches that I don't think add enough new and exciting content. If the SNES glitched run wasn't already on site or if I wasn't so sensitive to auditory annoyances, I would have given this a more favorable vote.

A high range no? I don't think that's very encouraging at all bro, in fact I'd probably take offense to that if I were the runner. (this is like saying its a piece of shit but not quite as bad as diarrhea) But that's just me... Just say no and say why and dispense with the attempts to make people feel better about your vote/reason. Glitched and broken run, I love it! Yes vote.

So if I say "strong no vote" like I did here. Does that suddenly make it more acceptable? I'm sorry but the corruption glitch, the sounds mainly. Made it largely unwatchable for me.

Uhhh...what the heck did I just watch? I'm kind of torn on this one...from a technical standpoint, this run is amazing and deserves a Yes vote without a doubt. On the other hand, like Mitjitsu, the sound was incredibly annoying, which from an entertainment standpoint would render a No vote (unless you watch it muted). In my opinion, though, I'd still vote Yes. I think the technical side of this run definitely outweighs about 4 minutes (or less) of noise pollution. Consider this my "Lurker Yes" :P On a side note..."Lurker Yes" just sounds like a bad Starcraft joke waiting to happen...

To me this is a cool run that might have a place in Gruefood Delight. It's hard to argue for publication, because ultimately this is a run of a rerelease of a game with a small amount of content added. The route is clever and it's interesting to watch, but we're ultimately still looking at a run of LttP + a minute or so of added content; in my mind, this just doesn't justify a new category. Nicely done... I did enjoy it. My vote is meh; I'm not entirely opposed to its publication, but I suspect it won't happen, based on past precedent. Good work and I look forward to future submissions from you.

This movie is bound to get an award. Yes, yes and yes.
