Rolanmen1's Sonic Battle Playaround.
This is a demonstration of the games potential, it plays through Battle Mode using 2 different types of battles.
Aims
  • Doesn't Aim for fastest time
  • Doesn't take damage
  • Genre: Fighting
About the Game
Sonic found a robot called Emerl that feeds with Chaos Emeralds, in a matter of time, he found out that the robot can learn it's opponent movements and use it, being totally customizable to put movements of every character, the more fights it gets, the more movements it can learn, sadly, it can only learn one movement per battle. When he learns every single attack in the whole game, you can customize him to be an ultimate weapon of destruction, being the most hard character to beat in the whole game.
This game has 2 kind of movements, Normal Attacks and Special Attacks. Normal Attakcs are all kind of simple attacks. Special Attacks are those wich are asigned to the R Button, each character has 6 different Special Attacks, but can only use 2, these are choosed from the very beginning of the battle and after a character gets KOed.
Above the Health Meter, there is an Overdrive metter, it increases by blocking attacks, getting hit and by meditating. When it's full, when the character use an Special Attack it can KO the enemy instantly, thus depleting the Overdrive meter. If a character blocks an Overdrived Special Attack, the character gets it's Overdrive meter full.
Also, each character can instantly block one of the 2 Special Attack of each opponent, I think that this is determined each time a character die.
About the Run
This TAS starts from SRAM to make Emerl have all the strongest attacks to increase the entertainment of this TAS. Here is the .SAV used.
Now, to the fights:
I did 2 fights, in wich I used different character to make it less repetitive.
About Configuration:
I Choosed Emerald Beach and Battle Highway because these have the best music of the game.
Reduced the Characters Interval to 5 secs (minimun), this means that everytime a character gets KOed, it has a limit of 5 secs to choose it's special movement to re-appear in the battle.
Increased the COMs difficulty to what the game calls "Super Powerful"
-First Fight-
KO Battle: 15 KOs (First Character to get 15 KOs Wins)
Sonic vs Tails, Knuckles and Amy
I choosed Sonic because of his good speed, he is one of the weakest characters, but his speed allows him to make good combos to KO opponents.
Tails a little stronger than Sonic but slower. Knuckles is the powerhouse, being realy slow, but incredibly powerfull. Amy is the fastest of the three and the second on power, she, can easily KO because of how powerfull she is using hammer attacks.
-Second Fight-
Timed Battle: 5 Mins (Character to get the biggest KO Count at the end wins)
Shadow vs Emerl, Emerl and Emerl
I choosed Shadow because of his great speed, power and coolness, he is faster than Sonic and stronger than Knuckles.
Emerl has all the strongest attack he can get, only one can be the most difficult enemy to deal with, and not to mention that I fought against 3. And they are nearly always blocking attacks, making it difficult to actualy being able to hit them.

I abstain from voting due to the fact that I've not played this game and am unable to give a proper opinion based on this category. I do however, feel compelled enough to encode this.

Even for a playaround, doesn't we require a verification movie for the save?

Getting max everything on Emerl would take hours and hours and hours. (Well, I guess you could put it on fast forward and come back to verify that it does give maximum stats.)

What do you mean for verification movie?

A movie that begins from clear save data and creates the state that the submission continues from. There are less restrictions on it, use built in cheats and passwords and take as much time you need. Use whatever is easiest for you to create it. It's judged on a scale of "ok" or "invalid".

As much as I enjoyed the movie (Sonic Battle! man, I haven't played that in ages) I don't feel it's appropriate as a movie on tasvideos because: 1. It lacks a goal that can be optimized towards 2. it doesn't hold the universal, obvious showoff of TASing ability appeal that the tetris playaround video has It certainly has its place on youtube, though!

Well, actually didn't knew this rule, though, to actually make a movie of it, it would require like 2 or more days (in-movie time), since this game is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckin long and repetitive (hence why i decided to make a play-around instead on going on story mode.

Isn't there a soccer game TAS with the same capabilities >_>. And also, i targeted this game because of this: If you actually look to Articles - Movie Making - List of Ideas - GameBoy Advance. If you look here, Sonic Battle is listed there as a TAS that should be done. So I please ask this movie to be rated under that point of view.

Voting no for crappy game choice, it wasn't interesting or entertaining which is vital for a playaround.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. In Star trek, I killed helpless comrades in escape pods to save time. Here, I kill my allies to save time. I think I need help.

Games posted there may make for an interesting speedrun, but they also may not. Quoting the page:
Being on this list does not necessarily mean a game will produce an entertaining movie Ideas are usually added on the basis of the game, but it's impossible to know definitively which games are entertaining and which ones aren't before seeing a movie of them.
That having been said, it's the first time I see a 3D game like this in GBA. That and the fact there were Sonic characters made it somewhat amusing to watch. But it got repetitive and old very fast...

I did not like it. It failed to impress me and it did not look particularly tool assisted.

It's impossible to beat those guys humanly, if you say that because i had to wait some frames so the enemies won't block my attacks.

I do not like this game. Whom ever said, "This needs to be TASed" was wrong. This game is NOT that great. If it was in Smash Bros. Style, it would rock! But, it's 3D. Still, effort is effort I guess.
When TAS does Quake 1, SDA will declare war. The Prince doth arrive he doth please.

No one follows that "rule", except for movies based off the SRAM of existing publications, or this movie, where you couldn't trust the SRAM even if you wanted to.

I too voted no, because the game seemed horrible and I was bored throughout the run.

No vote, it's an awfully tedious watch and it looks more like sloppy real-time play then tool-assisted play to me. Bad game choice and I wonder who thought of putting this on that list.

Voted Meh, because while it's a good work, it doesn't look really like a TAS. I was expecting better than that.

I'm sorry but I couldn't get through it either. It does look like you put a lot of effort in to it but somehow it isn't all that interesting to watch. I voted No. Best of luck on your next TAS, A.C. ******

Voting no, movie only mildly seemed like a TAS to me and I didn't find it very entertaining or a good example of a play around.
I am a figment of my imagination.

I've seen this movie and it seemed not very good, I would like to do a movie, but in challenges node or story mode, which is what I like more. No votes for this movie. Good luck next time
