How about a new award: "The most impressive improvement of an existing TAS." (And "most impressive" doesn't necessarily mean "largest".)

While I dislike this idea (face it, MegaMan 1 has sealed this and every other award) However, I like the suggestion, as it makes me think of the contra-award, best new TAS, awarded to the TAS that has no previous run. Best Original TAS?

I vote "yes," as I believe those significant improvements should be especially recognized. It takes a certain mix of both skills and boldness to tackle a pre-existing record, and a great set of traits altogether to actually get the job done, and do it well.

Maybe have both? Although, thinking about it, I fear that these would probably often just go to TASes getting other awards anyways, so they might not add that much overall...

I have to say I dislike this idea. Think about how hard this is to define and just how many possible nominees there are. With any given "X Run of the Y" and "Z Runner of the A", you only have a finite number of contestants. Here, we can get a ton of different nominations for one and the same run, frequently overlapping or being otherwise hard to define. A better idea, as previously stated, would be "Best Original Run", and perhaps a counterpart like "Most Stunning Improvement to an Existing Run", though the latter might just be a question of numbers.

I disagree with such a new category because it's likely that any game that wins this will already get another award anyway.

This could perhaps add incentive for people to make TASes of new games which haven't been tased before.

Isn't that what I suggested in my original post?
