His health amount is saveable.. like if you drop him to 9/10 health, leave arena, save game.. come back later, he's still 9/10.

Doesn't he autoheal if you take too long to return?

So, somebody finally managed to single-credit Arrange A Hibachi with only one life lost. There's some more awesome stuff at the end of the video. :D

I'll see your Hibachi Arrange A one-death clear and raise you a no-miss, no-bomb clear. (Actual Hibachi fight starts at 3:37)

Haha, that's amazing! Same player I guess? Somewhat disturbing that he barely needs to dodge anything at all.

Actually, I think they're different players. Also, I bet when CAVE sees that video, yet another iteration of DDP will come out, since CAVE can't stand to see their HIBACHI boss get owned like that. I'm guessing a decrease in invincibility time, and a longer time to charge the hyper gauge. And more bullets.

Sadly Cave doesn't care much about their Arrange modes. Except DFK Arrange B, which has a major scoring bug to begin with, not a single one of them was patched and/or rebalanced upon expert players breaking them wide open. The only recent arranged mode that hasn't suffered such a fate is Ketsui X, which is actually brilliant (like the main game). Mushihimesama Futari Arrange was a severely dumbed-down version of GigaWing with a continuously active shield, DOJ BL is "get hyper, cancel all bullets, repeat", Espgaluda II is "enter Overdrive mode, milk bosses for 15 minutes each", DeathSmiles II makes no challenge because you can cancel pretty much everything, same with Guwange. I'm hoping the DFK BL Arrange ("Ketsupachi") will be worth it. At least this time I'm definitely going to wait until the price drops a bit. I'm betting the final boss is Doom, though, not Hibachi. And yes, more bullets. :)

It can't be fun to play that.

Apparently this boss is only there for those who find it fun, simply because the rest will never even meet the requirements to fight it in the first place.

The problem I have with these videos is that they're so ridiculously hard that even the most skilled of players resorts to bombspam and dies shortly after running out of those bombs. It makes it difficult to appreciate the boss's bullet patterns because they keep getting wiped clear by explosions. It'd also be nice to see how the patterns are "meant" to be solved -- surely there is a way to pass the pattern without ever using a bomb, yes?

In some cases, yes. This one, I'm not sure. It seems that both that and DFK Arrange A Hibachi featured earlier in the thread are designed around the fact that you can erase bullets in situations when you get cornered badly. I don't particularly appreciate this (I'd rather have an easier pattern designed around the fact that you can't bomb or erase bullets otherwise); for that reason I regard Mushihimesama Futari Ultra TLB patterns a lot higher, since pretty much all of them are solvable (and, aside from the last one, have been solved quite efficiently) without temp invincibility from bombs.

The problem I have with that genre is that observers who have never played the game get a false representation of the difficulty (tiny hitboxes) and even of the game's objective. It's not to actually dodge the bullets, but just to find a movement pattern that will make you survive the bullet pattern and sticking to it. To find out how hard that is, you have to actually have played the game. It's impossible to know just from watching these videos.

I have played these games (well, I have them on the X360 actually, and most of them are amazing fun), and for the most part it's really about as hard as it looks. You have to be extremely concentrated, have a flawless hand-eye coordination and a sense of hitbox to keep yourself in line with the boss and dodge several layers of projectiles on top of each other at the same time. Actually reading the pattern is only half the trouble; in case with Hibachi dodging it is far more difficult.

What I really want to see is the last boss of Mushihimesama Ultra beaten without a bomb. All of these Dodonpachi patterns are complex and ridiculous, but Mushihimesama Ultra's final is still, to me, the granddaddy of stupid bullet hell attacks.

Does F-Zero GX Story mode count as a boss?
