Certain ROM images have, as an anti-piracy measure, a feature that prevents Pokémon from gaining EXP. I hope there is a run of such a version in the future :U

The game is quite interesting from what I've played so far. I'm up to the first gym. The battles are noticeably quicker then prior games (even in the animations off/fast text mode). And a female Professor! ZOMG Game Freak went off the deep end. :P
Taking over the world, one game at a time. Currently TASing: Nothing

I heard Desmume actually has more success running this than the flashcarts when it came to this AP. I, for one, think this was a very clever thing they did. Of course, you could technically still play with this, by just capturing progressively stronger Pokemon and buying lots of Rare Candy and Vitamins. And of course luck. I also heard that there is a totally new RNG system for Black and White. EV and IV are structured differently as well. Old Pokemon also receive brand new abilities in Dream World. The possibilities of teams are much greater than in the 4th Gen. for sure. I'm not sure if a run would happen in the near future, but I'll definitely look forward to it.

It would have been amazing if the anti-piracy mechanism was 'nuzlocke mode rules'. (no healing items, if a pokemon faints you release it, you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter on any given route/named area)

im starting a casual/test run of this, nothing very optimized (optimized cutscenes, choose starter that seems to have best type for early gyms (i like choosing squirtle in red because i dont have a gym my pokes bad agains until 3, when i have other options), basic stuff), i cant see myself going back more than 10-30 thousand frames (estimate) unless a big glitch/abuse is discovered. the main reason im doing this is because i know somebody at school that has a flashcart and already "has" black and most likely has beaten it, and he annoys me quite a bit for various reasons. so i just want to be able to be tas'ing it when he shows it off to everybody. but i also want to get a quick test run out just for fun. i will be trying to manipulate the rng as best i can (probably spend about 1-2 hours on starter iv manipulating if possible) and critties and stuff like that. yes i know about how the rng is likely more difficult to manipulate, but i am going to try. i cant understand japanese beyond a few words here and there i learned off watching anime, so if somebody knew where i could find a WIP translation guide thats being made, that would be appreciated. mainly i need the pause menu translated (i need to know how to get to the options and turn animations off, although i may leave them on for the test run,), along with maybe a screenie of what the screen will look like during a critical hit and a miss (so i know what to attempt to rng.). i dont really need story because i can find something online that will tell me where to go, also pokemon names are unneeded because they are foreign names to me anyway so i will call a pokemon for instance, "the pokemon with the two wierd u symbols in his name". while this wont be optimized, hopefully it will help me gather information for when somebody does really make a submittable one. also quick memory question for anybody who can answer it. do pokemon games typically keep every enemies pokemon's hp in the same address (e.x. im facing pidgey, his hp value is 20 stored in 0690. i kill him, go to a gym fight brock, his onyx's hp value is 50 stored in the same address of 0690.) and in general what addresses would be useful? thanks.

1st question: yes, pokemon games do store the enemy hp value on the same byte, not depending on the species. 2nd question: IVs of the first pokemon in your party, your opponent's stats and HP, and, if you're taking luck manipulation to a high standard, RNG seed. I think you'd rather wait for the american release to start a serious TAS. Seeing that there's a lot of interest in Pokémon games in general, someone is probably going to crack the RNG or find a glitch soon. Aside from that, (U) releases normally change the RAM map completely and any addresses you find now will become useless in the future.

Try it out, thundrio, and see what happens. Post anything important here for later reference. I have to warn you that the RNG is going to be bad. This is rather presumptuous on my part, but I claim it is justified. I'll leave out the details, but check the Diamond/Pearl thread if you're interested. If you're going to do the Japanese version, I assume you have Pokemon experience of any kind. If you have questions, you can ask here, but remember that most of us have no experience with Black/White so we won't able to tell you where to go. If you've played Pokemon before, a lot of stuff should be rather logical at first. If your attack misses, it's pretty obvious. Critical hit should be obvious by testing but if you can't tell, きゅうしょに あたった is the Japanese. The attacks are in Japanese but you don't really need to know that. All you need to know is that the attack is there and you use it. Most of the basic ones early on are Normal-typed and things like Tackle (which in Japanese is たいあたり). But really, you can guess at what sort of effect an attack does by seeing what happens when you use it. If it is super-effective, it obviously does a lot of damage plus there is a "it's super effective!" (can't remember the Japanese). If you really need to know the exact name of a Pokemon or attack, use the hiragana chart to decode the Japanese: http://www.saiga-jp.com/img/character/japanese_language/hiragana_katakana_list.gif then search it, or post in this thread if you can't find out. But don't post here with "the pokemon with the two wierd u symbols in his name", because we probably aren't able to figure out what you mean. Also make use of Bulbapedia and serebii.net. And Youtube.
