Hello people. Some people have said (for example in best TAS of the year) that they would have liked to choose two or more runs. Also, some polls had to be reset with only the two/three top choices since there were so many options. Plenty of research has been done on different voting systems. One which appears to fix both the problems above is Approval voting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Approval_voting This would require changing the poll from radio buttons (only one choice) to check boxes (multiple choice). Not sure how hardcoded that is in the forum engine...

I don't like approval voting as it's too open to tactical voting. I would like more emphasis on votes kept hidden until the end of the alloted time period.

This seems appropriate for tasvideos though :)
I make a comic with no image files and you should read it. While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. -Eugene Debs

Any voting system is open to tactical voting if the votes so far are shown. It's not something special with approval voting.

I was going to say "the more convoluted the voting system becomes, the more redundant it will become with the rating system." But that would fail to take into account that the only categories for rating are entertainment and tech... so maybe we should add humor, glitchiness, etc to the rating system, and then instead of the yearly voting (which is going to be biased in various ways) we could have a thread full of graphs using the stats collected over the year.

I say keep the rating system and the votes seperate. Else, I'd just give very low ratings to the movies that I don't want to win an award, and thus my votes would count more than those of the users who rate them honestly. If many users followed my bad example, the overall rating of good moves would decrease, and TASVideos would descend into chaos! >.>

I support this, and the notion that votes should be hidden until the end. There was a precedent last year when Crusader of Centy was everyone's #2 choice and, after enough poll resets, it actually proved itself able to win the award. With approval voting it would have won right off the bat without poll resets. (That's not to mention that poll resets often have ambiguously defined highpass…)

I am thinking about implementing approval voting - this could easily be done by the time the polls open at the end of the week. This would be done by allowing voters the option of selecting several nominees instead of just one - the winner would be the nominee with the most votes, i.e. liked by the largest proportion of voters. Thoughts?

Approval voting is a lot better than the alternative.

I think a better question would be: is there anybody against approval voting, and why?

My only objection is that I'd prefer a system like range voting, but in vote for one vs vote for any number the clear winner is the latter.

As nerdy and prone to strategic voting as possible please!
